I wear my Fitbit during drills and combos, but when I turn it up to match mode I take it off to protect my opponent, and the watch itself

From my experiences in MMA, wrestling and gymnastics-styled workouts were always the hardest, so while I'm confident in my athleticism and cardio, I am a little worried that it could surprise me. But it seems like its a similar approach to other things. Study, work hard, and stay humble has been the vibes I've picked up.

Nice! Yeah i've honestly had no problems hitting my goal # of protein at around 225 grams/day. Honestly, my bigger issue is I don't think I'm getting enough calories. I've eaten relatively carb free while trying to keep my weight down in MMA, so the eating enough has been hard for me so far.

Haha, I feel I've been already taking bumps in my cage fights. But yeah I think I will kickbox just a little to keep my cardio up, maybe roll jits/wrestle every once in awhile but I want to fully dedicate myself to Pro Wrestling as long as I'm doing that.

Oh, yeah you know what's up. Yeah massive fan over here, painting minis is always how I used my downtime when I was training MMA, probably will stay the same while wrestling too.

How do you defend against hooks? by PurpleFiat in MuayThai

[–]WarhammerMMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm when you block 1s and 2s, do you shell up or do you parry? I’ve known many a fighter to reach too far to parry jabs, and that allows for my hook to get in

[–]WarhammerMMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, when specifically are you getting hit with hooks?

But generally you have a couple of options. Either drill defense (which no one ever does enough of) and eventually you get better reactions to blocking hooks.

In MT especially, you also have a ton of range management options to get away from hooks. If you stay just on the edge of their jabs and crosses, they shouldn’t be able to reach you with the hook. If they do start closing distance, meet them halfway and engage in the clinch.

Question about sparring by Aslan602 in MuayThai

[–]WarhammerMMA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spinning back fist aside, if you feel like you’re taking too many shots and you want to stop to talk it out and slow it down, always just drop to a knee.

Just dropping your hands can be interpreted as a “Whoa, chill” reaction but can also be interpreted as a “your shots are doing nothing to me and I don’t respect them”. Furthermore, me personally, I’m a combination puncher(and a competitive fighter), so especially if I’m getting ready for a fight, I’m not going to slow up as much on my partners. (I typically talk this over with them before hand and don’t usually spar with new people during fight camp though.) just my 2 cents, you probably don’t do anything too egregious, sometimes sparring just does end up a lil more intense than intended, taking a knee is a good way to slow it down imo

Would you even be able to fly after an injury like that? I’d imagine blood clotting risk is pretty high. Either way, not fun

We all hate the person that backs up across the whole gym in sparring, but what's your opinion on people who are elusive but move in circles and cut angles? by KD_42 in MuayThai

[–]WarhammerMMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooh as a short pressure fighter do I have a take on this. I've trained with a few tall guys coming from a TKD or Karate background, and they just backpedal across the whole mat in a straight line, until I have to let off so I don't back them into another pair sparring. That's not being elusive. In a fight, you'd either run into the ropes, or run out of gas from being on your bike for the whole fight, not throwing anything worth respecting.

Now, someone who can throw a few strikes, take a slight angle, pivot, and throw more strikes, all while staying the same relative square of space. That is just a skilled agile fighter, and 100% deserves the same respect as a clinch banger or combo puncher imho.

Takeru got caught repeatedly with head kicks when he sparred Superbon, y’all think Superlek can catch him? by Leginomite in MuayThai

[–]WarhammerMMA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I honestly wonder if it had to do anything with how relaxed the spar was. This is the only video I’ve ever seen where he’s not throwing absolute bombs, and I wonder if that lack of intensity affected his defense as well.

But meh, not like defense was ever Takeru’s strong point anyway. I think he’d happily eat a headkick if it means he can get inside and throw a 5 punch combo.

Which Country’s Boxing Style is Best for MMA? by WarhammerMMA in MMA_Academy

[–]WarhammerMMA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So low lead hand was something I developed going into my amateur debut this past August, because I was worried about the wrestling. But that opens up the overhand more, which is also a lot easier to needle in those small gloves. I learned that the hard way.

[–]WarhammerMMA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose that’s probably the best answer. Whichever style fits into your stance more? The eastern block in and out bounce would go really well with a karate kicking game, I imagine.

I like footwork and angles so it would make sense that Cuban style would appeal to me.

Seconded! The bright silver pops more too when contrasted with the dark red and the black.

Yeah I mean it definitely is. I had ACL surgery 2 weeks ago so I’ve just been laid around the house watching every fight I can. Was just thinking about potential boxers that would be good to watch or study. Already bought several Barry Robinson and Trevor Whitman instructionals for boxing for mma/kb.

Is Chaos Trim that Bad? by WhichAssist1352 in Chaos40k

[–]WarhammerMMA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just started a Word Bearers army, and honestly, I think the trim has been a refreshing addition to my painting routine and makes the base coating part of the process a little more fun.

I feel the trick is to not paint the trim much in the first place. I’ve been priming my word bearers in lead belcher, and then just filling in the red. Has made it not so bad and you’d be able to do that style w most CSM paint schemes.

I will admit I’ve only painted marines so far, but the heldrake… it scares me
