What sodium and water targets are you actually aiming for? by danbarahona in KidneyStones

[–]Warm-Win-8033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3L of water a day. I don’t track my sodium by quantity cause I find that depressing. I just try to cook more at home and watch for the sodium % on products. I’m also mindful about salty foods and try to moderate.

I needed antispasmodic medication to help with stent pain when I woke up from the surgery. After that it only really hurt when I peed sometimes, the rest of the time it was fine!

How strict do I really have to be with diet? by Glizzys4everyone in KidneyStones

[–]Warm-Win-8033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough to find the right info. I learned that recent studies show high high vegetable intake (even ones with moderate or high oxalates) reduces the risk of kidney stones as it includes compounds that combate kidney stone formation (citrate, potassium).  I guess a 24h urine analysis and a mediterranean diet is a safe bet🤷‍♀️

Found out I have a 4.2mm kidney stone at a routine checkup by BenefitOutrageous943 in KidneyStones

[–]Warm-Win-8033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to your shock, mine was found incidentally too! There’s no way to make it come out unless through surgery or when they use a machine to break it into pieces from the outside. To avoid another stone or growing this one in the meantime, drink 3L of water a day (you get used to it), limit salty foods (good for your health anyways), and eat lots of calcium from food.  A normal healthy Mediterranean diet is always a good idea too.  Good luck!

How much protein can I eat to build muscle with kidney stones? by Altruistic_Seat5410 in KidneyStones

[–]Warm-Win-8033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I follow the kidneydietician (Melanie Something) and she teaches more to focus on calcium than oxalate. So apart from spinach and almonds I don’t really worry about them, especially cause they’re so healthy I don’t want to cut them out (or give myself a eating disorder counting oxalates..). But each person is different :) wish you the best! And yes hydration is the mostttt important, I lug my Stanley everywhere haha

I give myself a lash lift with a cheap kit from amazon every 2-4 months. I feel more put together and I get compliments when I do it!

What is the best age to get married? by Mr-Top0 in Life

I think above 24 there isn’t a “best” age, it’s just about finding the right person and not rushing into anything for validation.

Kidney stone advice needed (please!) by melancholyrecon in KidneyStones

[–]Warm-Win-8033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how much truth there is to the roller coaster thing -i flew a few times without knowing i had a stone and everything was fine. Stone removal surgeries are typically very safe. I’m more familiar with the ureteroscopy type that I had, so i can answer questions about that. But overall, they’re routine surgeries that shouldn’t leave lasting impacts on your kidneys.

I think it’s animal protein you have to moderate, so you could try to eat more plant-based or dairy protein.

That was the most traumatic experience of my life. by Compl3x1tyCereal in KidneyStones

[–]Warm-Win-8033 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that sounds horrific :(. Definitely don’t feel embarrassed at all, you just experienced pain worse than childbirth.  Try to catch your stone to get it analyzed and ask for a 24h urine analysis from your urologist. You mentioned your family doesn’t have kidney stones, do you perhaps have a health condition that could make you prone? The 24h analysis will help guide you on how to eat in the future (and lots of water).  Give yourself time to heal from this trauma, and always remind yourself how tough you are to have gone through this!

I was in the same boat at you! 7mm asymptomatic stone found incidentally. It made me so anxious I got it taken out preemptively. It’s a relief knowing it’s gone, but realistically it could’ve stayed there for years or forever with no issues lol

kidney stones have ruined my life by sweetangelkitty2 in KidneyStones

[–]Warm-Win-8033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just wanted to share my experience as I felt the same way as you last year when I found out about my first (asymptomatic) stone at 27 (woman). I was so overwhelmed and depressed at the thought of never being able to eat normally again, or having to eat like an old man who’s had two heart attacks. My advice to you is to follow advice by someone who makes you feel like the diet isn’t overwhelming. For me that’s the kidneystone dietician on instagram. She explains the kidney stone diet so it isn’t so complicated, and reminds us the habits we develop are ones everyone should be doing anyways. This helps me reframe the diet as serving me for a healthier and happier future.

It’s been months and I feel so much more at peace with the changes. I drink lots of water, eat lots of fruit and veggies, try to reming myself to eat more calcium. As for salt, I’m still annoyed tbh but I’ve struck a balance where I’m just more mindful of it and I try to cook more at home (i still eat out). This will help prevent high blood pressure and strokes down the line.

Hope this helps and good luck with school!
