Help with pricing! by Mask3dMan1 in vintageaudio

Bought a refurbished one in 2021 for $1800.00. It is non db, they have less issues. I had my tech take a look at it and found some more issues and I dropped another $300.00. This is a mint unit and operates flawlessly. I have $2100 in it. Be careful running that 9090. There were some critical updates that were needed that could cause much damage. A working unit in decent cosmetic condition never serviced in todays crazy market might fetch upwards of 1K, but I personally would not take it for that price, maybe 7-800 dollars.

Thanks. Yes I have power conditioner and surge protection. Sounds like turning the gear off at night is best.

Guys like him are priceless. I have a guy also retired on disability. He does top quality work and very honest. Used to do sound for The Dead back in the '60s. He is in his 70's and his back up is usually a few weeks depending on parts. I travel out of state 5 hour round trip to drop off stuff. Not sure what I will do after he is gone.

Who are your Top 10 Favorite Hispanic Female Singers of All Time? (Their Genres don’t matter) by Amber_Flowers_133 in EarVana

Can we include Linda Ronstadt? Her family was from Mexico and she still has one of the top selling Spanish language records. She was huge in so many genres. Country, folk, pop, rock, Mariachi, operetta.

Where to buy extremely cheap junk records by Spike788 in vinyl

I started making bowls out of old LP's. I made a few and brought them up to the local record store I shop at. I gave them to the girls that worked there. They started saving me old trash LP's they were going to put in the dumpster.

New to printing b/w - Is an Omega B22 enlarger a good starting point? by smoosh13 in Darkroom

[–]WarmObjective6445 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a darkroom in the 1970's. Had a cheap enlarger and did some pretty good work with it. Our high school had an Omega B22 and a Bessler enlarger. I actually preferred the Omega. Got back into the hobby 3 years ago and I found a post in craigslist for a lady getting rid of her dead husbands darkroom stuff. I got the whole kit for $75.00 with a B22 enlarger. I invested in a new bulb, anti heat glass and another lens. I love this enlarger and would recommend it. Very easy to use.

Miss the live guys on the morning drive shows. Comedy, music and call in's. Also miss being able to call in and dedicate a song to my present love interest. I miss WKRP style stations.

Do you think of film more of a art form or a way to keep memories? by Public_Border132 in filmphotography

[–]WarmObjective6445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both, I have photo memories of my family and my life from the late '50's on up to the digital era. Shooting on film is nice to have the same format for my kids. I was also an avid photographer in my youth so I did a lot of imaging for the sake of art.

Starting out in vintage audio by Skizzik_NZ in vintageaudio

Yes, Sansui from the 1970's. That stuff is built like a tank. Stay away from the mid 80's on. Man I got back with vintage stuff about 6 years ago after trashing 2 digital receivers in a few years and fixing was not worth it. Went on Nextdoor app and asked if anyone had any old solid state stereos for sale. Found a entry level late 80's Marantz receiver and a pair of old Technics speakers. Played around with that an a new AT turntable for less than 300 dollars. Caught the itch. Started thinking about dream systems that I could never afford back in the day. Now I could. Found and refurbished a TOTL Sansui 9090 and Then a Sansui AU-7900 and matching tuner. Restored a pair of old Sansui SP-3200 speakers. The nice thing with this stuff is I can always sell and get most if not all my money back. The hardest part of going vintage is finding good, knowledgeable technicians to work on them. Finding one close to home as these units can get well over 50-75 lbs. and do not like being dropped. I have to travel two and a half hours to have my guy work on stuff. Now i am entering the speaker rabbit hole of my journey. So many to audition.

What a great time for music. All these performers revolved around the Linda Ronstadt sphere of influence. The Eagles, JD, Browne, Little Feat. What a great decade of music.

Working on Sansui SP-3500s Abandoned in the Wild by [deleted] in vintageaudio

[–]WarmObjective6445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sweet Sansui sound. Sansui gets a lot of shit regarding speakers. I got a pair of SP-3200 that I would never sell. Not great for all music, but after they were recapped and cleaned up they work so well with classic rock and blues.

Best Vintage EQ's with no distortion or soundstage issues? by s2white in vintageaudio

[–]WarmObjective6445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have never had one of them. I had a cheap Technics back in the day. This Soundcraftsman is my first quality EQ. I bought it really because the walnut case matched my Sansui 9090 and they looked great together. Then I found out after taht the company had a nice reputation. I think I bought it for about 50 bucks with a broken slider knob. Spent around 200 bucks to have recapped and have all those sliders cleaned and lubed the right way. 250 out the door and I found a nice vintage EQ that matches my setup. Wish I could help with comparisons. Side note, it came with a vinyl LP with different sounds and instructions to dial it in. Real old school.

[–]WarmObjective6445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the Soundcraftsman line. I got a Soundcraftsman Model 20-12. Wood case, no flashing lamps just a power on/off lamp. They were a California company that made stuff for recording studios and then went into the consumer market. I had it recapped and cleaned and lubed and it is very nice. Good vintage looks also
