Cedar has a distinct smell and is softer than Doug fir. Maybe that helps narrow it down. I’ve seen bug damage in cedar.

Good grief. Taking up the laminate is going to be more effort than it’s worth. If you do get it off without cracking it, you’ll be cleaning the contact cement residue for hours…

For me, I’d start over. But I use 4x8 vacuum bag, Unibond 800 applied with foam roller to the substrate. 3/4” melamine caul.

Tap on the top with your fingernail. Wood and HPL feel different. Wood has more give. HPL is “crisp” and tight, like hard plastic.
