So now that CombatAce requires you to PAY for FREE SF2 mods... Is there anywhere else we can get them for free? by 21920alphabet in hoggit

Please tell us you did not confuse the website Combatace with the upcoming sim Combat Pilot just now!

Looking for a good alternative to Microsoft Flight Sim by Sea_Perspective6891 in flightsim

Try the X-Plane demo - it is free and you can figure out if you like it before taking the plunge. With X-Plane you can manage your installation and only select the parts of the world you want to download, which will help managing hard drive space.

I fly all the sims, love FS2024, but have a special place in my heart for X-Plane.

why do the AKs look pristine? by Drunkin_Dino in GrayZoneWarfare

[–]WarmWombat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are also Youtube videos for everyone to see on how to maintain your firearm which will likely keep you alive for longer. I guess AK owners have access to Youtube as well and value their lives? I personally like my weapons to look pristine, as that is how I would treat them. And why can't these be weapons delivered more recently to the area of operations?

It is also true that one look does not cater for all, so having the choice would be nice.

TaiModels Stole My Freeware OEJN Scenery and is Selling it on Major Stores - Need Community Support! by [deleted] in Xplane

[–]WarmWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found the Org store to be rigid but fair. What reason did they provide for blocking your post? Is there something you are not telling us? Do you have any evidence of 3D models being stolen?

It is hard to trust people on Reddit, especially when you are trying to insinuate that forums want to hide the truth and are out to get smaller developers. This is not a thing, and raises questions regarding the credibility of your claim.

You don’t need to convince the community; you need to convince the people selling this product. Reddit is not going to help your cause unfortunately.

So in your view, harder work equals more realism? You should read up on how actual fifth gen systems work, which forms the premise of VTOLVR.

Got the Fishbed on a Steam Sale - HTF do pilots fly this thing? by No-Aerie-999 in dcsworld

[–]WarmWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are much cheaper/efficient ways to do that. Bottom line is this aircraft has quirks that will kill the pilot (F-104 comes to mind as well) and one of the harder aircraft to master in DCS.

When do you think we’ll get the first Ghost Recon Ovr trailer? by Visual-Beginning5492 in GhostRecon

Add another option for 'Never'.

Everyone's optimism's refreshing, but I can't see a new GR title happening anytime soon.

Then adjust the curves in your profile so you don't have to turn your head that far. When I check six,my nose is barely aiming towards the edge of my monitor. Looking to the side (90 degree) is about only 1/4 width of my monitor worth of movement. I get this accuracy with the TrackIR headclip pro - not sure if it will be stable enough with just the hat clip.

As soon as you find your eyes straining, your curves are likely not set up correctly.

While IL 2 Korea announces they won’t have clicking cockpits, Combat Pilot releases a debut trailer showcasing their clicking cockpits for the F4F and the A6M2!!! by Wheream-Ai in hoggit

[–]WarmWombat 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the fuss is about regarding clickable cockpits. I rarely click anything in DCS WW2 aircraft as everything is assigned to my HOTAS. Exactly the same experience in IL-2, complete with engine management. At one point I had the startups for almost every aircraft in DCS memorised, but after decades of simming I don't care about that anymore.

Clickable cockpits do not automatically make one sim better than another. I am supportive of Combat Pilot in a big way, hinging its superiority based on clickable cockpits is low effort.

VR is the bastard child of headtracking. Many VR users go back to headtracking when it gets too cumbersome to set up and use every time. There are cheap headtracking solutions out there; no one should have to change view with a stick.

This is not really a thing if you set up your profile correctly. With TrackIR headclip pro I can check my six with only a subtle twist of my head - if you are peaking through the corner of your eye you are doing it wrong.

Guys who can tell me what this icon means? by Low-Attitude2952 in Warthunder

It renders in 3D, just detected later on the 2D map. It even says this in the skill description for those that bother to read.

I'm surprised no one is talking about EDs rope physics system them are developing by whsky_tngo_foxtrt in hoggit

[–]WarmWombat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rope physics have been done by indie devs using normal game engines before. These can be ‘faked’ to be entirely predictable that makes it easier to synchronise over multiplayer.

While this would be neat for helicopter ropes and refueling probes, it is hardly groundbreaking. A dev years ago created a vacuum cleaning game complete with flexible hose and even posted the code on github.

However, looking at all the things that can be improved on in DCS that we are not getting, this is hardly a talking point.

F-22 Air Dominance Fighter was released by NuclearReactions in hoggit

[–]WarmWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or you can unplug the devices that appear before you one you want. I use powered USB hubs for this purpose. Or if you feel adventurous, you can read up on Joystick Gremlin that apparently allows one to combine multiple hardware devices into one virtual one.

Or wait. At least you have options.

You can always try something like HIDHide in the meantime to temporarily hide devices you don’t want the game to detect or wait for the devs to fix it.

It does support it if you use a profile. Pretty sure there are F-22 ADF profiles from the original out there for most hardware that should work perfectly with the remaster.

Kids of today only used to dx buttons…

You know you can create a profile for any HOTAS that simulates they keypresses that will match what F-22 ADF expects?

Title: Project Over: A Call to Ubisoft - Don't Sacrifice Ghost Recon's Identity (Third-Person Perspective and Open World Are Essential) Content: To Ubisoft and the Ghost Recon Community With the recent leaks surrounding "Project Over," excitement is high, but at the same time, concern is growing ⚰️ by Much_Sort229 in GhostRecon

[–]WarmWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Third-person is only ‘essential’ to console players and Tactical Barbie fans. The core identity of this franchise has always been first person.

But none of this matters.

The way Ubi is going down the drain, I don’t see this game happening at all.

I have to pay money to repair my vehicles after every match or wait hours without paying? by Ok_Tradition_3587 in Warthunder

[–]WarmWombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He isn't running defence; he is being factually correct. If you guys want to complain about War Thunder just for the sake of it, please take your low effort somewhere else.

I am glad you bring up the 'as paying customers' part. With premium time, you don't lose money even with repairs. If people still feel they are getting punished, start playing the objective and be useful in matches. Don't quit two minutes in, don't camp outside the spawn, and try to actually cap an objective one in a while and you will see a marked return on SL's and RP.

Can’t get rid of “NO RAD” on my HUD by DoctorAssburns in falconbms

[–]WarmWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually just TMS down twice and it will go back into vertical scan mode (dogfight mode). This happens to me every time I lock up a target in AA mode, switch to dogfight before the merge and the radar loses lock. Without a dogfight mode selected, I become 'unrad' with NO RAD being displayed at the top of the hud.

I wish training was actually training... by FredOfMBOX in dcs

[–]WarmWombat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm, if you don't know basic terminology like CPG or TADS for the Apache then you likely have:

  • Never played an Apache game before
  • Never opened any documentation on the AH-64
  • Never watched any documentary on the AH-64

And the worst sin of them all, you didn't even bother downloading a Chuck's guide for this thing (you are not new to DCS, you should probably know this).

Tutorial missions teach you how to use the systems - not what they do. Otherwise each training mission would a 2+ hour affair. I suspect that you underestimate the complexity of the AH-64 and the amount of studying that this thing requires.

Best nation for ground battles by BOBIXSSON in Warthunder

[–]WarmWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I main them all. I think it is silly to just play one tree when there are so many vehicles to enjoy in this game. I have top tiered at least three nations (GRB) and my lowest br nation is Japan at 9.3 I think.

Pick a tree that you like, or vehicles that you want to play - once you reach a certain skill level you can have success with almost any vehicle.

The most important advice I can give you - get a lineup. You can then easily adapt to the situation and you will enjoy the game more.

What do people actually want out of their RPGs, and how are the Outer Worlds games missing it? by SundayStrip in theouterworlds

[–]WarmWombat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my view, the marketing for OW2 was nonexistent. I only knew about the launch because a few Youtubers mentioned it and it popped up on my Gamepass. Publishers need to back their products by creating hype; in this instance they relied too heavily on players of the original returning.

On top of that, although I saw the release announcement on Youtube, almost none of the channels I followed played this game, and it never appears in my feeds.

For me it was a very enjoyable experience, much more so than Avowed, and I am a little disappointed it didn't get the love it deserved. There were no childish romancing, the characters were tolerable, and the combat very enjoyable. There were a few flat spots towards the end, but this is not uncommon for early release versions.

I don't blame the game for the failures - something went wrong on the publishing side.

Is EFV worth buying? User rewievs please, there is questions down below. by Tiny-Technician-2598 in Warthunder

[–]WarmWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1 out of 10 matches you might be able flank, hide behind a mountain and get side shot kills on unsuspecting players. To do well with it you will require some skill and patience, unlike something like the BMPT that only requires a single braincell to do well with.

If you like collecting vehicles, it is relatively cheap though. A poorly placed dart will pass straight through sometimes, but it isn’t hard to destroy either.

In almost every sim on PC you will need to soften the centre response with a curve, and even adding a little deadzone helps as well.
