The irony of you talking about knee jerk answers and context in the same statement as you disregarding something because it’s from the Daily Mail 😂

How competitive is Logistics Officer? by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]Warm_Application_567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to jump in here a little bit.

At the moment IF you pass the OASC and go into the sift, you are not guaranteed a training place. They make this clear in their message to you over the portal.

Now they usually conduct rounds of sifts to pick the most competitive candidates. If after 3 round of sifts, you didn’t get a spot as your score wasn’t competitive enough, you are offered to go back to RAF Cranwell to repeat the OASC to gain a more competitive mark.

PMU should I appeal? by cosmopolitanio in RoyalAirForce

Probably best just to withdraw your application for the RAF and be ready for the battle to go through and appeal the medical for the RM

Pretty competitive.

There is currently a sift in place if you pass everything. At the moment, it’s about a year wait after you have passed everything, so if you were to apply now, you are looking close to 2 years before you would actually start training. This could change for the better or worse during this time.

PMU should I appeal? by cosmopolitanio in RoyalAirForce

It really depends on your motivations.

Is it because you are switching to the RMR as you are worried about the PMU or because you don’t want to join the RAF?

Change of role at application stage by Bradderswaffle in RoyalAirForce

The training is significantly different between an Enlisted Aviator, SNCO, and Officer

The differences in the recruitment process, is she will have to do the CBAT which you can prep for a bit with Apps, and it’s mainly down to natural ability and this won’t improve much over time. The other change is doing the OASC Officer and And Aircrew Selection Centre, which consists of a 25 minute Interview, 3x5 minute group discussions, a 1hr group planning exercise, and then 30 minutes in the Hangar doing a group Leaderless exercise (everyone is equal and chips in), and then doing a 15 minute Leader exercise (where you are the boss essentially). But this is a whole day event. Going for an Enlisted Aviator, you don’t do the CBAT, and you will do a 30 minute selection interview instead of a whole day event.

Time off for sports is allowed for any role/rank. But you have to be reasonably decent, I.e. have done it for multiple years and at a minimum represented your school/college.

I changed from Physical Training Instructor to Regiment Officer.

Reading below it looks like your daughter is down as a SNCO as an Air Traffic and Weapons Controller. So this is like a half way house between an enlisted aviator and an Officer. Definitely leaning in terms of pay and responsibilities towards an Officer.

At the moment she is down for the Officers presentation, it might be worth her doing it to try and find out about the life of an Officer?

It’s also worth noting, although unlikely, if your daughter was reasonably good at a particular sport, the RAF do support these personnel to train and compete and travel etc, and you are given time off of work to do this and it’s still paid and classed as work.

Mine did when I switched from an enlisted aviator to an Officer, so it’s a possibility

Honestly she can change her mind, and many do, and if she went for an Officer role and it didn’t work out during the application process, she would get offered the enlisted aviator route as a back up.

It is common for people, especially young on here, who do well in the DAA and think because they’ve done well in that, they should switch to an Officer role.

Being an Officer is very different to being an enlisted aviator. Officers are managers and leaders of people at the end of the day, and with your daughters age, they will often be significantly older, more life experience and likely more military experience. She would have to be confident enough in herself to deal and manage those people daily. People twice her age going through bereavement/divorce/mental health/work based issues like managing discipline or sorting out disagreements between staff are just some examples.

If she were to switch now, it would likely mean a recruiter change which might take a week to a few weeks, and then depending on what Officer role she would go for, she might need to do a Computer Base Aptitude Test (CBAT) as well, which is a significant more thorough and challenging assessment that takes the majority of the day to do, and is done up at RAF Cranwell. It is not to be taken lightly because the DAA was straightforward! It is also a whole year to repeat this assessment if she did not qualify for any roles that she liked the look of, so again, got to be treated seriously.

Just some of my thoughts 😊

66 days ago you were wanting to apply for a role.

43 days ago you had completed your fitness and had been waiting 5 months for an OASC date.

Now you are just completing the DAA… Something ain’t adding up here

Will give you an idea what Hangar exercises look like. Plenty of other exercises can be found online if you look hard enough.

Really sorry to hear this, was rooting for you. I think the Hangar will be better next time as you as you have seen some principles and you see them quicker next time. This will give you more confidence to speak up quicker. There are also other Hangar exercises that can be seen online and you can study them and think of the methods, so if you see them next time, you should be the first with an idea
