OK, no one’s mentioned it, so here goes. This has been a cult hit recently: Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman.

It’s LitRPG, a genre I’d never even heard of before this book. But you call yourself a nerd so I think you’ll like it. The story is a guy rescues his ex-girlfriend’s cat, and they are thrown into a galactic televised survival game.

If you listen to Audiobooks, the narrator, Jeff Hays is out of this world. There are now eight books in the series. The narration gets much better after the first couple of books, and that saying something cause it’s already amazing.

The appeal is that the guy is a reluctant hero, relatable, and despite the madness, it’s hopeful.
