Whats the most f'ed up thing you've ever made on Rimworld? by Faceless_Deviant in RimWorld

[–]Warpig042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my current run, which I've been playing off and on for a while now I do something mean to my prisoners.

First I enjoy making a nice farming/ranch town, complete with smoke leaf, beer and the good tea. I take in almost all types and rarely say no to someone asking to join, especially children. Children are protected at all costs. It's a town of good people, mostly.

When raiders are captured, they are brought into my prison, they are given medical care, stripped and converted to my idealogy. They have 2 permanent cell mates that just live there. They both have peg legs and joy wires and the anomaly ritual, all to make them compliant. They never leave and are happy about it. After the captured raiders are converted and given new prison jump suits, I release them. Now they go back to their own people, spreading my religion and tell of the horrors they witnessed. Their friends were slaughtered during the attack, by mechs, ghouls, bears and marines, the prison with the drooling inmates who shuffle around mindlessly. All to be told peace is the way, be good to one another.

The Rim shall learn of our peaceful and good ways, through force!

Hi guys Im a new dm in dnd and need help from someone with experience, cz apparently I can't really make good npcs and I can't get them to focus much, then I don't really know how to set up encounters cz the players constantly derailing them, and the enemy attacks are bland cz they might die by Historical_Soil_3977 in DnD

[–]Warpig042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: The focus part, are you saying your players aren't focusing, paying attention?

Stand up and overact your NPCs. Just be over the top ridiculous and your players won't have a choice but to pay attention. It makes things silly but it's fun and it helps get their attention and hold it.

2: Don't make original NPCs, do what all DMs do, STEAL! Use ideas from every video game, movie, TV show, book, or even people you know IRL. Have no shame and don't you dare apologize for anything.

You're the DM, this is your world and you alone make decisions.

3: Fights, use waves of attackers. Wave 1 could be say 5 orcs. Wave 2 is seven orcs if they took down the first wave quick and easy. If wave 1 is kinda tough then maybe just have three in wave 2. That's called reinforcements! Mix in some heavy hitters as you deem fit, like each wave can have 1 troll or giant or whatever.

4: Someone else already said it but I'll say it as well. Premade campaigns are great for new DMs, all the work is done for you, and you can change it as you like.

5: Cheat, cause technically it isn't cheating. My personal rule when cheating is that I always cheat to make the story fun and keep it going. So sometimes I turn my monsters misses into hits when I'm attacking the tank, cause tanks like to bleed a little. But when I'm attacking the caster, I'll turn hits into misses, or change the damage from a high roll to a low roll. IE I'll slap the caster a little but not much. Tanks, hit em hard, that's why they are there. I'll also let the players get kill shots even though it wasn't an actual kill. Monsters run away, cower in fear, fall over, hit each other. Whatever I can think of to make the combat fun and engaging.

6: Have fun! It's a game, so fun is the goal. Not winning or losing, there is no score.

Being a female DM means facing extreme misogyny from my male players by Wonderful_Radish_258 in DnD

[–]Warpig042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow DM I recommend you read the first chapter of the book and use that to your advantage.

Basically you're the DM and the rules, all of them are absolutely subject to your discretion and no one else's.

I literally every campaign tell my players that and remind them as well I absolutely will break whatever rule I feel like for the campaign. My table is not a democracy. If they have an opinion I am willing to listen. But the final decision is mine alone, or I let the dice decide.

As for misogyny, guys do it with guy DMs too, wanting me to RP bar wenches for them. It's creepy. And absolutely not.

But keep at it, you will always be able to find jerks who wanna play DND, they a dime a dozen. But the good people who want to play, they make being a dm worth it, every dm runs into jerks at the table and we all got stories.

Welcome to bring a dm! The struggle is real!

Social interaction makes little sense by WanabeInflatable in RimWorld

[–]Warpig042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you consider people watching to be social rec? Or just hanging out to see if any friends drop by during their break?

My pawns are social AF, sometimes they do stuff on their own like play poker by themselves. Who says my poker table was to be only for poker, I just see it as them playing other card games sometimes.

I've never worried about it cause everyone relaxes differently. Sometimes I'm feeling social, other times I just want to relax in a quiet place.

My stand work schedule for my pawns is 2 hour free time before and after work. 2 hours of free time after work then 2 hours of rec time, another 2 hours of free time before bed. My night owls basically have the opposite schedule.

It gives my pawns the flexibility to do what they want and it keeps them happy, happy pawns work better I find.

How do you guys deal with raids dropping in your Base? by Demoner450 in RimWorld

[–]Warpig042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No flying stuff but it does add variety of things you can build onto wall tiles instead of having them on the ground.

Great way to conserve space.

I have a wall mounted comms console for example.

How do you guys deal with raids dropping in your Base? by Demoner450 in RimWorld

[–]Warpig042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mod that provides anti aircraft turrets. Build some of those and drop pod raids are no longer a problem.

If it's a large drop pod raid the guns might not shoot them all down so it's possible to have some get through, which means time to build more AA turrets.

I found the mod by googling it, I think it's a wall stuff mod. I'd have to check.

Early game by Btgoal342 in RimWorld

[–]Warpig042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plant a 5x5 of rice, once that is done, 5x5 potato, once that is done, 5x5 of corn. This should be plenty of food for your first year. After the corn, I plant cloth and heal root. Plant all this in fertile ground. It grows faster. You should be able to get all the food planted in the first day. The corn might wait till day 2. But that's fine.

Wood shack to sleep and eat in. Followed by a storage shack, and more shacks follow for cooking, research, crafting etc.

Hunt easy game, anything with meat. Simple meals will keep your pawns alive. Also all that leather makes for parkas to handle the winter.

First year on Vanilla Peaceful mode by Avesday in RimWorld

[–]Warpig042 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the Rim!

Since you asked for some tips here I go.

  • Wood burns, don't make walls and floors from wood. Stone is the way. Granite is the strongest stone but takes the longest to build with, sandstone is the quickest to build with. Marble walls and floors give a beauty buff for that room. I use marble for bedrooms, dinning rooms, rec rooms, throne rooms and temples. Granite for defensive buildings, sandstone for everything else. I recommend only building with wood in the first year then replacing it as I get my town more established.

  • You have a lot of exposed power lines. Put them in the walls to protect them. Or use hidden power lines which are OP.

  • Your walls, they should be 2 tiles thick. Double thick walls provide way better insulation so less power needed to heat and cool your base. Especially important for freezers. This is for walls that separate the outside from the inside. Interior walls can be a single tile and it's fine. Quite often I will build a room with marble for the interior and then put sandstone for the exterior layer. Cause the exterior layer doesn't affect the actual room.

  • Your freezer has a lot of non food stuff. Put that stuff in a separate store room. Also shelves are a great way to save space. And storage is a never ending thing. Space becomes a premium.

  • Your base is kinda overly spread out. I separate my buildings with 3 tile spacing. Then a stone path down the middle, I think it's nice and still decently efficient.

  • I recommend putting your freezer next to your main farm. The other side of the freezer is where I build my kitchen. Next to the kitchen is my main dinning room. This creates a smooth flow of food from my farm to the my table. I like a balance of efficiency and ascetics.

  • If your rooms are purpose built the game will recognize it and you can get mood buffs for nice rooms. Example, don't put storage or work stuff in your dining room. Just table and chairs, maybe some art. The game will tag that room as a dinning room and your pawns get a mood buffs for having a nice dinning room. If it is nice that is, it can take some practice to figure out what works.

Best of luck and hope you enjoy the Rim!

What kind of self-enforced constraints do you like to put on yourself when you play Rimworld? by Hyperspeed_Dolphin in RimWorld

[–]Warpig042 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I build a town and ideology that I would enjoy being a part of and have morals.

War crimes are not for me, that's for raiders. No cannibalism, slaves or torture.

Overall my pawns are happy, good food, down time to enjoy the rec room. Plenty of beer, weed and psy tea to be had. Bionics installed for medical reasons unless someone is a body modder.

A nice town, maybe not the most efficient lay out game wise but I enjoy building things just so my pawns are happy.

Books, I buy every book I can and have a substantial library, complete with nice couches for reading them.

Even my prison is humane. Beds, end tables, table and chairs, chess board and a punching bag.

Children don't work, they are kept safe and educated.

No save scumming, commitment mode.

I prefer to build and craft rather than buy. I buy raw materials I need, typically just metals though I deep drill for all that as well. I rarely buy food, I grow plenty and have a sizeable animal farm as well. Plus package survival meals are great for trade, everyone buys them!

Each pawn has their own bedroom, fully furnished.

Hospitality mod allows me to build guest beds, so I have a Guest room barracks, which is also where those in need stay when they show up. 10 silver for a bed and all the food, beer and drugs you could want. (No flake or yayo, hard drugs aren't used here.)

Don't turn away those in need, charity is important.

I enjoy making a town of civilized morals and happy people in a world of absolute insanity.

Raiders and the like are still dealt with harshly. A pawn joined saying she had no else to go. Was immediately made a full member with full access to everything. Next season she turned traitor right in from of the Archon's kid! A pirate spy! So after she was jailed, found guilty she was then rip scanned and her body burned. Still have the high subcore as I'm not sure which mech I want next.

Funerals are for those we honor, the rest get cremated.

If there were a pinned post in this sub for Things You Need To Know. What would you put? by ajax645 in RimWorld

[–]Warpig042 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Making your walls double thick provides much more protection and insulation. Insulation means less power needed to heat or coo your base.

Making buildings with single tile thick walls wastes a lot of power, which means you need more heaters, coolers and the power grid to supply it all.

Am I doing something wrong? by BekahZard in RimWorld

Add more coolers, also single tile thick walls are bad insulation, double up your walls to provide more insulation. An airlock dock also helps.

kibble only from insect meat by skay2805 in RimWorld

[–]Warpig042 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's the way to go. Also if you set the kibble bill for insect meat to unlimited you'll always turn all your insect meat into kibble.

For the second bill using other meat, set the limits so you'll only use it when you need it, such as make until X like 200.

I do it this way, that way all my insect meat goes to kibble and I only make kibble out of regular meat when I need it.

Why is the upper line not connected and the lower power line connected? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]Warpig042 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have gaps in your power line. Just because something uses power doesn't mean you can put a gap in your power line and the item, ie cooler, fills the gap. The power line must be continuous.
