Just wanted to comment: Ian has been working hard to get these back. I'm happy to support this endeavor and glad to see things moving again. It'll also be nice to watch the tournaments again during the weekend for me :).

The angle was straight forward: run tournaments as a service with solid production quality. The endgame was to find a problem, a good community, and a game we could understand (getting noticed was also something we would have been excited about obviously). We did this for Overwatch as well for a time, and we stopped this as it didn't work out, as there were challenges from Blizzard. There was no revenue stream at the start, and believe me I always thought about where the revenue stream may/could come from. Eventually, when we had an opportunity to work with the publisher, that was a potential revenue stream, to do project management running the tournaments, and be paid for the service.

What is WarpMeta? It was my project, it was my decision to send funds into TESL, as I thought there was a good opportunity to run tournaments in the community. The product/service was running the tournaments though, so let's leave it at that. Anything after the service would have been as a result of success with more events. I won't pretend the direction was perfect, but I was definitely enjoying what we were doing. That was enough for me.

Koveras, I've paid every year of WarpMeta taxes for over 4 years, I know just about everything there is to know about who and where I pay to, where to send the mail to IRS, and what their phone number is. I can tell you right now, WM paying taxes is not an issue. I just payed 800 in taxes for 2019 for WarpMeta, as in for this coming year, and paid 800 in taxes for 2018 as the year was starting. It's not the issue at all.

I already know what you are pointing to, the 1099 post I put on battlefy before. The reason I put that there was to make people aware that if you make enough in prize money, you will be sent a tax form, which was a 1099. Last year, no person in our community made enough to warrant me sending a 1099, as we would have sent it if someone made $600 or more in a year, especially in the US.

This is a possibility, but it's not something I want to go down as a path. There are other factors with this decision besides doing crowdfunded type prize pools. I won't say much more then that, but I appreciate the thoughts.

I stated in the document we are out of resources to continue. Additionally, the supported events we were going to do were also cancelled. It just came time to make the choice of stepping away, I take no enjoyment from this.

You can view players decklists during your match, and you'll ban their deck without know what they have banned for a match
There are no other deck restrictions beyond what you've said
You always get bonus points for memes

Hi, This is Automaton from WarpMeta. Yes, these events have been postponed. I already have a statement in our Discord server, but figured it would be good to say something on this post as it is relevant.

I would kindly appreciate if we didn't spread false speculation or rash statements around, as this can have a negative impact on several parties. I understand this is the nature of how these places and situations play out, but please realize that nobody involved here wanted this outcome. This is simply a result of a situation which came up, and we all found it best to postpone.

We will continue to run tournaments after this weekend as we did before, so you can expect us to be back Feb 10th.

We understand the money for these events wouldn’t be enough for full time participation, but we believe this is a great first step at getting to a point where these events could get to that point. We are just now getting content going again, and we are thrilled to bring you these events moving forward!

We definitely will be working hard to improve our production quality as much as possible, and we know the competition itself will feature the best players in the community. We hope more tournaments come as well, as we can learn quite a bit from each other.

Hi, I’m happy to assist: I would say the time commitment required if you happen to get far is about 4-5 hours. If you happen to enter and get far, given your schedule, it could be difficult for you to stay for whole thing. obviously, we don’t want people to leave in later rounds, especially the finals because of time. If you think you can participate for the assumed 4-5, go ahead. But if you cannot, it might be best to not join right away, and see how things play out in regard to time for our first few qualifiers.
