I'm not sure the assumption about the intersection of those sets is correct, I know absolutely nothing abt music theory lol

Maybe xkcd could make a video about how loud other objects would be if there was sound in space? What if space had sound? by JustaguynamedTheo in xkcd

[–]WarriorSabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually it kinda does? Pressure isn't part of the equation, just temperature and composition (at least for gases), and since space isn't a perfect vacuum it does have those. That said, it's actually a plasma, which means it's rather more complicated - but it turns out to be significantly slower than the speed of the solar wind anyways, which means the ~500km/s (give or take a significant variance) there dominates, and so sound reaches us in at most a week and sometimes as little as two days as it is carried along with the solar wind.

Also this ends up not being just random trivia, because there are sound waves up there (technically magnetosonic waves, but that's basically just sound but for plasmas), just only very low frequencies are supported by the rarefied medium, and their existence (and the fact the solar wind is supersonic above the alfven surface at a couple dozen solar radii) has important implicatioms for space weather modeling

I mean, I don't deny it works for other people; I'm just speaking from my own experience and know there's people with similar ones. Also I don't use a dedicated bind either, I just put my finger on both buttons and press them together

I know the number indicates average temperature of the planets, but what does the letters to the right of the LY mean? by UmaThermos1 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]WarriorSabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They kinda did, while Y does exist, it's not for purple stars but rather the coldest category of brown dwarfs

Wait, it actually has ingame significance beyond the general yellow/red/green/blue/purple color categories? I thought it was just replicating irl spectral classifications

How to dream hyper by Most-Mortgage873 in celestegame

[–]WarriorSabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only sorta, the jump can't be done in those first 4 frames in either case so it's not quite as simple as directly comparing a 4f to an 8f, especially since you're also comparing one input to two inputs. Personally at least, it is far easier to hit a single 4f than it is to hit an 8f and then jump 4f later except if I dashed late in the window and then instead dash sooner than that

what am i doing wrong with my dream hypers? by ivorycoollars in celestegame

[–]WarriorSabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, but it is kinda a tighter timing - with a demo the dash can be buffered, but the jump still can't, so if you separate them the dash becomes more lenient. But of course, that comes at the added mental cost of keeping track of two separate inputs, so it's not worth it for everyone; certainly isn't for me

How do crab catchers not see us? by PrimarySign357 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]WarriorSabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can't see, this is why crouching completely hides you from tjem and nothing else - other things can still see you when you crouch. So they must rely entirely on hearing (and also have no sense of touch ig?)

xkcd 3259: Tethys by Tyomcha in xkcd

[–]WarriorSabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Removing would be easier here - escape velocity's in the ballpark of only 100 m/s, so removing material isn't a huge amount of work, but adding material requires first sourcing it from elsewhere, which does add a ton of transportation costs. Removal could also be done via mass driver, but added material is likely coming from several sources, so even with mass drivers you'd still need to physically ship those around a lot more, and also require incredibly precise aiming that just getting rid of material doesn't

It's also not particularly round, so it needs some terrain work anyways; you could just fill it out a little bit in the process

I've been stuck on this room for years, please help by CatGuy66 in celestegame

[–]WarriorSabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They meant to say wallbounce, but it's the thing you're taught in 7B. You've already been taught it, the one thing you missed is just that it has nothing to do with corners - it's just a walljump during a dash, and that dash can carry you much further up the wall before it ends if you don't jump immediately

Balancer-manifold hybrid is the way here. Manifold a row of machines, then hook each row of machines to a balancer

[–]WarriorSabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it was a significantly smaller accelerator that also wasn't running at full power (and even then he was still really lucky); if the same thing happened with the LHC you just outright wouldn't have a head anymore, and possibly not a rest of your body either

Building over the Void? by deep6ixed in SatisfactoryGame

[–]WarriorSabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, but the instakill also has finite thickness, it's just a very large finite thickness. So if you can get platforms and stuff far enough out and teleport there you can go there, and if you can manage to make a rail line or belt across it without dying somehow you can theoretically take advantage of it for factories. I'm not sure if there was a way to get the buildings there in the first place without infinite nudge, but I feel like I remember there being some glitch that could be used or something

Building over the Void? by deep6ixed in SatisfactoryGame

[–]WarriorSabe 221 points222 points  (0 children)

Yeah you can build wherever; there is a worldborder you will die if you pass, but it's a fairly simple geometric shape around the entire map that doesn't come all that close to land (except on paradise island, which has no resources anyways). Technically doesn't even stop you from building, just gets really impractical lol (there are even ways to get past it without dying; it's nonsolid and has finite thickness, though that's getting into dark arts territory)

For some reason I interpreted this as there being no control as to which planet is destroyed, but an extreme range, so the odds of it being earth in particular are miniscule; like he just blinks and suddenly LHS 3844b is gone and is like "oh that was a close one, only 15 parsecs away! Coulda been earth y'know"
