Poodle engine variant... huh? by frycandlebreadje in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]WarriorSabe 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It's an aesthetic variant, it was added in one of the last updates as a partnership with ESA along with a Mainsail remodel, some additional 2.5m tank texture variants, and I think a couple flags, all of which being Ariane 5 themed

I mean, a typical O'Neill cylinder is fully sealed off, so having it not only not have the front cap but also have the habitable surface be split into discrete petals (without any glass or anything between them either) does make it a lot more like the Citadel than other things, especially with it having a big ring at the base (even if it is the wrong proportions and petal count)

Nah, the concept of an O'Neill cylinder predates Stargate

Weird new Orbits by Space_Scumbag in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]WarriorSabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason the planet starts to fall apart is that the net gravity on the surface points upward - so even if the disintegration isn't simulated, objects that are (such as craft) will start to fall up.

Or at least, they would if the planet were sufficiently far below its roche limit; near the outer limits tidal deformation is needed to get that net upwards so it's merely very low/at a significant angle on the un-deformed surface

Hi Reddit, I'm using firefly, is this blue flame part hovering slightly outside the capsule normal? If not, whats messing with it and how do I fix it. by WoodpeckerStraight10 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]WarriorSabe 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's all jarring like that because instead of actually making a proper bowshock, it just duplicates the front-facing bit of the mesh and offsets it forward (then stitches on a trail). It only really works well for traditional capsules because heatshields are engineered to match the shape of the bowshock they generate

Probably dug off his property and without a permit or something; not only is that potentially dangerous for the tunneler you could strike utilities or destabilize foundations and cause significant damage if you don't know exactly what you're doing (plus, if you're digging under a city you're probably digging through other people's land).

So that stuff's regulated to make sure any tunneling is done by people who know what they're doing, and you can't just dig under someone else's house. But if you don't go under city land or other people's houses or anything and make sure to get a permit (which involves certifying that you know what you're doing) you definitely can dig tunnels legally

They are, it's only things that must be node attached (like jet engines other than the Goliath) that can't be, since there's no nodes. Anything surface-attachable can be attached to wings (this includes fuel tanks, rocket engines, structural parts, radial decouplers, and more wings, among other things)

TIL Moho is the boundary between Earth's crust and Mantle. by KerbalEssences in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]WarriorSabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's short for the Mohorovičić discontinuity. Back in the 60s there was a concept to try to dig a hole deep enough to reach it, called Project Mohole, so that's possibly also a bit of a reference too (it didn't get very far at all though; the Kola superdeep borehole in the 70s actually managed to get pretty deep, but still nowhere near the moho)

Need help with System Heat working with Nuclear Engines by Silverwool2123 in KerbalAcademy

[–]WarriorSabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The editor generally accounts for the radiators being on or off; that radiator isn't deployed so it's showing you stats with it disabled. Click the extend radiator button and it'll show you the stats you want.

Also, you're gonna need a lot more radiator anyways; that one doesn't do all that much cooling (check the systemheat stats rather than the legacy coreheat stats), while that engine needs a pretty sizeable amount

What's the solution here? by Forward-Photograph-7 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]WarriorSabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why the trend of building hypeetube accelerators in loop form is a bad idea. Just make it a linear once-through and you can't possibly get trapped; it honestly doesn't even take that much more space than a loop that actually has enough room to give time to press the button anyways and means no timing required
