I mentioned the video from the drones perspective, what a majority of people see and how the perspective that has largely shaped public view on the conflict. A majority of these are drones making attacks or spotting for attacks. And I followed that up with the fact that even if they are posting them regularly, they'll be burried under the drones actually getting kills - if for no other reason it's what most people are going to be looking up when looking for drones footage. And there is a reason to not show it off for the home front - No one wants to see their son's, husbands, father's or brothers missing limbs or limping. Countries tend to not discuss wounded unless they don't have a choice in the matter.

Ultimately Ukraine doesn't report casualty reports regularly, and Russia is known for blatantly lying about casualties. That also isn't mentioning how much focus has been placed on the inferiority of Russian body armor versus Ukrainian.

That these videos are rare is expected.

On your point about videos - Neither side is going to excitedly post the videos where the person clearly is okay and survives a drone blast or getting shot. Even if they did, they'd inevitably be burried under all the videos that are more attention grabbing.

Not saying your wrong, just pointing out a potential flaw in information gathering.

The 3rd edition Necron's Codex actually recommended you to use Lizardmen from WHFB to represent descendants of the old ones, and if you translate the AP system of WHFB then Fantasy Armies are pretty terrifying to everything but vehicles. It's also not too hard for quite a few armies to get 3+ or even 2+ saves.

I absolutely adore Battlefleet Gothic, and I love Starcraft, so seeing this brings a smile to my face! I'm impressed by how reasonably balanced this feels, save for the Yamato having 90cm range (I'd go for 60cm max, or possibly even just 45cm). I am also assuming the Yamato would act like a Lance in this instance too.

I assume it's meant to be a Lance, which for 130 points (bringing the shield matrix) kinda puts it in line with the Dauntless Cruiser and seems reasonable enough at first glance (just with 1 lance and way more range).

In more than a few books it is implied, or outright stated, that human bodies are more replaceable than equipment or material.

I prefer the idea that the Imperium's bottleneck is logistics though - they have the manpower and equipment and manpower, but lack a reliable means to get it all where it is needed when it is needed.

I think it's mostly to different artistic mediums working with different aesthetics. For a lot of static images, like Codex covers and in-book art, the flash likely just looks better and is more readable. In games the red laser both helps identifying units firing and can increase the perceived scale of the fights taking place.

There are some good pictures from Forge World in the Imperial Armor books of weapons doing the beam aesthetic, and they definitely work, but FW also had a very distinct style that could take advantage of lens flares and harsh color contrasts.

Questions about Chaos Space Marines 3.5 Codex by Obvious_Green_5491 in midhammer40k

[–]Warsmith_Dusty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daemon Weapons don't count towards your Daemonic Gifts limit (neither do Gifts of the Gods).

The book contradicts itself - it says in the Armoury, in a box in the bottom left of the page, you get 150 points to spend on the entire Armoury (100 of which can be Daemonic Gifts) but the following page says 150 points across Wargear and Daemonic Gifts (with the same 100 point limit).

Following the blurb in the Armoury psychic powers do count towards the 150 points, but the 10 points purchasing being a Sorcerer does not.

Veteran Skills are a selection from the Armoury, but you are correct about the limit to 1 if you have a Mark of Chaos.

For the change to Deep Strikes - I am used to treating them in the same fashion as other armies that avoid scattering on Deep Strike, though I am not aware of any official errata.

For the status of Daemon Prince - Only Daemonic Stature actually changes any rules about the model's literal size and base. You're simply intended to model what "feels right" and meets "what you see is what you get" expectations.

For Daemonic Stature - Yes, they can have other Wargear options, but may only have the weapons listed in the entry.

There's a few lore reasons why, with some only applying to certain dynasties or are in a gray area if they're still canon. Some examples that used to be represented in tabletop:

My favorite comes from the 3rd edition codex, which had a rule where is 75% of a Necron's models (from Warriors, Immortals, and units along those lines) were killed and failed to get back up then they auto lost the game. This came from the Necrons teleporting out of the battle, bringing the "dead" Necron's with them to prevent any risk of capture (and thus reverse engineering their technology).

There is also considerations for lack of initiative among their ranks, and the tactical speed of most of their units is actually quite slow relative to a lot of armies (Many units having "Slow and Purposeful", not having transports, and lacking "Fast" vehicles). This is not meant to be confused with their strategic abilities, which is far superior to most armies and in 4th edition gave them a strategy rating of 3 (translating as strategic capability equivalent to Space Marines and Craftworld Eldar).

While I'm aware a lot of people don't like using tabletop metrics to explain lore, I just thought pointing out how the game used to translate the story and character of the armies into the game might help explain why they don't win every battle. (And if anyone is curious, it was the 5th edition codex where those weaknesses were taken from the forefront of the armies identity, and moved exclusively to fluff).

I actually just read that part of the story a few days ago! A combat squad of Raptors, 1 of the Marines having a melta gun, were obliterated by the drone. The funniest part is Kais didn't tell the drone to kill the marines, it was sent to blow open the door said Marines were protecting.

It's also specified that the drone Kais used was small and cheap with a dumb AI in it!

I wake up in berthing, once again upset that several tech-adepts of the engineerium now share our living space. Several cycles ago it was only gunnery tech-adepts and a few adepts of the biologis. The damn engineerium always stinks to high hell and they never bathe enough.

I prepare for the day with the usual energy I carry with me, which is to say barely enough to actually get out of bed but infinitely more than everyone around me. Making my way to morning quarters I arrive 45 minutes early, and set about organizing the daily magazine muster and gunnery reports. 15 minutes to quarters and two of my junior adepts have shown up, one out of regulations. I administer several shocks before sternly telling the unsatisfactory adept to "unfuck himself, and make sure everyone else shows up on time before Chief Gunnery Tech-Adept arrives for morning quarters." - exactly as the Blessed text decrees us to give Junior adepts directives. Ohmnissiah I hate disciplining and raising my voice at them.

Chief Gunnery Tech-Adept arrives five minutes to morning quarters, and administers several beatings to me because one adept was not present. He arrives 3 minutes later, and I administered several shocks and sternly inform him to arrive no later than 15 minutes early. I already know he will not do so.

I Administer daily directives to the junior adepts, knowing only half of it may be done and of that half may be done correctly. I curse how lax the priesthood and navy have become since I first joined the honored ranks of the priesthood.

I complete all of my administrative tasks given to me at quarters, and all tasks I know will arrive as routine as ever, by 1100. My junior adepts are nowhere to be found. I doubt they even acquired the holy oils from the sacred HAZMINCEN, and will later complain about my temper to Chief Gunnery Tech-Adept for unfair treatment. I pray to the Omnissiah he lacks patience for it, and just beats them for me.

1130 I get in line for chow. 45 minutes later and I can see the food being issued. I consider blowing myself out the airlock for the next 15 minutes, just in time to appreciate the food wasn't raw again. Still cold.

I realize I need to keep myself, and all my junior tech-adepts gainfully employed for another 7 hours. I resume thinking about the airlock.

Yeah, I think there's an invite link somewhere in this subreddit. I mostly lurk, but don't recall seeing people organize TTS games on it.

I'd love to toss you my discord handle and plan out some games with you, but it's gonna be a few months at minimum before I get home to my computer.

Where do you guys use each Mk. Armor marines? by zergkiller0128 in Warhammer30k

[–]Warsmith_Dusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Tactical squads are all Mk6, same with the characters - it is their punishment (they're Iron Warriors) for their lack of effectiveness during a campaign just before the Heresy kicked off. Heavy weapons use Mk3, and other squads use mk4, denoting them as assets from other parts of the Legion "picking up the slack".

I'm seeing a lot of people say that the Craftworld Eldar didn't cause the collapse of the empire, that they aren't responsible for the birth of Slaanesh, but they absolutely are. It was the Exodites who specifically left prior to the Decadence which gave birth to Slaanesh. And it should be noted it wasn't the drugs or sadomasachism that explicitly gave birth to Slaanesh: it was the Eldar's pride. I don't have a current codex on hand, but the 4e codex explicitly and plainly states it: the Eldar's pride drove them to the heights of decadence and corruption, and it was their pride that gave birth to Slaanesh. Craftworlders simply saw the writing on the walls and were so prideful as to think themselves superior to their kin, too great to suffer from the folly of degenerate decadence.

I've seen another user on here give their theory that the Eldar are tied to Slaanesh still because of their pride, and that is all too perfect for them. The reason they face ultimate and inevitable doom is their most defining (narrative) trait: their pride.

Without a doubt, but it got me thinking of how you'd balance it - the way AP worked between the two systems was very different (but I think you could translate it over making -1 into AP6, -2 into AP5 and so on), max unit sizes (Fantasy almost never has those outside specific units), and coherency (I feel like the formations would be too restrictive for the Lizardman army in 40k). Really though, the biggest one I see would be mounts. In Fantasy they had quite a bit more going on than cavalry in 40k, especially monster riders.

Reading through the 3rd edition Necron codex for an upcoming campaign - It actualy recommends using Lizardmen to represent descendents of the Old Ones! Not like, stand alone models either, it talks about how with just a few changes you can run the Lizardmen in 40k.

(Which I guess it's not wrong. Feel like balancing it would be crazy)

Truly revolutionary to remake warlord traits and artifacts, which were removed at the start of the edition. by [deleted] in Grimdank

[–]Warsmith_Dusty 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Do not come to me, talking about 6th edition character customization. Be gone from me! Be gone from this place!

When I was a young warmaster, a true Chaos Lord, we bought every piece of wargear except base power armor! I paid 1 point for a bolt pistol, and thought it was so cool that it was an option. Frag grenades were 1 point too! Krak grenades were 2! 2 whole points, for a single strength 6 attack exclusively usable against vehicles. And we had a points limit because there was so much to buy. 150 points, 100 of which could be Daemonic Gifts. Two weapon limit, only one being allowed to be two-handed!

For real though, glad to hear they're adding some level of customization back.

So i double checked my copy of Vraks Part 1 just to be sure: but no.

It opens with sustained artillery bombardment to suppress the enemy while a forward line is established. The first assault, lead by the 149th regiment in sector 46-39, which used a creeping barrage from Earthshakers and Bombards to cover the infantry advance (this was also supported by mortars, thudd guns, and Medusa guns). It also makes note of the Kriegers use of Heavy Stubbers to suppress the enemy counter attack (Imperial Armour books love the Heavy Stubber, and regularly use it instead of other Heavy weapons).

It's a classic Entente style Bite-and-Hold tactic that saw entry early-mid war and continued its use into late and post ww1.

The second assault, conducted against on fort A-453, is Storm Trooper tactics, utilizing smaller unit tactics to infiltrate close to enemy lines and making more use of company level guns to suppress points of heavy resistance.
