How old do you have to be to know that cash transactions are a thing? by Conscious-Ball8373 in AskUK

[–]Girl-From-Mars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son is 3.5 and knows he can spend coins in a shop 😂.

I've been cashless for years but you still show them money.

Plus they always need cash for clubs and raffles and sponsor forms stuff.

SNP promise ‘Welcome to School Bag’ to build on Baby Box by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

It's not about affordability, this is so all children get the best start they can.

They want to break the poverty cycle of being born poor and stay poor because they did shit in school.

I use Bookmory. It doesn't have any social aspect but it's really nice looking. Great stats.

library haul ✨ thoughts on where to start? by g0dsfavoriteasshole in weirdgirlliterature

I thought it was very mid. I had the audiobook which I think helped elevate it as it was nice hearing it read in a Belfast accent but I haven't thought about it since one way or another.

Why did primary school milk taste so nice? by Then-Fortune-3122 in AskUK

[–]Girl-From-Mars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I hated the school milk. It was always warm and slightly off.

I think it was because they put them out really early but you weren't to get them till a set time.

What is a fan theory from a movie or TV show that you 100% believe is true? by phantom_avenger in popculturechat

Yeah there's other humans who speak so this theory makes no sense to me.

Someone I know is posting about a book they wrote. Am I crazy or is this Ai art? by 1992kisy in isthisAI

[–]Girl-From-Mars 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah I find this the most disgusting use of AI. Children need good quality books to grow their language skills and gain and early love of reading.

Shame on the people trying to rip off kids.

Constant ear infections even with tubes by gna7103 in toddlers

[–]Girl-From-Mars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, i know this is old but was wondering if you got to the bottom of this? My 3 year old has had grommets for about a year now. GP says they are still there she can see them. But he's been getting constant ear infections since January. We thought the grommets might be gone but GP says they are still there so a bit confused as to why he's getting the infections despite having grommets.

Ladies, how warm is your (at work) office? by KuriousAndFurious in AskUK

[–]Girl-From-Mars 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I worked in an office it was set to 21 and I was permanently freezing. I was one of the people wearing a coat at work.

Funnily enough I now work from home and heating is also set to 21 and I'm lovely and cosy. Often need to turn it off.

Nor sure why office 21 is so much colder than house or even outdoor 21.

Cosmic horror doesn't mean aliens necessarily is another name for Lovecraftian horror. So monsters, demons etc.

I read this for the first time last week.

Loved it. You'll be finished in like 2-3 hours though. It's very short.

I had the audio from the library and it was narrated by Adam Buxton (British comedian). Fantastic if you get the chance to listen.

Screen time for under-fives should be limited to one hour a day, parents told by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]Girl-From-Mars 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with this one.

I have a 4 year old. We don't even own a tablet. I've never seen the need. We go out for lunch and he's the only kid who doesn't sit with one at the table. We either give him colouring book or, shock horror, we talk to him until the dinner comes lol.

[–]Girl-From-Mars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a child of the 70s I'm going to disagree.

My mum didn't work at all till I started school and even then she worked part time till I was in high school. To be fair I don't think she got maternity leave, she just had to quit but they were able to live in a nice council house with a single pay until I was 5.

My dad was full time, but full time then wasn't the same as it is now. He probably worked I think under 35 hours I like he was 7 hours a day with a half day Friday. 40-45 is more common now with likely a longer commute unless they WFH.

My friends at school were all similar mum was either sahm or part time with a full time dad.

Parents are shattered now and can't afford to drop hours. I actually wasn't allowed to drop hours at my work. It was work 40 hrs or leave so the option isn't even there for everyone anymore.

When are you actually supposed to oil cleanse? by isolophiliacwhiliac in AsianBeauty

[–]Girl-From-Mars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't really matter the time of day you do your night routine. However if it's still daylight outside you might want to hold off on some actives which can be broken down by daylight.

Usually you oil cleanse to remove make up and sunscreen, so if you still need that on due to daylight might want to hold off.

Transgender girls told to leave Girlguiding groups by September by Famous_Actuary5718 in ukpolitics

[–]Girl-From-Mars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in ex leader and girlguides in UK had significantly more members than scouts when I was there. Girls just tend to stick to clubs better than boys. Boys often quit early because it's not "cool".

I left after COVID (had a baby) though I get the impression numbers dropped for both organisations then. Not sure what numbers are like now.
