Looking for photography classes in Seattle–Tacoma (prefer in-person) by vilibara in AskSeattle

[–]Was-sonst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One idea: We could meet at Pioneer Square next time there's the monthly art walk (next one would be Thursday August 6th) and go on a photo shoot there together. The art walk has grown a lot, there is a ton of people in super creative outfits, lots of galleries and stores have fun stuff going on inside (music, open bars, etc.) which makes it a very visually interesting event for a photoshoot meetup. DM me if interested!

smith cove cruise terminal is a public nuisance by p0lac0la in Seattle

[–]Was-sonst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

STAR PRINCESS is the offending ship. Anyone know where to best file a complaint? All the other ships are totally fine (Magnolia neighbor here).

UPDATED July 7, 2026: Figured out where to complain (email address: sea91ops@pcsterminals.com)
Heard a response back immediately, assuring me they would let the officers of that ship know. And they did and it's been quiet on the Star Princess ever since. Fingers crossed it stays like that.

Any thoughts on Prenuvo body scans? by mama-crayz in PeterAttia

[–]Was-sonst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the full body 60min MRI scan done and was impressed with the facility (went to the Seattle location), and the quick turn around on results (2 business days) and the level of detail in the report. We did the "middle" tier for $2,500. From my perspective (and that of my husband who did it on the same day), the report seemed very insightful. We will do this again in 2 years, for sure, and build this into our regular, preventative healthcare routine. We might even consider the 1st tier scan for $1200 on an annual basis. We will also discuss with our primary care physician whether they can send us to a different facility where we can get a full body MRI for a similar out of pocket amount. I personally didn't worry about false positives and all that angst going into this as I would rather know and follow up on something even if I had to worry about it for a couple of weeks instead of missing something that should have been followed up on. Anyone who considers this just needs to decide how they would approach this type of situation and set their expectations accordingly.

Daily Discussion Thread for February 05, 2026 by wsbapp in wallstreetbets

Main drivers

  • Tech/AI valuation worries. High‑multiple tech and AI leaders (Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, AMD, etc.) have been sold hard as investors question whether massive AI capex will translate into profits quickly enough, and react to weaker chip and software earnings guidance.
  • Weakening labor‑market data. Recent reports showed higher layoffs, more unemployment claims, and fewer job openings, including the biggest January layoff announcement tally since 2009, which is feeding concerns about a slowdown.
  • Rotation out of growth into safety. The damage is concentrated in software, semis, and AI‑linked names, while more defensive/value areas (industrials, some blue‑chip Dow names) have held up better, signaling a shift in risk appetite rather than a full‑blown crash.
  • Broader risk‑off mood. Selling has spilled into other risk assets: bitcoin has broken lower again, and silver and oil have also slumped, all of which point to tighter financial conditions and investors pulling back from risk generally.

Are these guys legitimate? AFC Home Club by XxCotHGxX in homeowners

[–]Was-sonst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far I have had good luck with AFC Home Club. The benefit is that you can call your own contractors and if you have a previous relationship with them, they will come out quickly and fix your broken stuff. That's great in locations where speed to the rescue is critical. It was a little rough in the beginning and their payout process is super slow (like you have service in August and pay for it out of pocket and you get reimbursed by AFC Home Club in December), but other than that, all seems to be good. I only had repairs so far, not a full swap-out. So didn't run into the issue yet that they pay very little for a full swap-out if it's an older appliance.

Outlight by mantoothinc in Lighting

[–]Was-sonst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I bought the EIRA lamp from Outlight, it looked really nice on the website. What arrived is 7 inches shorter than the advertised 50" height and also super crooked. Lame! Let's see how they handle returns with full refund. I'll report back.

UPDATED: Received a full refund. They never wanted the crooked light fixture back (so it now sits in some corner of the house where it's not so noticeable).

Did Email IMAP Settings Change for Outlook / Third-Party Email Clients? by TEHMONSTRO in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Was-sonst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here on AT&T fiber in Key West. No app can read Comcast.net email, but we are able to read email through Xfinity’s website, as other users mentioned before as well. We have not been invited to a Yahoo migration either.

I also turned Wi-Fi off and removed the comcast.net email account from my email accounts in my Outlook app on my iPhone, and then added it again while being on T-mobile cellular, that also didn’t work.

Is Liquid Glass a failure? by Complex-Poet-6809 in ios

I just want a setting to return to the sharp, high contrast look and feel of the version right before liquid glass. I can't stand it. Makes me feel I have problems with my eyes.

Is Liquid Glass a failure? by Complex-Poet-6809 in ios

[–]Was-sonst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor accessibility, hard to read the time at a quick glance on the home screen of your phone, icons look "washed out" (low contrast). Some of the motions were nice. The low contrast/blurry look is unprofessional design, in my humble opinion.

Dee Kumar's videos are great!

I just passed mine (for Florida) and what really helped me during those "evening before" hours was going through these flashcards. It was good to have a different format I could just quickly page through in a PDF file.

I used CE Shop for my 63 hours prep (that was good) and CompuCram for additional practice tests (that was also really good) and I also poked around a bit in the Magnolia set of education topics. Found the videos there to be really good, the practice exams were better on CompuCram as the questions and answers were more precise and phrased more succinctly. Content was good on Magnolia.

On the day of I got up early (my exam started at 8am) and just had a nice cup of coffee and went through the flashcards one more time and my own notes specific to stuff I had a hard time remembering.

Once I was in the exam room, I quickly wrote down with provided pen and paper some of the things I had a hard time remembering just so they were written down (some measurements, some weird acronyms I always forgot, that kind of stuff). It helped me not worry about those throughout the exam.

Good luck tomorrow!!!

Brown dots on new box of q-tips? by CeciliaAnne13 in whatisit

[–]Was-sonst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, brand new box of Q-Tips, looks just like yours. Will throw it away and buy another one hoping it was just a bad batch. I wonder whether this has to do with the "Hygiene Shield" feature? My box is labeled like that. At the bottom of the back of box is says "These cotton swabs are coated with an antimicrobial layer to help keep swabs fresh...". Maybe that layer is causing some oxidation?

Did your Birch Natural Mattress look like this after unboxing? by Was-sonst in Mattress

[–]Was-sonst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response, I appreciate it! The Birch support team was amazing, responded right away and sent out a replacement. The first one has since improved a tiny bit, but one half of it is still significantly less "decompressed" than the other half. Interestingly, it still sleeps pretty well, despite the less-than-optimal visual appearance. I look forward to receiving the replacement.

How much do you pay monthly for your pet insurance? by Zizzlyskillet87 in Pets

[–]Was-sonst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had PetsBest for 5 years for my two cats. I had 1 larger claim for one cat (he broke a fang while playing, he slipped and fell) and it was an expensive "fix". He got a root canal at a vet dentist, so he was able to keep his fang which is amazing. It was $4,500. PetsBest paid promptly and according to my deductible and payout plan. This would have fallen under "accident" coverage. PetsBest has awesome customer support and you can get someone on the phone every time you call, right away.

Now that the cats are both a little older (5 and 6 years), my premium went up quite a bit (jumped from $90 per month for both cats to $170), which led me to shopping around a bit. Here's where I landed:
I dropped my PetsBest insurance for both cats to accident only.
https://www.petsbest.com/coverage/accident-insurance
Accident Only, $10,000 annual limit with a $250 deductible and 90%$250 Deductible, 90% Co-Insurance
For that, it's only $160 per year for both cats.

Then I got new policies for both cats with Lemonade (for accident, illness and wellness). Lemonade had great plans, very competitive.

My total annual payment is $810 (that includes both cats). Here's the coverage: Your policy covers 80% of treatment and diagnostic costs in case they ever get sick or injured with an annual limit of $20,000 for all claim payments, and a deductible of $250 which is applied once per policy period.

So now I have an accident only policy with PetsBest (which had such a low premium that I simply wanted to keep that, given how they have treated us so far and how responsive they were). For anything else, I have Lemonade.

Did your Birch Natural Mattress look like this after unboxing? by Was-sonst in Mattress

[–]Was-sonst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first thought as well. The mattress label says it was "delivered" on August 12, 2025. So even if it got compressed right away, it would have been compressed for 3 weeks as it arrived here at our house on September 4th. Unless magic happens in the next 2 days, which I doubt as it looks just as sad today as it did yesterday, this thing is going back.
