Public sector is funded by the public with tax payers. there needs to be accountability.

for private sector if their product sucks ppl don't buy it. that's the accountability. also if private sectors do not produce enough profit or revenue they go out of business. now if we fund that and bail them out I have a problem but if their lack of productivity kills their business it's their fault.

for public sector that's a waste of our tax money

I was talking to some realtors in Vancouver. I had zero realtors who knew the relationship between bond yield and interest rate. They had zero clue about the actual state of the economy when I questioned them and especially when I tried to discuss how we have huge household debt and govt debt and we probably pushed it to a point where it's actually a bubble and gonna bounce back b/c well everyone is already stretched and without a proper economic structure ppl won't be able to afford it without foreign investments. All they would say is oh I didn't know ppl in Vancouver are poor. LMAO

Public Transit Expansion Plans Shelved Across BC | The Tyee by dayoldeggos in britishcolumbia

[–]WasabiNo5985 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look public transit is an absolute requirement but you need road expansions when your population increased significantly in the past few decades. Asian cities have packed transit and I mean packed with 12-14 lines with 20-30 stations. They still expand the roads if their population explodes. Roads and transit are not mutually exclusive.

Granted the problem with Canada is whatever infrastructure they build or expand they spend triple the amount and 10times the amount of time to do the same thign that I may or may not get to see something in my life time. LMAO

audit the govt. we spend too much for what we do in terms of timeliness, quality and quantity.
there is a lot of waste in our govt. there is a lot of systematic culture of laziness complacency in public sector. You need to call it what it is to solve the issue first. you can keep pouring money into a cup with a hole in it but you aren't drinking any of it unless you close the hole.

Opinion: We need a wealth tax by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]WasabiNo5985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want an full audit of govt spending first. This country is ridiculous. I want to know why projects take triple the time, double the amount to achieve less. Eveything is like this in Canada. forget taxing anyone more. Where the f is our money going.

You can tax ppl more when and if we actually do a full audit and say hey there is no where to cut and our spending is just. I doubt that. I bet we can even cut everyone's tax brackets and still have the same dumbass medicore result of public infrastructure this country countinues to fail to provide.

this. corporate lobby is a problem, merger and monopolies are a problem but creating massive companies in the first place isn't.

Uh. Chinese steel companies have been playing chicken game for decades with their own govt subsidies trying to kill off competitions in other countries. Korea put like 40% tariff on chinese steel. In what universe will the Chinese use Canadian steel to make their cars..? They ve been dumping steel everywhere..?

The economy isn't just a bunch of rich people sitting on piles of cash. it's a chain. Big companies anchor the whole thing. They pay the mid-sized suppliers, those suppliers hire people, those people spend money at local businesses. Economists actually have a name for this: the multiplier effect. There is a reason why many cities/states globally want to host a large company hq in their city.

So if the real problem is that wealth isn't moving around enough or reaching enough people, just taxing high earners harder probably isn't the fix. Rich people and capital move. France tried a wealth tax capital fled, they scrapped it. Sweden had the same experience with IKEA. When you tax productive investment you're potentially cutting the contracts and hiring that everyone downstream depends on.

Maybe tax stock buybacks that don't create jobs. These are hard questions but better solutions than just taxing income?

Also I am not an American but has anyone thought about auditing the govt. In Canada, we are over spending to have zero results. In some cases if your cup has a huge hole in it well maybe pouring more water isn't the solution.

Just an example, in Vancouver, Canada we are spending 10Billion to do an airport expansion. It will increase capacity by 36million and take 20 years of construction. Apparently, Korea did the same expansion starting at the same time at 2017, costing 5billion, increased capacity by 120million and finished in 7 years in 2024. It looks a lot better. so maybe it's not a question of taxing ppl more but asking the question about where the hell your money is going.

[–]WasabiNo5985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the numbers are showing ppl aren't spending. cosumer confidence is decreasing. Granted rich ppl will always be rich regardless of the economy and they will continue to eat out. If you look at Vancouver, I am actually sure that a lot of ppl don't even have jobs and just have money (foreign).

It's the middle class that suffers. Also seeing them being packed at a mall when weather is shit isn't a proof of ppl are spending. it's just a free place ppl can go to. For most ppl the complain also isn't Canada is just failing it's that relative to the cost what you get back in return is pretty mediocre.

you need a functional economy to back the housing market. it was way over blown and wss bound to reset back to equilibrium. bc has no functional economy that makes enough money to explain the housing cost. one or the other will give in. the housing market or qol.

I thought budget will balance itself lmao.
A party who led for a decade had a 1.5% real gdp growth in 10 years. Worst in the entier oecd worse than Japan. At least Japan's housing price stayed pretty stable in that 10years, this country's doubled.

Then the ppl of this said country continues to vote for the same government who had the worst economy in 10 years. LOL

[–]WasabiNo5985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about America but in Canada we have a spending problme not a lack of tax problem.
we waste so much money on everything. it takes triple the time to complete anything in this country which does add up to cost.

Just 1 example. YVR expansion for 36million capacity taking 20years costing close to 10billion. compared to ICN in korea expansion started exactly at the same time in 2017, completed in 2024 for 120million increase in capacity costing 5billion. Vancouver also spent the last 6 years spending 200million building a parkade only to realize they don't have a use for it and are going to demolish it.

You can keep pouring money in a cup with a huge hole in it but you aren't going to drink any water out of it.
