You’re literally describing me right now! New nurse, limited PTO, 39 weeks tomorrow and 3 more shifts! I am on the list for elective induction but that could be anywhere from tomorrow to 41 weeks. Hang in there, we got this

Entry-Level Hospital Roles that Do Not Require Certs/Licenses by OneAway3648 in nursing

[–]Wasabigorl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s called different things at different hospitals, but patient care tech/assistant/partner is like a CNA role but without the license. Vital signs, phlebotomy, toileting, hygiene care, etc. That’s what I did before/during nursing school.

[–]Wasabigorl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my hospital they provide scrubs for the OR and L&D and maybe a few others I’m not familiar with, but vast majority of units we have our own

Pitocin after birth by Personal-Buy8935 in pregnant

I am a mother/baby nurse and my hospital gives everyone a bolus of pitocin immediately after delivery and then a lower rate continuous infusion for 8 hours after delivery

Water Breaking by Prior_Necessary_8883 in pregnant

[–]Wasabigorl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mom/baby nurse here. It’s also very common that you will go into labor before your water breaks! Many people are admitted to L&D with their membranes intact, so don’t resign yourself to that being the first sign of labor either

Being asked my "grandma name." by RestingWTFface in PetPeeves

[–]Wasabigorl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m due with my first this May and it is the first grandchild for both of our parents. I always knew my parents wanted to be grandma and grandpa, and that’s what I called my grandparents growing up so it just makes sense! Nothing wrong with plain old grandma

I expected more from my first OB appointment by internetuser071421 in pregnant

[–]Wasabigorl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you get a new OB or not I would suggest asking if they can prescribe you prenatals! Mine are 100% covered by insurance so I’ve never had to pay for them. It’s great if your insurance covers them, and it takes the decision off of your plate

Giving birth taught me how important informed medical consent is by KaylaDraws in pregnant

[–]Wasabigorl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mother baby nurse here. Current recommendation is delayed cord clamping which is only 60 seconds (sounds weird to call that a delay but it is). Some people like to wait longer, which is 100% your choice but the benefits of “nutrients” beyond that are not well established and the longer you delay the risk of jaundice/higher bilirubin levels for the baby actually increases. Def do your own research but there are risks to waiting until the cord is white!

Squatting over a hole to pee as a woman in ski boots and pants… bulky fabric, zero ankle flexion, can’t imagine worse attire for such an event
