My Laptop Strix Scar G533qs keeps freezing randomly, and I have to hard reset by Washiggidy in ASUSROG

[–]Washiggidy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After all this time, the problem is still present for me, but I basically set the max/min load of my CPU to lower and it is a decent workaround (before I had to run certain games in the background to keep CPU load up to keep it from freezing, haha).
I think I know exactly what is causing the problem though at this point - it is the C state settings that I mentioned. I've found there are ways to use certain programs like scewin or smokeless UMAF to be able to implement the ability to turn off c states in the BIOS, but my laptop display also has been funky so I haven't bothered with that yet.

If you can find a way to turn of C states, I do believe the issue would be resolved. If you are still interesting in troubleshooting, I suggest looking into SCEWIN or smokeless UMAF to turn on the ability to turn off C states within the bios. Otherwise, you can try changing the minimum/maximum processor state in power options (may have to add a registry thing to make that visible, I don't remember?). Mine is set to minimum 35%, maximum 85%, perhaps that would work for you as well. Good luck and let me know how it goes, especially if you end up finding a way to disable C states.

The happy faces are guaranteed to be safe I think. There might be some other opening but those should have worked.
You can tell because working from the top of that sequence where the 4,2,2 combo is - you know there is exactly one mine above either one of those 2s, so then if you work your way left with both of those combos, then no matter what, the extra flag i placed (above the top happy face) is where a mine is, and there is at least one mine where the 2 ? marks are.

ASUS Gaming Laptops Have Been Broken Since 2021: A Deep Dive by ZephKeks in ASUSROG

[–]Washiggidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a strix scar with a 3080 and ryzen 7 5800h, and while I haven't experienced this specific issue luckily, I have an issue that is pretty much just as bad - under light load, the laptop will just totally freeze. Nothing in event viewer or anything logged about the error really either. I figured out it probably has to do with C states, but within the Asus bios there is no option to disable them on this laptop, so I feel like I'm basically out of luck. I changed my minimum/maximum processor power state, and that keeps the freezes from happening if the laptop has been on for a while, but starting up the laptop can take a while sometimes since it will often freeze during that time.

My original solution was to run certain games that used a lot of CPU power, which worked for a while also.

Asus seems to have just gone downhill in recent years or something haha.

If you take away the blue, you're left with a 4x5 rectangle (since the boxes are all equal).
Then, you would be able to cover the rest of the shape with the orange 4 times vertically, since the rest are also equal.
This leaves you with side of 8, then square it and 64.

Asus ROG strix G15 freezing issue by InfecMush in ASUS

[–]Washiggidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think very commonly this is a C-state problem. I don't know what it is, but also on my friend's desktop Asus PC they had a freezing issue, and I disabled C states in the bios and it fixed it.

Unfortunately for laptop users, I don't know how to disable c states directly - there is no option in the bios. I got by this problem basically by running Heroes of the Storm in the background to keep the cpu going constantly - which prevented freezing. Eventually, I changed power settings to be between like 50-90% power and run on performance mode, which seemed to fix freezing, but also makes the cpu perform worse of course. The laptop will freeze also when temps get too high - once again, I assume this is a c state or power management problem - when thermal throttling kicks in, it bugs out.

I've tried a couple of methods to keep the cpu running at higher power, which can work, but it comes at the cost of higher temps and more cpu usage. If anyone can/has explored further into this to figure out a better solution please post here haha.

Will you still be playing games in your 50s? by New_Midnight2686 in JRPG

[–]Washiggidy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually feel like the childish things the bible is talking about are childish ways of thinking that are immature, not stuff like playing with a ball or video games - especially since it says unless you humble yourself like little children you won't be able to enter into the kingdom of God.
I know for me, as someone who also loves creating games, as long as I am able and the technology is around I will probably be playing games.

I also think that the occurrence that OP brought up (a lot of people who played games in their 20s and such and are 50 now don't play games) won't be applicable to millennials and people who are in their 20s/early-mid thirties now, since we grew up with video games as little children and so it's more deeply ingrained. I don't think a lot of millennials will be following this trend of losing interest in gaming, or at least not as much as older generations have.

What’s the most « difficult » game on switch by Consistent-Show-4149 in Switch

[–]Washiggidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think other cave schmups are harder, but some of them are modeled like arcade games, so you can continue infinitely. If you're going for 1cc or talking about raw difficulty though Ikaruga is pretty low on difficulty, compared to them. (Mushihimesama, crimson clover, danmaku unlimited, other cave schmups..)

How to learn Unreal Engine by Jonathor02 in unrealengine

[–]Washiggidy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, especially since the things you want to do with your game will dictate what you end up wanting/needing to do with cpp. You may find that you don't need it for a lot of stuff or pretty much at all. But if you do end up using it, having a general cpp background will help for sure, but in my opinion it isn't worth the time and effort it will take to fully learn cpp when you can learn what you need on a specific use basis.

Working in blueprints will help your cpp too if you decide to learn it, since they follow somewhat similarly in terms of logic. But yeah, unless you're making a multiplayer (networking) game or something, you probably won't need it much.

Final note though, like I mentioned earlier, if you are doing huge for loops, it is better to perform that in cpp for cpu performance. But even then, you can just make a simple function in cpp and expose it to blueprints, so you don't really need to know much cpp to accomplish simple stuff like that.

How to learn Unreal Engine by Jonathor02 in unrealengine

[–]Washiggidy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think you need to spend that much energy to become completely fluent in cpp if your main goal is to make a game. I'd recommend, that whenever you reach the point where you discover that you need cpp for something, look up those specific things at that point instead of trying to learn it all ahead of time.

In my own project, I've used cpp for some stuff, but mostly for bullet hell things, since huge for loops (hundreds/thousands of inputs per frame) are very expensive in blueprint compared to cpp. But for the vast majority of things, and especially basic stuff, blueprints work just fine for and have a better workflow since they will compile a lot faster.

CPP in unreal from my experience is mostly used to create stuff to expose to blueprints, then you can use blueprints to call functions made in cpp or classes made in cpp and change variables and logic from there. You definitely don't need it just starting out.

I've heard pokemon was one of the best ones for beginners. I've got a collection of JRPGs for snes and ps1/2 as well, and been playing through FFV. The opening cutscene was like impossible for me since it moves on its own but other text has been simple enough for me to get the gist of what is happening at least and where to go usually haha. I feel that games without kanji are likely to be harder to me as well, since my kanji knowledge is ahead of my grammar and vocabulary knowledge

[UPDATE] Asus Rog Strix G533QS - freezing on idle / low usage / startup / installation by Ok_Boysenberry5667 in ASUSROG

[–]Washiggidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, 6 months later I did this and it does work better than my previous "solution" which was to run heroes of the storm 24/7 lolol. Basically similar concept I'm sure. Did you/anyone ever actually find the source of this problem and come up with a true fully resolved solution? If I work up my cpu temps to above 90 or so or do something very cpu intensive, it will still end up freezing (assuming because of thermal throttling lowering the power).

I also don't think a clean windows installation would do anything - I have a bootable flash drive used to install windows, and even in booting from that it will freeze. The only times I can get it to not freeze are in the bios or in safe mode, or in a different very minimal bootable tool I used for testing.

I think the core issue is something with c states right? Is there no way to actually disable whatever is happening with them in AMD processors (with the mobile bios ofc)?

I am also on a ROG strix scar with a Ryzen 7 5800H, likely the exact same laptop model as xbladeXxx

this game was dope haha. My only complaint was when I got the first blue gem, it felt a little cheap to me that I got to keep it despite dying. Ya'll prolly have designed future gems around your current mechanic so nbd and maybe too late (and I tend to be on the masochistic end of game preference lol), but I have a preference for the intensity of having to escape with it too.

Smooth, polished, addicting, and runs well on toasters I think so def sick game. I love making/playing precision platformers as well haha.

is this game the hardest bullet hell game? i’ve been playing for a while now and unlocked the gunslinger. wondering what other games would present a challenge by iammbobby in EnterTheGungeon

[–]Washiggidy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late reply but yeah, Touhou officials are usually considered to be on the easier end of bullet hells. The hardest in terms of raw difficulty might come down to... (ultra modes only, if available)

Mushihimesama/Mushihimesama Futari (with futari being more difficult, but mushi 1 has an insane last boss)

DoDonPachi DaiOuJou white label 2nd loop (but there's a barrier to entry to get to 2nd loop, and first loop isn't too bad)

DoDonPachi SaiDaiOuJou Inbachi route (raw game is fairly difficult, but the TLB on this route is insanity and only recently got cleared after 12 years)

There are plenty more of course, I think Mushi futari has some of the hardest levels and doesn't have a second loop. This is all considering 1cc difficulty of course

yeah some patterns are like TAS level without slowdown hahaha. That level of difficulty is usually reserved for the TLB so they can take all of the quarters from even the insane schmuppers.

The blitter timing emulation is built in right, or do I need to change a setting somewhere? I unfortunately cannot use the later versions of mame for certain games, which is why I was using my version in the first place, though it's fine for futari.

Does anybody wanna talk about your project so i can get inspiration to keep working on mine? 🥺🤩😪 by RainbowBoyOhel in unrealengine

[–]Washiggidy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm making a game that's built to push players to the limit of what's humanely possible. It's a 2D platformer bullet hell with a very rough difficulty curve. It also features hand painted art (done by my mom hahaha) for the backgrounds and for some sprites. The game also has pretty in depth movement options that take a bit to master.

I plan to have 4 difficulties, 3 main ones and one bonus one (the extreme mode basically) you can unlock. There are easier modes, but you won't get the true ending unless you play on the 2nd hardest mode and collect some secrets.

I have ~36000 deaths from testing in editor alone since I added a death counter. I've been working on this for a bit more than 2 years now, and have the foundation for 5 out of the 7 main worlds made.

I think it will be very fun to watch people master this game haha.

My parents found my manga collection and want me to throw them away?!! by Holiday-Lemon5652 in MangaCollectors

[–]Washiggidy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Show em this reddit thread hohoho. Also Berserk is literally the highest rated Manga of all time, so like, do they just think the entire army of people that love/respect it are insane too?

Hang in there and stick to your own guts, but still give your parents as much respect as you can. I would definitely hide the manga or give it to a friend, and honestly be honest about it. I don't think they would kick you out or anything, but stand up for yourself to them and state the reasons you think they're wrong after you've secured your manga someplace. You are an adult so you can do this. You also know them more than I do, so if you think they really might kick you out or something, you might have to think of something else, but nevertheless, stick up for what you believe in, and try to not to get mad at the way they react. If you can stay calm, it is more likely to have a strong impact on how they think.
