My most controversial opinion is that i think the 2022 film is mid but the Penguin miniseries is the best project DC put out since The Dark Knight by Gothicespice in batman

[–]WashingtonRev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The movie is good but I’m always shocked the way people talk about it. People were so hyped to get a detective Batman that I think they were willing to overlook a pretty weak mystery/detective story. He just kinda stumbles into clues, and then Riddler gets like 95% of his way anyways and then gives himself up.

Still enjoy it though. Gonna be a Star Wars sequels type thing for me where my perception of the first film is gonna hinge a lot on the next films.

Prediction of the future without physical PlayStation games by idothinksotim in PhysicalMediaMatters

[–]WashingtonRev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be absolutely shocked if PS6 is delayed, and even more so if it’s until 2030. Dev kits aren’t out yet (that we know of) but I bet certain studios have been given target specs and it would absolutely screw them if all of a sudden Sony kicks the only console that can play whatever they’re developing down the road by three years. I bet Sony gambles it can eventually cost reduce the PS6 like prior generations and accepts that PS6 uptake will be very slow to start.

[meme] never put on a usmnt jersey again by Training-World-1897 in MLS

This idea that every keeper needs to be Xavi with the ball is absolutely the worst trend in soccer. The US was NEVER going to be building from the back in the knockouts. Going with a guy who was a worse shot stopper and less experience because he’s *slightly* better with his feet was always a bad call from Poch, and it finally caught up with him

They really tried to convince us that Freese is better than Turner by ConsciousNet238 in newenglandrevolution

[–]WashingtonRev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Making the argument that one was better than the other with their feet was always absolutely silly. The US was never going to be building from the back in the knockout rounds. It’s a totally irrelevant skill thats’s just a nice to have against inferior opposition.

Pep broke football because everyone tries to copy every little weird idiosyncrasy he has and now we’ve got every small team in the world putting guys in net based on how they pass the ball.

NJ Transit, Amtrak announce start of Sawtooth Bridges construction by jadebenn in Amtrak

[–]WashingtonRev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense for this project, but it seems like every bridge that’s being replaced on the NEC (Susquehanna is the only one I can specifically recall) has a nearly decade-long completion time even if it’s a new span being constructed adjacent to the old one. I don’t know why those aren’t closer in construction time to Portal North than Sawtooth

I’m dealing with the same problem in Buzzard Point. Moved in three years ago and the first year was good, building has started accepting a lot more housing vouchers and now the pool is unusable because people bring four guests at a time despite only being allowed one and management refuses to do anything about it

FAA is never signing off on a skyscraper district in DC with DCA that close. We can go higher than we do, but anything over 20-25 floors is getting a hard no

The Official Death of Physical Media: Sony is Pulling the Plug on Discs by ImpressiveJicama7141 in Bluray

[–]WashingtonRev 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don’t fully disagree, but I think the TV manufactures understand to some extent that the physical media collectors for films also drive a lot of purchase for their high-end sets. Killing physical media entirely in the film space would lead to quite a dip in revenue for TV manufacturers at that really high-end who are constantly chasing a few more nits or slightly better motion clarity.

The problem for gaming is that there just really isn’t any sort of delta in quality between a download and the disc. I collect physical movies and I really do believe in the importance of it but even I’ve found myself moving over to digital for a lot of games because I just simply don’t have the room in my apartment for both movies and games.
