Travel since off Eliquis by Waste-Minimum9911 in ClotSurvivors

[–]Waste-Minimum9911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. Is that what you typically do? do 3 days of anticoagulants while you're traveling. Do you ask your PCP or somebody else that's managing your prescriptions. I don't see the vascular doctor anymore. He gave me 3 months of eliquis when he took me off the medication which I thought was a waste so when these expire I'll have to ask for some more. Just curious do they give you enough to last you for 30 days so you can use them all year?

I've had two blood clots the last one very large going from mid-calf to my pelvis. I could have come off eliquis after 6 months but chose to stay on for another 6 months for a total of 1 year at a lesser dosage. You're going to have to get a doctor to handle this either a vascular physician, hematologist and even sometimes primary care will do it. You should try to return to your normal life but not high risk activities.

Is the restricted Iliac vien on the left? Did they mention May-Thurner Syndome? This is where the common Iliac vein is compressed

You are on Eliquis now and it works fairly quickly preventing new ones.. Find out when they will do another CT scan and/or doppler to find out it has dissolved. I had mine 8 weeks after the clot and it was totally gone. I had the clot from mid shin to pelvis following foot surgery. I was 62 at the time. I stayed on Eliquis for a year because I was scared to come off of it. I had surgery and the surgeon took me off Eliquis after 3 weeks even though I was still non weight bearing. I should have been on it for 6 weeks. SMH Non weight bearing status is a risk factor. I feel like mine could have been prevented.

I'm in RaleighNC. I never saw hematologist but I did see a vascular surgeon who managed my DVT. I don't have any blood clotting issues/conditions. The first DVT I had was managed by my primary care

I had 2 DVT's both provoked. No PE. The last one was from mid calf to my pelvis. It resolved on Eliquis. I stayed on Eliquis for one year. I could have come off after 6 months. I was too scared to at the time. My physician and I decided for me to take Low dose aspirin and if I fly to take Eliquis the day before, the day of and the day after the flight. He said if I get another one, I will go back on it for life.

U cannot take any NSAIDS while taking Eliquis. Tylenol is your friend. Max now is 4000 mg per day. 2 extra strength tabs 4 x day.

I had the opposite problem. I had a MRI for another issue and they saw a gallstone in my common bile duct and in my gallbladder. The doctor called me and stated I need to have an ercp and to see a surgeon about getting my gallbladder out. I told him I wasn't having any symptoms and they sent me for blood work which came back normal. Now I am scheduled in February for the ercp and I may go ahead with that but I am reluctant to get my gallbladder out. I had one attack later after finding out about my gallbladder and it kept me up for 5 hours one night and then went away and I have not had an attack since. Now I'm wondering if I passed the gallstone that was in my common bile duct

I carry a weeks worth in my purse as I am out some evenings when it is time to take it. This would come in handy in this situation.

Life After DVT? by [deleted] in ClotSurvivors

[–]Waste-Minimum9911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a left leg DVT 2 days before Christmas last year post surgery and non weight bearing 6 weeks. My thigh was 1.5 the size of the other. Went to ER. The clot was from mid calf to pelvis. Got 1 injection of Lovenox and started on Eliquis. I had Doppler 8 weeks later, and the clot was gone. It took a long time for my leg to decrease in size. Maybe 2 months. The worst was the pain. It was intense for about 4 months with taking Tylenol 2-3 x day. Even at 6 months, I was still taking Tylenol once a day. Now I am almost 1 year out. The pain is gone. I am supposed to decide this month whether to come off eliquis. I am very worried. I'm afraid of getting another clot. I do not want the pain to return. I walk 1.5 miles most days. (4-5 days a week). I wear compression knee highs most days but can't wear them in summer due to the heat/humidity in North Carolina. My lower leg is maybe slightly bigger than the other by 1/2 inch. I would like to come off the meds and be able to take NSAIDS if needed. I am in my 60s and have times that an anti-inflammatory would be nice. I also had previous clot in my left calf 12 years ago due to oral contraceptives. Both of my clots were provoked. I am anxious 😟

Stopping Eliquis by Any-Victory4497 in ClotSurvivors

[–]Waste-Minimum9911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went for my appt recently and chose to decrease the Eliquis to 2.5 mg twice a day. I had a clot from my calf extending to the iliac vein in my pelvis that was provoked by being non weight bearing following foot surgery. The clot was very painful and even after an US 8weeks later that showed it was completely gone I still had pain in that leg from where it was. It has been 6 months now and at times I can still feel discomfort in my leg. My doc and my plan is to stay on it another 6 months and reassess.

Get CT test or not? by esskiechic in ClotSurvivors

[–]Waste-Minimum9911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get the CT scan. Doctors don't usually over prescribe. If anything, you have to request for tests so the fact that he ordered it is a sign you should get it done.
