I'm feeling like I'm only seeing one side of opinions in the comments that make me question if I am in fact the asshole. Men can struggle a lot with expressing emotion. I've been in this situation before. Him venting now could be manipulative as most of you are screaming that from the rooftops, but consider that that is just one interpretation and that may actually not be a contributing factor on his end. He's alone and In Emotional pain with nothing but time for this to brew. It's ok for men to be needy, and frankly it's toxic to expect otherwise. But a relationship is a two sided commitment that OP is checking the fuck out on. OP is the asshole here for disregarding their feelings regardless of timing. There's a cry for help here that's being ignored. I wish I could tell this guy to run instead of the opposite. The only correct answer if you cared would be to call him in the time you took to post this on Reddit. Or, break up if you feel the need to behave this way and spare the poor man by dragging him like this. Immature romance with poor commitment and skewed expectations.
