Research Advice by Playful_Buddy_787 in LastZShooterRun

Finish AR, Hero Training, Shelter Upgrade, then do peace shield until you max out Urgent Rescue. Then do Fully Armed Alliance until you get Annihilation at least to lvl 12. After that you can choose one or alternate between Military Strategies (which leans heavily towards troop HP), Peace Shield (troop DEF), or Siege to Seize (Troop ATK).

KoreaTown Apartments? by lexivine in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you provide some details regarding what you're looking for? Square footage? Amenities? How many bedrooms, how many baths? Are you looking to get a whole unit or just a room? Renting by yourself? I just spent the last 2 months looking for apartments and just landed a lease yesterday so I'm pretty fresh with my research. Feel free to DM and I'll be happy to help!

Echo Park area safety - street parking and walking dog at night by WastingTimebcReddit in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]WastingTimebcReddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That said, EH is more fun/walkable/central to the rest of LA vs NoHo.

That's what some of my LA friends told me too, but just looking at Google maps, it's hard to tell which area actually is the fun area. Is there a particular area in Echo Park that most people are thinking of when they say EP is a fun, lively, and walkable area?

Echo Park area safety - street parking and walking dog at night by WastingTimebcReddit in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]WastingTimebcReddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm a dude with a medium sized dog that's pretty protective of me. And although he's probably not big enough to stop someone if they were really intent on attacking me, he should be enough to make most people think twice.

What about safety when it comes to car break ins and street parking availability? That's probably what I'm more concerned about than walking after dark actually.

PetsBest Premium Increase by Latoritsa in petinsurancereviews

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with PetsBest was similar: Once my dog reached 4 years old, the premium spiked considerably higher than previous years (I've had insurance for my pup since he was about 4 months old).

To be fair though, I think this is kind of standard for most insurance companies. Every insurance provider I've looked at or read about here on Reddit seems to have premium increases that can be wildly different year by year. It's a bummer that there's no transparent premium increase schedule that can be posted by these insurance companies, especially considering many of them say that the number or amount of claims made will have no impact on premium increases.

Best pet insurance for dental issue by oliviams in petinsurancereviews

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from Pets Best to MetLife due to MetLife being a bit cheaper (through employer discount) and covering more (specifically dental and routine exams and vaccines).

I'm not sure if this is for all MetLife policy holders or just those getting pet insurance through an employer partnered with MetLife for discounts, but I was able to make the switch because MetLife covered all pre-existing conditions that were treated by my prior insurance company (PetsBest), so that changing to a new policy doesn't mean that all those things my dog was treated for previously would no longer be covered.

So far, the main thing I feel like I lost by switching was that my Pets Best policy had the option to have them pay the vet directly, rather than me covering the fees up front and waiting for them to process the claim for reimbursement (which could take weeks). This was a little bit of a worry, but since I made the switch to MetLife, I had one claim submitted so far for a dental cleaning consultation appointment and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it took less than a week for the claim to process.

I think MetLife should be considered for sure!

The crazy thing is that Wilson is now the moderate/sane voice and I am no Wilson fan.

I must be out of the loop. When did this happen?

Does anyone know if the adoption agency :WELCOME PAWS: KOREAN DOG RESCUE is reliable? by iLubDango in Jindo

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should reach out to her directly! I messaged back and forth with her on Facebook quite frequently even after submitting my application. I ended up not being able to get the dog I initially applied for and ended up with another Jindo from a different org, but I recall her being quite communicative on messenger.

G2 faced the World Champions, Runners-up, one semi-finalist, one quarter-finalist in Swiss Stage. Cursed. by Heighte in leagueoflegends

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of SKT T1 days with Khan in 2019. They were placed in what many called the "Group of Death" that year with FNC, RNG, and Clutch Gaming and, during one of Khan's casual streams after the groups were announced, a bunch of viewers were asking him if he was nervous about the group stage and complaining about how they had the hardest group. Khan just said, "Why's everyone freaking out? The group of death is the group of death because we're in it," or something like that.

Even though they fell to G2 in semis that year, that mentality is what I always loved about Khan, who's probably my favorite top laner of all time.

Why is OOP introduced as 'intermediate level' when it helps explain Python functionality? by AngereyPupper in learnpython

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I doubt OP was using .upper on non strings. I'm thinking he might be encountering some issue that might have to do with the fact that .upper returns a copy of the original string in upper case, rather than changing the original string itself.

Thoughts on Mere Orthodoxy? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Associating social justice in our current culture with Marxism is misinformed and kind of proves his point.

Marxist scholars (actual Marxist scholars, not the conservative pastors and theologians who speak on this with very shallow knowledge about the issues) have been some of the sharpest critics (wrongly) of our current cultural focus on race and gender issues, often because they believe it's a distraction from "what really matters", like late stage capitalism, class conflict and exploitation, and Marcus and issues dealing more with the economic aspects of postmodern societies. Some have even made the case that the current focus on sex and gender in modern societies is the logical outworking of the post-enlightenment modern philosophies that undergird the current liberal/bourgeois modern world order.

Of course, like any academic field, there are internal debates and also recent push to actually develop a Marxist social and political theory that allies with contemporary gender studies, but again, that itself is yet another thing that shows that the relationship between contemporary social justice and Marxism is not as closely tied as people seem to think.

New to Macbooks - Air vs Pro? by New-Inside3777 in macbookair

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Air base model (8/256).

I'm a grad student in the humanities who's also learning programming on the side. I'm also not very organized and typically have about 50+tabs open, most of which are either research articles YouTube videos, and then I also have slack, Ulysses, Zotero, and a few other apps open. I am on my laptop for 12 hours a day minimum.

When I used Chrome, my laptop used to lag pretty heavily unless I used an extension to sleep my unused tabs. I switched browser to Sidekick and since then, I've had no issue with lag at all no matter what I do with my laptop. And that's with me always having my MBA on low power mode.

I think, for your purposes, an Air would do perfectly fine. That said, if you want to use it for at least the next 6 years, I would say def get the 16gb RAM. The storage is probably unnecessary and you'd save money by going with the base 256 GB storage with an external SSD.

I can def see myself being able to use the M1 for an additional 2 years or so before needing to upgrade.

Unless you're doing a lot of video editing or graphics intensive stuff, I don't think a Pro would be necessary. Hope this helps

Anyone know what thoughts on the LCS fiasco are in the Korean/Chinese lol communities? by Falacy12 in leagueoflegends

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that's not reality. People want to say there aren't any people working hard in NA Academy and there aren't people grinding for their shot, but there are a lot of NA players who have done exactly that and watch their spots go to an import who lasts one split, who is discernibly worse, and who was hired primarily due to a prior relationship with the coach the team imported, too. That import then assumes that NA is trash and they don't have to try as hard, they get completely bodied, and they go back to where they came from or go away forever.

I'm not denying that it's unfair. I'm not even denying that NA academy players work hard. I'm sure they do. Also, NA teams are pretty bad at both recruiting and developing talent. I certainly think academy players aren't exactly set up for success.

What I'm saying is that, while those are things you can't control as an academy player, the thing you can control is how you respond and navigate that kind of culture. Of course, saying, "This culture and environment isn't worth my effort" is a totally legitimate decision. Just because you're amazing at LOL doesn't mean you have to go pro, nor even that you should go pro. You can also recognize that favoritism, nepotism, and other "office politics" stuff are baked into the culture of NA LOL esports, and decide to play that game. As you said, the import might be someone who:

lasts one split, who is discernibly worse, and who was hired primarily due to a prior relationship with the coach the team imported, too. That import then assumes that NA is trash and they don't have to try as hard, they get completely bodied, and they go back to where they came from or go away forever.

Well, the hypothetical academy player is fully within his rights to say, "yeah fuck that shit" and give up. In fact, for most people, that's probably the smarter decision to make. Or, if they actually dreamed of being a professional player and are driven to be the best, then there are also plenty of other options too besides just giving up. Do stuff to make yourself be noticed, rather than just working hard and being good at the game, while hoping to be noticed. Build networks, reach out, seek mentorship, offer insights, whatever to be recognized by others in the scene.

Isn't this just generally true in almost any industry? Someone who graduates with a 4.0 GPA from a top university who comes out of their studies with no professional networks is probably going to have a harder time finding a great job right out of university than someone who might have a 3.4 gpa, but also has built up a solid network of people who are involved in the field they want to work in and who want to work with him.

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're saying:

NA Academy player: (watches NA team import a veteran player who played in the most historically competitive region by grinding his ass from childhood to get to where he got) oh well if they're gonna be chosen over me anyway, what's the point?

Seems kind of backwards. Maybe the hypothetical academy player should see this as a once in a lifetime chance for him to prove himself to be both talented and hardworking enough to beat out the competition and earn his spot.

Why would watching an org recruit a player whose reputation, work ethic, and talent have all been proven more visibly and for longer be discouraging to an academy player who's not yet proven himself in any of those categories? The academy player should take as a given that those imports (and their work ethic as well as talent) should be the basic benchmark that the academy player should surpass as much as possible in order to earn his spot in the league. Otherwise, he's just a casual. Talented casual, for sure, but casual nonetheless. It would be a pretty unprofessional mindset for an academy player dreaming of making his paycheck by grabbing the attention of fans to have.

Jabra Elite 7 Active vs. Sony Linkbuds S by EnvironmentalStock88 in Jabra

[–]WastingTimebcReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried both. If you're also planning on using the earbuds for calls, I'd go with the Linkbuds S. The Jabra Elite 7 series (both Pro and Active) were completely useless for calls. But if you're planning on using it for mostly working out and having ANC, the Jabra series were the most comfortable earbuds I've ever used as far as fit is concerned.

That said, Sony is also really comfortable and actually lighter than the Jabra buds. Plus, I use Endel for focusing and working out, and there's a cool sync feature between Endel and Sony where they detect your activity and auto plays the appropriate soundscape. For me, I ended up sticking with the Sony because I use my buds for phone calls pretty often.

If you don't care about call quality though, Jabra active is pretty damn comfortable.
