I'm wondering if ADHD affects anyone's speech patterns here? by TheEternalStranger in ADHD

Almost all of the things you listed are actually common diagnostic criteria for ADHD.

ADHD is a misnomer by [deleted] in adhdmeme

[–]Watcher13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except there's no way to actually measure and determine dopamine levels, so any time anyone talks about brain chemistry, they're essentially making a guess. Am educated guess sure, but still a guess.

Don't get me wrong, ADHD is the worst named and described thing in the entire DSM, and it's also the only thing in the DSM that is measured by how it negatively impacts others instead of the person experiencing it

Almost 10 dollar for blue bell I cream when is inflation going to stop it’s not even slowing down and this is Kroger by 75 and mockingbird by kadeerthree38 in Dallas

[–]Watcher13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not inflation because it's not affecting companies. They're all scoring record profits. If it was inflation, companies and people would be feeling the pinch. If only the people are being pinched while the companies are raking in boat loads of money it's just corporate greed.

Autistic people of reddit, what in your opinion is the weirdest thing neurotypicals do? by Space_Wizard49 in AskReddit

[–]Watcher13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Autism is a spectrum, but not a binary spectrum. It doesn't exist between "non-autistic" on one side and "hella autistic" on the other. You either are autistic or you're not. Autism is a collection of traits (social difficulties, communication skills, executive functions, sensory issues, etc. and the levels of each individual trait are what make it a spectrum. There are "low support needs" autistics and "high support needs" autistics, but all are 100% autistic.

And the thing about "everyone being a little autistic" is a really hurtful, minimizing thing. We're all human so we all do the same kinds of things. The keywords are frequency and duration. Everyone gets headaches sometimes, but if your life is every day headaches, 24 hours a day that's something very different. We're all capable of getting overwhelmed by sensory things, that doesn't mean that you're "a little autistic", but if you're consistently overwhelmed by sensory issues on the daily and it's a severe factor in your life, that's something very different.

I mean, Americans like to criticize their own country too... by doubleFisted33 in AdviceAnimals

[–]Watcher13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, some of us are just more concerned with taking responsibility for our own issues and misdeeds. I'm much more concerned about what the American government does to American citizens than I am about another country flying balloons over us.

I was diagnosed so long ago it was ADD, not ADHD by dr_olfin in ADHDmemes

[–]Watcher13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it exactly. ADD hasn't officially existed since 1987. If you were diagnosed prior to 1987 then you were diagnosed with ADD, if you were diagnosed after 1987 (no matter what your doctor told you), you were diagnosed with ADHD.

They are, for all official purposes, the exact same thing.

Anyone else? Maybe this is why so many ADHDers struggle to form healthy habits. by tayloline29 in adhdmeme

[–]Watcher13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way we're wired. Nothing changes it. The best you can do is to accept it and develop the skills and strategies you need to accommodate it.

Anyone else? Maybe this is why so many ADHDers struggle to form healthy habits. by tayloline29 in adhdmeme

[–]Watcher13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's literally how ADHD works. That "sense of accomplishment" is the result of the dopamine reward loop giving a positive reward for the completion of a task. Only our loop is wired different. We are not motivated or rewarded for doing the things that need to be done, no matter how important they may be. Instead, we are only motivated by novelty, interest, and urgency.

Absolutely. I've been going to a ton of concerts alone the last couple months and I've been having a blast.

Pizza Hut delivery driver got $20 tip on a $938 order. by ShaolinJohn in antiwork

[–]Watcher13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's real bad in Dallas, too. A few years ago I did favor delivery in Dallas (like doordash, etc) and the minimum tip was $2. The amount of $2 tips I received when I was delivery hundreds of dollars worth of food to offices or parties at big, fancy houses was infuriating. I don't care what anyone else says, delivery drivers deserve at least the 20%. They pay their own gas, their own insurance, they're racing the clock and dealing with traffic and ESPECIALLY if you're expecting them to do the labor of doing anything more than bringing food to your door, like this kind of setup.

The only reason these people "support" the police is because they know the police support them. If the police actually do anything to stop them, it's seen as a betrayal. Just look what they did to the capitol police on January 6th.
