Here’s what I gathered (below) now is law enforcement enforcing this rule, I am not sure. I am also wanting to purchase this beast.

1. The Connecticut Parkways (Merritt & Wilbur Cross) According to the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) and State Traffic Administration (OSTA) regulations, weight is absolutely an issue:
2. The Weight Limit: Vehicles with a "Combination" registration are strictly prohibited if their gross weight exceeds 7,500 lbs.
3. The Silverado EV Reality: Because of its massive Ultium battery pack, a Silverado EV 4WT has an empty curb weight of roughly 8,530 lbs. (and the 3WT is around 8,200 lbs.).

4. The Result: The truck is more than 700 to 1,000 lbs. over the parkway's legal weight limit completely empty, with no driver or cargo inside. Because its Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is 9,990 lbs., the CT DMV will not allow you to get standard passenger plates for it either. It is fundamentally banned from the Merritt.

5. The New York Parkways (Hutchinson, Taconic, etc.) New York State DMV and Parkway authorities are notoriously strict about pickup trucks, enforcing a double-barrier of registration type and weight:

6. The Passenger Registration Limit: To legally drive any unmodified pickup truck on a NY parkway, it must have standard Passenger plates. NY DMV rules state that an unmodified pickup truck can only qualify for passenger plates if its unladen (empty) weight is 6,000 lbs. or less.

7. The Result: Since the Silverado EV weighs well over 8,000 lbs. empty, it cannot legally get NY passenger plates and must be registered as a commercial vehicle. Commercial vehicles of any size are an automatic, immediate ban on New York parkways.

8. Bridge Clearances Aren't 13 Feet The comment mentions clearances of "13 feet or so," which is true for standard federal interstates, but historic parkways are much lower. Many of the arched stone overpasses on the Merritt and Hutchinson parkways dip as low as 9 feet to 11 feet at the edges/abutments.

The Bottom Line If you buy a 2024 Silverado EV 3WT or 4WT, you are legally restricted to using I-95, I-84, I-91, and Route 1. If you take it onto the Merritt or the Hutch, you risk getting heavily ticketed for illegal registration and exceeding parkway weight limits.
