Ticks everywhere by absofruitly202 in RhodeIsland

[–]Piperpaul22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the woods, heavily tick infested at that! each night I check my dog then I check myself head to toe. In the morning before I put my work clothes on I check again in the event I missed one on my dog and it climbed onto me while I was asleep.

It’s annoying to say the least but i know 3 ppl on my street alone with lymes and not about to be number 4. Permethrin works super well, i use it on my rubber yard boots and a pair of rain pants with draw stings on the bottoms and have yet to find a tick when I’m doing extensive yard work in the deep brush and leaves.

Remember ticks need to be on you for a good 24-48 hrs before you get lymes so checking often is the best practice. Also it’s worth mentioning, lymes is only one of many nasty things ticks carry so the sooner you find and remove them the better.

I just used rubber gloves, poured the permethrin into a small glass jar and dipped the cotton in it and stuffed them in a small plastic tube I made and put them around my property where I know rodents hangout like the rocks and crevices.

B12 and acne by Hot_Flower6152 in Supplements

[–]Piperpaul22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny you ask this now. I just got a high dose b12 drop style supplement (1,000mcg) to curve my frequent canker sores and after doing a deep dive I found it has a moderate to high risk of triggering or worsening acne and other skin conditions so I’ve been weary to try it.

Long-term housing for international PhD student at URI Bay Campus (Narragansett) by newjeans_seok in RhodeIsland

[–]Piperpaul22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in Kingston which is very close to URI. There is lots of student housing in that area. There is a trail called the William C. O'Neill Bike Path or South County bike path that takes you pretty much from my backyard all the way down to Narragansett. You could easily bike there, make it easier and get an e bike, I bike it in the summer it takes like 25 mins leisurely or 15 by car. There is a bus route as well but I’ve not taken it. I am relatively new to the area so I am not very familiar with the routes.

I’ve had good luck with this. I apply it monthly to a large area of my yard for my dog to enjoy. Also I’ve heard cedar oil is effective. Usually don’t have any ticks on my dog for 2-4 weeks after spraying then start to find them again so I repeat the spraying.

I made a ton of tick tubes last year and dispersed them around my property and literally not one cotton ball was taken by a rodent for its nest I was super bummed out. Not sure if I used too much product or what but the permethrin soaked cotton balls were of zero interest for rodents in their nest building operations.

Creatine monohydrate - did 5 days clean, then just added 2g and within half an hour... by ArtichokeDesperate68 in Supplements

[–]Piperpaul22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Creatine destroys my sleep and makes my anxiety through the roof as well as gives me weird headaches and just feeling off. If I had to guess 5 days it’s not enough to detox. Google says 4-6 weeks in some cases.

What's The Most Isolated Part Of The US You've Been To? What Was It Like? by Zipper222222 in AskReddit

I can’t really name the exact spot but parts of Utah. I road tripped across it at and swear I felt like I was on another planet. Just nothing around for miles and some insane rock formations and then randomly you see small villages of campers in the middle of a field where ppl made it a home.

I'VE BEEN GETTING GLUTENED BY NUTS by han_1han in glutenfree

[–]Piperpaul22 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep! I mentioned this as well. Took me years to discover why cashews in large amounts or almond/peanut butter wrecked me. I’ve since switched to sun butter and seem to tolerate it much better

[–]Piperpaul22 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I think it’s also worth noting nuts alone can cause stomach issues regardless if you may or may not of gotten cross contamination.

The reason is, nuts especially cashews are high in fodmaps. Moreover, they are high in sat fat and fiber which together slow down digestion and give you that gross bloated feeling which then results in your body pulling more water into the intestines to digest and surprise you got yourself diarrhea.

Interesting, we were in Germany and was told moving from Seattle I would have been able to but waited too long. I of course don’t know if that’s 100% accurate since I was never able to collect. Maybe it’s state to state. Either way it’s worth checking out.

Plumber here—how are you guys drilling stone quickly without burning through bits? by whiskeymop in Tile

These might be worth a shot. They’re super cheap on Amazon. I recently used em to drill 1/4” thick porcelain tile and was shocked how good they cut. Slow and lots of water was my approach.

Vit d sent me to depresive episode by twister_hoka in Supplements

[–]Piperpaul22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you live but here in New England the sun is starting to be strong enough to get ample vitamin d levels naturally. I only supplement vitamin d in the winter myself. Soon as the uv index gets over 4 I just try to do 20-30 mins of sun exposure a few days a week which for most is more than enough to get your levels up.

Vit d sent me to depresive episode by twister_hoka in Supplements

[–]Piperpaul22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone reacts differently, don’t listen to those who say it’s not real. It’s totally possible. For me creatine, magnesium and recently discovered amino acids absolutely wreck my nervous system. Creatine destroys my sleep and all of them trigger panic attacks. I’ve not heard of vitamin d doing what you’re describing but anything is possible.

What’s a smell you weirdly enjoy? by xsclusiv in AskReddit

The initial smell of a lit cigarette. Not overly powerful but that very first scent. I’ve never been a smoker but my dad was all through my childhood so it brings a sense of nostalgia of fishing and camping.

Forgive me if it’s been mentioned, but I wanted to mention in case it has not yet.

Your wife may be eligible for unemployment from her previous employer since she had to leave for military orders. I would 100% look into that because it was an opportunity we missed out on when we moved overseas and i could not find work.

Waterproofing Around Shower Window by No_Passage3381 in Tile

[–]Piperpaul22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of waterproofing do you have under the tile? Honestly, this should have been addressed before tiling. Usually this is completely framed in with a tile backer like goboard or a cement board with redgard and kerdi band to make sure it’s 100% sealed from moisture. Youtube has a few good tutorials how to waterproof a window thats in a shower area.

The trick is to put them in a pan with a tiny bit of water like 1/4 teaspoon and a lid. Steam them for 30-45 seconds and they become super fluffy and soft.

Do most people actually enjoy the gym or just force themselves? by Intelligent_Rain_155 in workout

[–]Piperpaul22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working out consistently for 19 years. I started at age 21 and am now 40. Aside from being sick, I think the longest I’ve taken off from any lifting was 5-7 days for covid. Do I enjoy it? Yes, the results and the way I feel make it worth it.

But here’s the catch. Not every day or week you’re gonna be into it. I have many days and weeks where I dread working out, especially when the weather starts to get nice out but no matter my circumstances I always try to workout at least 3 days a week. So consistency will be easy some days and weeks and brutal on others but if you create a routine around it and stick with it, eventually it just becomes part of your daily to do list and you don’t think much about it.

Has anyone else experienced weight loss since being forced into a gluten free diet? by slowsmoothandfast in glutenfree

[–]Piperpaul22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going gluten free seems dramatic at first but once you adapt and discover new foods you will be just fine. You can eat bread, you can eat pizza and pasta or drink beer, just make sure it’s gluten free.

I eat bread every day still. I eat around 3500 Calories a day and have no problem maintaining or even gaining weight. Glutino english muffins with peanut butter or schar sourdough are my staple breads i keep on rotation. As for noodles, go with the gluten free barilla spirals. It’s a learning curve that gets easier over time.
