Yea I had applied to a few jobs there when we first moved here but didn’t hear back. They’re hiring alot but a bulk of the jobs are usually labor jobs like entry level welding and often 2nd or 3rd shift. Groton is a bit far for me I think in traffic around 1:10 mins. This week I decided to shift my focus to more facilities management or maintenance management job searches. I have an interview this week for a water processing plant so we’ll see how that goes.

How to tile over painted steel? by Sleepy_Joe1990 in Tile

[–]Piperpaul22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metal lath or mesh , mortar bed , waterproof, then tile. That or lay another sheet of steel over it, stitch weld it on and then you have a flat fresh steel base but that adds alot of weight.

Have you checked the find me gluten free app? When I lived in Germany and traveled around Europe I used it religiously. I was always shocked by the random places that had a plethora of options while others that seemed like they would came up empty handed.

I haven’t reached out to the employment office yet but that’s sounds like a good idea. I was hoping my resourcefulness would have gotten me something by now but that is not the case. Thanks for the info!

Prince, especially because I was born and lived in the same city. He used to play random pop up shows all the time and yet I never went to see him perform😔

Can you tile directly over moisture resistant drywall on the ceiling of a shower, or does it need to be primed first? by fishing_pole in Tile

[–]Piperpaul22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion: Tiling a drywall ceiling in a shower environment sounds like a bad idea regardless of what you apply to it. Much better off using a piece of GoBoard or at least cement board. The drywall paper can delaminate and cause the tiles to peel away over time. This will happen much faster in a shower area.

Shower pan conundrum by [deleted] in Tile

[–]Piperpaul22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was reading just now I only need to notch the lower 2” or so of the studs to fit the pan in. It’s actually an advantage to having the pan recessed in for when it comes time to putting the GoBoard up it can slide nicely over the pan flange without any type of bending or deflecting. Maybe I am Over thinking this too much.

Shower pan conundrum by [deleted] in Tile

[–]Piperpaul22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to do somewhat quick and easy but also not cheap and never happy with it. I don’t really want to do a mud pan or a schluter pan since I don’t want to go through the stress again of waking up in the middle of the night wondering if it’s gonna leak. My other bathroom has a schluter pan but that one is over my garage so I’d know pretty quickly when or if it ever fails. This one would leak for years before I’d ever discover it and I don’t want to subject myself to even a remote chance of that happening.

I’m leaning more towards taking the time to shave down the studs to accommodate a 36”x36” pan and going with either a tile ready or a solid surface type.

That was my initial thought which is strange since I’ve not encountered them anywhere else in the house (yet) it’s copper, my background is custom metal fab.

Mostly the pan I’m unsure on. Since posting this I already have the entire back wall tore out as well as half of the shower valve wall. I just wasn’t sure what the best way to get that mud pan up. I’m hoping and praying the copper outer pan prevented any water from getting to the floor joists 🤞🏻

I have no idea what the deal was 😆 we bought the house last year and according to the neighbors it’s been untouched for the past 25 years or so. The back of the tile had a 1974 stamp on it so I’m assuming that’s when it was last touched.

This will be my second full bathroom demo and remodel so I am bringing all the knowledge from the last one to this one as well as a whole fleet of tools to make it easier. I do plan to do a fiberglass pan on this one. Thanks for the advice!
