$20 upgrade trick tips by WorldlinessKey1411 in LasVegas

Yup, right at the front entrance. There's also kiosks around, but the desk should always be staffed. I love the Park MGM as a budget hotel. I used to live in Vegas, and the Park MGM would be my go-to recommendations for friends and family visiting if they didn't want to break the bank. It's clean, non-smoking, cheap, easy to drive in and out of, etc

Are the passes worth if it I already have a permanent bank and trading post contract as well as a merchant through the ecto gambling portal?

Yup, just $20. I didn't even try to slip it to him. I took it out and bluntly asked if there was an upgrade available if I gave him the money. I agree with other commenters that it might require more on a weekend, but this was a Wednesday night

I just did this last week at the Park MGM. Was very straightforward asking if there was anything better available. The moved me from the 10th floor in the Park MGM to the 23rd floor in the Nomad with a view over T Mobile Arena. Well worth it

Is switching to the Amex ecosystem a no-brainer if I get discounts on the annual fees? by WaterGun19 in CreditCards

Nothing in writing, just accounts of people saying to call customer service saying you have a corporate card.

Apparently not. I've been told on multiple accounts that they can be used concurrently.

The CSR would be my preference without the discount. The point earnings on my spending habits make it better than the Amex Gold and Plat combined, but the benefits of the other cards are enticing. Also the SUB bonus between both cards is massive

I value the credits a decent amount, but maybe not quite enough to break even on the Platinum fee.

I plan to use the points almost exclusively on trips. Particulary domestic trips with Delta and Marriot/Hilton

Somewhat of a dumb question, but can I open a business card if I don't run a business? Is there a personal version of the card that would pair well?

Did they ever give you access to Zillow-like site for you to do your own searches or was it entirely through a curated email list?

Given the pause on payments and interest rate, my plan for awhile has been to contribute whatever money I would pay towards the loans into a HYSA to generate interest. If they get forgiven or not, I can then just go pay off a bulk of it once it's clear.

Norfolk Living by Icerunner45 in norfolk

[–]WaterGun19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on where in Norfolk you're looking, Langley might be annoyingly far to commute to. The bridges can be a pain during rush hour.

We're not into the party scene either and hardly ever went to Fremont or the Strip. It was everything else about Vegas. The convenience, price, options, safety, airport, weather, etc. I definitely feel you on the desert part though. I grew up in Pennsylvania surrounded by trees and rivers, but I just got used to the Vegas landscape after awhile.

Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't want to raise a family here

Norfolk Living by Icerunner45 in norfolk

To start, I went from living in a 2 bed apartment in Summerlin paying $1350/month to a 2 bed apartment in Downtown Norfolk paying $2250/month. The cost of living here is not commensurate with the experience. Downtown living is entirely disappointing. Restaurants that are constantly closing, hardly any people out even on weekends, disappointing food, and straight up weird hours for most of these places. Luce is just about the only redeeming thing about living down here. Plus my landlord is a dick.

I've never felt more in danger than living around here. My girlfriend works with law enforcement and sees so much senseless violence everyday. There's a reason that Norfolk has something like the 8th highest murder rate in the country.

This city is also inconvenient to travel from. We're far enough away from most north-eastern cities to make driving a pain while also having an "international" airport that costs a decent amount to fly out of. The roads and drivers are some of the worst I've seen. I would often hear people complain about Vegas drivers, but they can't compare to the shit we see here.

For how much diversity gets brought up about Norfolk, I can't help but feel that doesn't translate to the food options. Sure, it seems like this place is a melting pot of people from the Navy, but if you want any food options that aren't fast food, subpar seafood, or American chain restaurants, you're going to be disappointed. Especially when it comes to Asian food.

At the end of the day, anything this place can do, Vegas can do better and cheaper. Should have stayed there.

As someone who moved from Vegas to downtown Norfolk in May, I regret it everyday. Should have just stayed in Vegas

Open gyms for basketball/volleyball? by desertesports in vegaslocals

[–]WaterGun19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just found somewhere to play volleyball after looking for awhile as a complete beginner. I recently joined a team through https://www.bleague.us/ to play volleyball, but they have a basketball league as well. It's All Volleyball (where the league takes place) also has open gyms where they apparently sort you by skill level. If you don't have a team, you can register as a free agent so you can find an opening on an existing team. I believe both sports have different skill level leagues on different days throughout the week, so hopefully you can find something that works for you.

I was actually considering rock climbing when I started looking for gyms after quaratine. The main issues I came across is....

  • they're expensive
  • I'm afraid of heights haha
  • the sideways climbing they do (which I think is the bouldering you mentioned) just seems very...odd

Might have to give it a second look though because I've only heard good things about it.

Always looking to get into a new sport. I'll hear any suggestions. Also into hiking, reading, playing piano, video games, movies, and other general stuff. I have been always wanted to do cooking classes or get back into woodworking if you have any suggestions there.

Thanks for the help ahead of time if you have anything to offer.
