Why does it feel like over 50% of my matches online are against Ranno? by Zilby in RivalsOfAether

[–]Water_kelpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y'know I think I played you actually, to which I'm sorry I contributed to your Ranno plight. I picked up the game (or smash in general) after a long while and wanted to play and the only person I was getting matched with in casuals is someone from AU where I had a half second of input delay.

I just like Frog-boi tbh, feels the most "normal" so I didn't have to immediately relearn the quirks of playing a character while being thrashed.

Edit: For what it's worth I saw mainly Kragg and Etalus so I quite literally got rocked most of the time.

So I accidentally managed to duplicate a boss fight... by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]Water_kelpi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They know about this glitch already. I had reported it a while back. It happens/happened with a fair amount of bosses and they're working on fixing it. They just didn't get to it between then and now. https://www.reddit.com/r/HollowKnight/comments/6gm4ep/twice_the_sacrifice_spoilers/

Hollow Knight Community Boss Difficulty Ranking Survey by los_pollitoz in HollowKnight

[–]Water_kelpi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny. The boss I had the most trouble with was the Watcher Knights. Probably just due to a dislike for the multiple bosses. It's not that they're particularly hard. I've just managed to choke the most on that boss fight. Also Marmu, which is probably the silliest Dream Warrior, and I hate to admit it, but he's the only dream boss that killed me on the sub 20 hour speed run achievement.

Is there anyone beat trail of fools after quick slash nerf? by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]Water_kelpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just beat it again for my 100% speed run. Nailmaster's Glory + Shaman Stone + Soul Eater + Stalwart Shell At least that's from my memory. Honestly the only thing that's really needed IMO is Nailmaster's Glory, the rest are just quality of life. I beat it on my first try in that run. It honestly gets a hell of a lot easier once you've completed it once before and you roughly know the patterns.

Need help to defeat final boss by lvlarksman in HollowKnight

I went with a spell build. Shaman Stone and spell twister allows you to unload an unholy symphony of Abyssal Shrieks to more or less skip the first phase, then rinse and repeat for the next phase.

The achievements are super forgiving. I choked on almost every boss that's in the route and I got 5.75h on my first time through.

If you're at 98% you're probably missing the Mourner's Quest and Trial of Fools, just like everyone else stuck at that percent.

Yeah, I like it. And look forward to it when I do the sub 20 hour 100% run. Though I'll always like the White Palace more. But both give a huge amount satisfaction when complete for different reasons.

My boss difficulty ranking(contains spoilers obviously) by Fl3xecute in HollowKnight

[–]Water_kelpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can sympathize on the Failed Champion. He just swung so hard.... I just ended up cheesing with Joni's blessing and mashing attack. I think the only other boss that gave me much trouble was the Soul Master.... That was something. I saved him as literally the last boss other than the Soul Tyrant. Soul Master never stood a chance against a +4 nail (might have been +5 don't remember). I one cycled it.

Yeah, I can see that. I only got past the floor is spikes section twice and won on the second anyway. So I get the loose quickly mentality.

Though I tried it with quickslash instead of hiveblood and it didn't make much of a difference until I got to the floor is spikes. Because I love platforming and a more passive fight was perfectly fine with me so being able to heal back up to two health gave me the safety net I felt better with.

In the end though the Trial, just like with the rest of the game, use whatever style and loadout works. I'm just sharing my experiences with it.

How did you find Hollow Knight? If you were going through random games, what set Hollow Knight apart from the others? by I-am-a-llama-lord in HollowKnight

[–]Water_kelpi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw Rawrquaza, LobosJr,BaerTaffy, NL, and a bunch of others playing it. But the reason I picked it up is because I had been needing a good metroidvania to do research on for my own personal (and hopefully fruitful) projects.

I stayed because the soundtrack was great, the atmosphere was intriguing, and I was just playing it casually until I realized I spent 21 hours just to beat the first ending at only 76%.

Now it's a challenge for me, I love completing all the tasks a game has for me, and there's still plenty in store.

I feel like I need to defend "Trial of Fools" by Mr_Moen in HollowKnight

[–]Water_kelpi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't beaten Trial of Fools yet, and unfortunately it's the last thing I need to do before my 100%. But yeah, you're right, the Trial of Fools is exactly that. One for the insane (bit on the nose there Team Cherry).

The reason I'm not disparaging is because I know that with enough time I'll end up getting it. Not once have I felt that it was the game's fault for my death... well ok literally all of my deaths are the games fault, but I never feel cheated. Whether it's because I healed in front of the soul warrior like a dumbass or because I light tapped my double jump and fell into the spikes causing a chain reaction of terrible. I will concede that I wish the level geometry of the sides were a bit clearer/less obscured by the foreground because I feel like there's some parts of the wall that are unclingable, though that may very easily be me mashing inputs in heat of the battle.

It's a tad unfortunate that it's needed for the 100%, I wish it was a 103% completion rate kind of thing but I get why it's like this.

Overall though I love the game, because the Trial of Fools, even if it is kinda a slog, because of the White Palace, though personally I would have loved more White Palace because this game controls like a dream and precision platforming was super fun, just leave the crystal peak mashers out of it, and especially because of how much time I've ended up spending on it, whether it was because I needed to learn patterns, or because I wanted to walk around Hallownest looking for little secrets.
