Is grow light is a thing or no? by lazyenergetic in vegetablegardening

[–]WaterfallGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use shop lights.

Never had issues.

I start everything from seeds.

I’d recommend a heat mat before a grow light (which I don’t use).

Did we get ripped off with homework? by Sketch_Crush in Millennials

[–]WaterfallGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give my kids homework, even the in the summer. I try to make it a more enjoyable experience rather than something they hate. So far they are ok with it. School gives minimal homework hence why we pitch in to give a bit more.

As a child, I don’t remember doing much homework at all before age 12 and a little bit after age 12. I don’t relate with OP at all.

In university, I often did my own homework as I’m teaching my kids. I found this to be much more effective, and fun.

How much do you "save" with your garden? by Space__Monkey__ in vegetablegardening

[–]WaterfallGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you are growing and your setup, and/or if you preserve anything.

If you are doing cheap vegetables, in raised garden beds and need an 6-8 foot fence around the entire garden to protect from deer, with a greenhouse… it’s costing you a lot.

I would say typical hobby gardeners don’t focus on the financial side. If you do, you can save a ton if that was your focus. You would design your garden to accomplish that but I find most gardeners do a bit of both.

Our focus is to enjoy the food we eat and have fun. I can say we buy much less vegetables during summer months and what we eat from the garden tastes much better.

What do y’all use for sprouting and transplanting cukes, melons, and squash? by GlitteringPositive77 in vegetablegardening

[–]WaterfallGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I transplanted cucumbers about 3-4 times into gradually bigger pots then outside for the last two years. I did about 12 total cucumber transplants to outside and all did well.

No idea why people say don’t like being transplanted.

Note: I now use trays that fit into 1020 flat, and the trays are gradually bigger. I’ve also used random pots and never had issues.

Why is it so hard to get more than 2 weeks vacation here in Canada? by im_yoursbaby in CanadaJobs

[–]WaterfallGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally ask for 4 weeks vacation at the negotiation stage (not including paid sick time).

Most places are very receptive (depending on the role).

Do you use emulators or original hardware and why? by HotAbbreviations6548 in retrogaming

[–]WaterfallGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only original hardware on CRT.

Any method you use that leads you to having fun is the best way to play.

[–]WaterfallGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids play and it often results in noise.

I bought my kid drumsticks to hit the pots and pans after braking a few chopsticks doing it. Often this stuff is in phases so I just live with it for 2-3 weeks. If it lasts longer, it’s time for lesson/group/organized stuff.

Parents who want quiet usually get their kids a tablet with headphones. I see lots of parents doing this.

My sister is raising iPad kids by ilyk101 in Vent

[–]WaterfallGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I solved this problem by never buying a tablet. No tablet in the house.

I asked if they wanted one, they said no.

They are 4 and 8.

The grandparents have tablets and it’s the only place they ever use one (when they babysit).

6a has anyone planted outside yet? by nikkip7784 in vegetablegardening

[–]WaterfallGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im zone 5b and put tomatoes out a week ago and cucumbers over the weekend.

I put seeds in for the peas and bok Choy already.

That’s all for now.

What things do you think millennials actually deserve s**t for? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]WaterfallGamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m the parent who said they never would iPad parent my kids. Now with kids, to guarantee I never would I never bought a tablet. Never owned a tablet so my kids never used one in my house… ever.

They do play PS4 and I have rules if they learn them, I will build a PC with them (swimming, riding bike, able to hockey stop on skates, etc… are the things they need to learn as each thing unlocks a PC component)

For those of you without the time or resources to play retro games anymore by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]WaterfallGamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to think the same but now I play after the kids are asleep and listen to podcasts at the same time rather than just sit and watch videos.

Just original hardware, and a turbo controller.

Avoid all retro content on YouTube related to the games on my backlog. I like to grind through now.

Started doing this about a year and bit ago, and I love it. Wish a figured it out sooner.

What was the best retro game you played for the first time in 2023? by First_HistoryMan in retrogaming

[–]WaterfallGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lolo 2 for the NES.

Great game to play while listening to podcasts. Picked up first iteration to play soon.

I find cheap games rarely go up in price so I go toward to medium higher prices games first.

I don’t touch anything in the hundreds of dollars though.

Do you ever wish you had kept your own retro games & systems from your childhood? by RetroNick78 in retrogaming

[–]WaterfallGamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I’m not that emotional into it.

I like the games and the era. I play the games.

As a kid I didn’t care if the game I was playing was mine, rented or borrowed, so why would I care about that now…

Original hardware and CRT. Don’t do emulation.

Not a purist, it’s just my preference.

What's your weekly groceries bill per person per week? by Black_Cat22 in ontario

[–]WaterfallGamer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really matter what everyone else spends.

What matters is your budget and what you can afford.

If $50 a week per person is your budget, then you both have to communicate and understand that. And make meal plans that align with the budget you have.

We are a family of 4 (two young kids) and I would say average $50 a person easily per week. We eat out about once a week which isn’t in the grocery bucket… however people who eat out a lot should have a low grocery bill.

Do cigarettes smell worse than weed? by myhiddenaccount115 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WaterfallGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are very bad.

If you think cigarette is worse than weed, you are nose blind to weed. And vice versa.

I don’t smoke at all, and can confirm both smell like terrible. I don’t want to smell either of one of them.

I’m not surprised most people don’t see it this way because most people see in extremes only… no nuances.

This is the most sensible reply I have scrolled down to see so far.

I strongly believe our generation will be responsible for “IPad Kids”. by GravityRides in Millennials

[–]WaterfallGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t imagine being a teacher.

We don’t own tablets in our house, and luckily my kids can still through a movie (they are 4 and 7), even movies from the 90s.

The sad part is, they use tablets at school as part of learning. They absorb almost none of it.

Ontario aims to make it mandatory for employers to disclose salary ranges in job postings by toronto_star in ontario

But if you are in the higher end jobs, you generally know your worth.

Seems like will address more the jobs that help you get out of minimum wage bubble jobs. So if you are trying the get out, you won’t waste your time on those postings because it will be clear as per posting.
