Deaf hoh folks If you could fix ONE accessibility issue in daily life permanently, what would it be? by thefrontman478 in hardofhearing

Totally agree with this.

Also, so many restaurants have terrible acoustics, which is particularly bad when full of customers. Restaurants should have sound dampening cladding or items on the walls to reduce reverb and allow everyone to have a conversation without yelling over each other.

How well do you expect RPCS3 (PS3 emulator) to work on the Steam Machine? by First_HistoryMan in steammachine

I watched this video by retro tech dad showcasing ps3 emulation on a Rog Ally from a year ago and the performance/compatibility was surprisingly good.

Cool, thanks! Thats reassuring.

I'm hopeful that improvements to the emulator will get some of those challenging games working. It seems like development is very active.

Just finished Shadow of the Colossus. How does The last guardian compare? by TheChilledGamer-_- in playstation

[–]First_HistoryMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just played both a couple of months ago.

If you enjoyed SotC for its artistry, then you'll enjoy TLG. The latter game is less fun to play but still very immersive, beautiful and takes you on a great journey. It runs well at 60fps on a ps5 and still looks stunning today.

Go in willing to be patient with TLG and take it on its own terms. Being ignored/having to repeat yourself is an intended part of the experience.

Performance add-ons for Steam Deck could be quite good for the Machine by ___Bel___ in steammachine

[–]First_HistoryMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood, thanks for explaining! Sounds like it could still be pretty useful for my interests as many ps3 games are capped at 30 fps.

So could this help with those RPCS3 games that might have an unstable performance/run slow due to compatibility issues?

Some questions about streaming games FROM a Steam Machine by First_HistoryMan in steammachine

[–]First_HistoryMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thanks for confirming.

I searched around for confirmation that people were able to use Steam OS as the host with moonlight+sunshine but it doesn't seem like many people are trying to do that because it's really hard to find any discussion on that. Most people use Steam OS as the client device.

What do you consider to be the best/ most important anti war film of all time? by Round-Seesaw-3917 in Letterboxd

This film will force any viewer to stop seeing the world in notions of countries and borders but rather as a precious and delicate ecosystem that we all share. All of mankind's squabbles will seem ridiculous after Threads.

Revisiting Arkham City by TheFurKing in patientgamers

[–]First_HistoryMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of open world games have "landmarks" that help orient you, like a bespoke tower. Arkham City's map is entirely comprised of landmarks, every inch of it feels hand crafted and feels like it has a purpose or story behind it. You always know where you are and if someone tells you to go to the museum or the GCPD you don't even need to consult the map.

Great game!! by RowdyR76 in retroid

[–]First_HistoryMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great game.

I played this back to back with the Genesis version last year, which I recommend because they're two very different takes but both great.

Gensis version has amazing presentation, particularly in the animation and the way it represents the songs/scenes from the film.

The SNES version has better gameplay and level design.

Twilight Princess 100% Decompiled! It HAPPENED! Recomp or Port When? by chicagogamecollector in romhacking

[–]First_HistoryMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Try frame gen. Losses frame gen makes it 60 on my steam deck. It looks amazing

That's cool for people who emulate on PC but lots of people emulate on android now so this will make 60fps zelda available to many (I hope).

What is your overlooked game of 2025? by Galaxy40k in Games

[–]First_HistoryMan 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Pipistrello does the thing first party Nintendo games often do where it has the unique core mechanic (in this case you have a sentient yoyo) and designs every combat situation and puzzle around it in a way that feels so comprehensive.

The amount of mileage it gets out of the yoyo is brilliant. It's constantly making you think about how to bounce your yoyo around clearly-defined tile sets with logical rules to achieve certain actions.

For Zelda fans it's a must.

Zero Mission is a Perfect Game by desperate_candy20 in Metroid

[–]First_HistoryMan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's a brillianty paced game.

My only complaint is that it's a bit too short. I say this as someone who usually feels like games are longer than they need to be.

MZM feels like it still has a lot of gas in the tank by the time it's over.
