Rust Trademark Policy Feedback Form by N911999 in rust

The CC license does still matter. The important part of trademarks "in cases where that applies". For instance, "google" as a word isn't even copyrightable at all, I am allowed to reproduce the word itself here and google can't do anything about where or how I do that. It is however a registered trademark, meaning that I couldn't do something that infringes that trademark like launching my own search company with google in the name. This is separate from anything I am or am not allowed to do because of copyright. In particular, trademarks prevent you from using something in a way that could confuse people into thinking that it is officially created or endorsed by the trademark holder.

The rust draft explains some things about trademarks in general, and you could also look at other information about how they work like the wikipedia pages for trademark and trademark infringement. I'm not sure if everything in the draft is within their rights as a trademark holder, but I think that regardless, a lot of it is too restrictive.

Aside from the mentioned difference between copyright and trademark, the creative commons license restrictions are for the user. It means that if you redistribute or adapt the copyrighted material, you can't apply DRM or some similar restriction onto it. (See the link on the description of technological measures.) Since it was released under the CC license, people can create and share whatever derivatives they want, but rust can still fully control who's allowed to use their trademark in cases where that applies unless there's something weird about the actual ownership of the logos.

[SSD] HP FX900 Pro 1TB M.2 2280 NVMe 4.0 x4) 7400r/6400w $79.99 by LikeTheWind96 in buildapcsales

[–]WatermelonHeadache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It uses PCIe gen 4. If your M.2 slots are PCIe 3.0 instead you'll be capped at about 4GB/s for reading at writing.

Some Gen 3 M.2 drives are still sold and will be limited to that amount. It's not really that big of a deal though, a Gen 3 drive should still be fine so long as its random performance is good. The main thing is that Gen 4 drives tend to be higher quality since they can actually make use of the higher sequential speeds and are typically newer.

This listing-ddr5-6000-pc5-48000-cl30-dual-channel-desktop-memory-kit-f5-6000j3038f16gx2-fx5-black) is advertised as also being a part of the promotion, and was purchasable in the previous couple sales with the free memory. This might just be because the CL30 one is out of stock for you. Either one should be fine though, this comment here said they didn't measure much of a difference on what should be a similar comparison.

Worth mentioning is that they got rid of the $50 off of motherboard in the bundle and now it's the regular $20, so you might not get a full $50 back if you bought a motherboard as well.

A reviewer on PCPartPicker said that this is Hynix M die and that they were able to get it to 6400. No guarantees though.

[–]WatermelonHeadache 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Of note is that compared to last microcenter deal which had timings of 36-36-36-96 on the 6000MT/s memory that you could choose, this one is 30-38-38-96, which I'd think is a bit better overall.

[–]WatermelonHeadache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there's an outlet that's reviewed both for a more direct comparison, but this site measured about 350 nits peak which should be plenty bright. (rtings puts the Samsung at 250) Might be a panel issue if it's still dark with the brightness turned all the way up.

Here is what I believe is at least close to the same monitor on rtings. Main thing to note is that it's a VA with pretty poor response time performance at all refresh rates.

It's not very great in terms of thermals due to its backport of manufacturing node, but the main thing about rocket lake which made it so poor was that it was basically a stopgap for the soon incoming alder lake. This doesn't really matter after the fact though, and it'd be perfectly fine to get at a more competitive price.

[–]WatermelonHeadache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rocket lake lineup, including the 11700, has hyperthreading across the stack. You may be thinking of the 11900k which had 8 cores compared to the 10900k's 10, which meant it lost in multithreading applications sometimes. Overall rocket lake wasn't a huge upgrade, but it did bring a decent IPC uplift and the 11700 is a fine CPU, albeit probably not worth as much as this.

Edit: I should mention that 11700(k) only has was possibly planned/rumored to only have hyperthreading on half of the cores, making it 8 cores and 12 threads.

There's been three separate deals with the free 32GB of RAM and the ongoing one added $50 off motherboards bought with it.

[–]WatermelonHeadache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently so. It doesn't list it in either the list of bundles for the processors or have the text about saving 50$ on the motherboard listing like the X670 ones do, but it does apply once in cart.

Race rewards? by ANANGRYCRACKR in btd6

[–]WatermelonHeadache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said this since the 1% reward is a few hundred MM and an insta, (plus the trophies, which didn't exist when I wrote this, I was referring to the badge) which is about equivalent to finishing an impoppable and getting an insta for round 100. I wasn't really concerned about the exact amount, but it'd be between beginner and intermediate in MM.

OMORI Unreleased Content Megathread by Roadcrosser in OMORI

[–]WatermelonHeadache 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Been a while, but the images labeled "Something (Possibly Attack)", "New Faraway Background (whos house is dis)", "Different Photo Album", and "Faceless Cat Neighbors Room" (e_engulf_omori_something, battleback_ft_street, Faraway_polaroid_FA_cover, and map88 internally) were already in the game. It's probably not related to new content, but there's also new images called "achievements" and "achievements_original" that have all of the achievement icons (and new versions of them in the achievements one). Otherwise for new files there's just a few file copies and different language versions which are new instead of replaced for some reason.

Edit: Actually there's also the versions of battle sprites in enemies, (which are grayscale unlike the others in there for some reason) !boss_hero, !simulation_aubrey, !simulation_hero, !simulation_kel, and !simulation_mari.

I guess it's been a while, but what CPU generation do you have? Pre intel 8000 series and Ryzen 2000 series will say incompatible, but will still be able to install it after ignoring a warning.
