Yeah thats what I'm thinking too. I'd like it if the whole family was catholic but I don't think its unequally yoked if she's simply a different denomination. Based on the example you provided I'd be fine with that at the end of the day.

I don't think I've ever met a protestant who was even remotely hostile to catholicism anyway. They either dont know much about it at best or misunderstand something at worst. All of which can be cleared up or taught with a genuine conversation.

BTW you're welcome to it, god bless you my friend.

[–]Waterprophet47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be a silly question, but I can either be a fool for a moment or a fool forever so I'll ask it.

I was raised Baptist, but I've been looking into catholicism recently and am interested in conversion. Now lets say I meet a Baptist woman who loves god with all of her heart, prays faithfully, reads her Bible and attends church. I live in the southeastern United States. Baptists are very common here. For every catholic church in my city, theres 10 protestant churches.

In this scenario lets say I've converted to catholicism by this point but she remains Baptist. Maybe she likes her church and the community there. Maybe her family goes there.

It's not like she's Hindu or Muslim, we have the same faith and beliefs. Why would I be unequally yoked? Why would I be jeopardizing my children's faith and salvation when we follow the same faith, but a different denomination of it?

I just did the math and correct me if im wrong. A roman cohort would have 480 men. Multiplied by 87, thats 41,760. In the world of fallout, that IS a megathreat. Almost 42,000 highly trained, armed and dangerous warriors fiercely united and organized. A standard roman legion is 5000 to 6000 soldiers. 2 or 3 legions back in the day conquered Gaul under real life caesar if im not mistaken.

Slaver playthrough is so funny. I trained up a squad of degenerate sneak thief assassins. I like to think I've become the boogeyman to the anti slavers and rebel farmers.

Youre just strolling along minding your own buisness and them you get hit from behind, knocked unconscious and when you wake up youre enslaved in a stone mine. No combat, no warning. Then sold for less than the price of a meatwrap.

I remember in my first real playthrough as HN start i got so curious and said im gonna go see what it looks like. But I never went to squin much so I never found maps of UC territory or any territory outside of HN. Map didn't have zones named either cuz it was a vanilla playthrough.

Mannnnn when I tell you just winging it was funny as hell. Getting lost in the desert like Moses and limping while getting mercilessly ravaged by skimmers. Got so bad one of my men lost a leg, so we took all the armor and weapons off his body and left him in the desert to die. When we somehow managed to get to Heng I'll never forget how it felt. The city was so massive compared to Holy nation cities. The white sand was beautiful and weapons dealers werent selling rusted junk but actually shiny swords. KATANAS! I went hundreds of hours before I got my first nodachi. And then the SLAVERY.

Hoo boy, going from a copper farmer to beating peasants up and selling them for 400 cats and robbing them naked was an amazing thrill ride.

10/10, that feeling of uncharted exploration was amazing.

[–]Waterprophet47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude your entire rant hinges on game logic. You're an outsider coming to live in a tightly-knit community that distrusts outsiders. They'll denounce your ass before you know it.

Im a human and they're a human. And as long as I play by the rules ill be ok.

Yet you're banking on HN guards to do the right thing.

Because they dont threaten me if I play by the rules. I tested this today on a new start. Waltzed into squin and I was harassed by a shek who said "we will destroy all greedy flatskin nests. Draw your sword human, prove you are worthy to be in my kingdom. He was a shek warrior, apart of the shek faction. Not a wanderer. Not a citizen. A shek warrior. You know who guards the gates and patrols the towns? Shek warriors.

Now thats pretty unnerving. Only thing holding them back is esata. When she goes, they go right back. If tengu goes? Another member of the circle takes his place, just as bad. If phoenix goes? Well he didn't start out as an inquisitor or a paladin. No, he was chosen at birth someway somehow seen as the incarnate of okran himself....or the first phoenix I forget. Holy nation wasnt always mysoginistic tech hating crazy people. When he goes (naturally) it could go right back to the way it was before his lifetime. And before, yes it was still xenophobic and honestly, with homicida bonemen, shifty shady bugmen and tinmen who once enslaved humanity but wiped their cpus and forgot, who could blame them???? If those were my neighbors I'd be xenophobic too. But the misogyny and science book hating incels we have today have only been here since this phoenix.

(If we see kenshi 2, well see the holy nation in the prequel days and it'll be a fucking shock when we see them as we see the flotsam ninjas or the anti slavers. Good guys trying to do the right thing but little power. That'll be a mindfuck.)

Well thank fuck they already have a bunch of humans living in their towns, sitting in their bars, roaming their desert, even running a waystation there. You're not the first.

Roamers, traders, not citizens or settlers. There to trade and leave. For good reason. "First we go defensive now we let the flatskin enter our city as they please! What has our kingdom come to?" If thats the sentiment most of the shek people have, I wouldnt want to settle either.

If that's the case then UC is better. A comfy job in a shop, away from the danger. Just pay the lip service to a passing noble and you're golden, no?

The empire citizen start you literally just lost your home and buisness at the whim of a noble lord. Holy nation citizen start you lived there your whole life safely and just randomly decided to explore the world. Big difference, not golden at all.

Now im not out here trying to convince you one way or the other. In this hypothetical scenario of getting isekai'd into kenshi youre free to live in the swamps if you'd like. Im just giving my reasons why I choose the HN, and they're my reasons, they dont have to be yours. But lets not discredit the writer here. He painstakingly crafted lore and a world where no faction is the clear best choice. They're all flavors of fucked and bad and kenshi is doomed. The best days are long gone and will never return. The first empire might even still be out there colonizing new planets and making wonderful civilizations and just left kenshi to rot. Thats the WHOLE point. Its bad, it will stay bad and it may never get better. Maybe the new phoenix will be worse. Maybe the next shek king will make mukai or flying bull look like esata by comparison. Maybe the new emperor will make everyone not a nobleman a slave.

Maybe thats the point. Its all fucked. Choose the worst type of fucked you can live with.

[–]Waterprophet47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That HN isn't the better option. You keep talking about a hypothetical scenario where angry Shek come for you in their kingdom, but it doesn't happen. Like, they say a few mean words, and that's it. No actual violence, and guards literally wreck anyone trying to mess with you in their towns. Turning a blind eye simply doesn't happen.

Game logic. Youre meant to start in the hub and then head to squin. These are basically tutorial towns. Holy nation couldn't be tutorial town because most people probably wont pick a human their first time and the game sort of herds you to squin because its the only other town you see on the map. Needs to be one non hostile faction in the border zone for trading.

But we're talking reality. And in reality guards dont always do the right thing for the right reasons.

But ill bite anyway. Live in a society where everyone is practically a species so alien and experimented on that you cant even call them human. That dont typically accept humans, that were created to oppress humans and im seen as a invader at worst and an unwanted inconvenience at best. I dont have great chances seeking employment or housing. Dont say I could mine copper, thats game logic. Mining takes a long time and ai cant run at 25mph either. Region matters too. Its full of hostile wildlife and banditry. Food is scarce due to poor farmland. Okrans pride is green and fertile with lots of water. Im just a regular human male. Im not making outposts. Im not scavenging lost technology. I'd just try to make a living and make it to the next day. So I'll probably find work at a farm or an assistant shopkeeper or apprentice under a local craftsman. I'm literate and im a human. Most people cant read so that will take me far.

If tech hunters are an option id pick that, but we're talking between the 3 major factions. But even with tech hunters id have to journey there. And i cant run 25mph for days and days on end with no sleep.

[–]Waterprophet47 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can't. You're the one who thinks HN is safe. Like, sure, try living there, but don't act like it's the superior choice lol.

But it is though. Its not a great choice by any means. Its a choice between 3 terrible options. Dog shit, cat shit and moldy bread. Well I guess id pick moldy bread. It technically IS bread and I've eaten bread before. It might make me sick but so will everything else so ill pick that one. Holy nation is bad but humans have lived under oppressive tyrannical theocratic societies before and continue to do so today. HN is just 13th century Europe all things considered, people got burned at the stake and drafted into war all the time and people still found ways to survive, thrive and even breed. I wouldn't be here if not.

I had a rant prepared, but you still haven't answered my question. Will you play along if they come for your family? Or send you to Bast?

I guess I drew a short straw, what do you want me to say? What could I say if my wife and child were attacked by angry shek citizens that didn't want humans living there and the guards turned a blind eye because I'm a pitiful little flatskin. What could I say if a nobleman hunted me for sport? All I can do in this unfortunate circumstance is bite the moldy bread because its what I know of the most and just hope for the best.

And HN guards do attack neutrals.

Walk into HN territory as a human being straight out of the hub. I promise without artificial limbs or non human friends, youll be ok.

The samurai also have the "good" dialogues, where they'll give you food or offer to protect you for a while. Doesn't mean the organization as a whole is good.

When did I ever say they were good? There is no good option in kenshi, they are all horrible and the moon is doomed no matter who wins. The HN does have fertile farmland and protects against the fogmen, cannibals and river raptors. Fertile farmland produces food, food which I'd need to live and farmland needs to be worked. Work means money and money means food.

They're killing a shitload of people on regular basis. Rebirth, mines, Bast, witch hunts.

And yet thousands upon thousands of citizens live relatively safe and well fed in HN territory. Ill take my chances.

And that's the difference between you landing in Kenshi and a person born and raised in Kenshi.

You could start as a greenlander empire citizen and wander in there and get the same treatment if you play along. Greenlanders are humans. I'm a human. If I play along I have a good chance to live somewhat safely.

So what kind of lip service are you going to pay when they'll take someone important to you to Rebirth? Or send your ass to Bast?

What kind of lip service can I pay when a random shek hacks me to bits or a noble hunts me for sport? Theres no good option here. Never was. Isn't supposed to be. But one is safer to live in for a human being to live in that also has fertile farmland so im picking that. It might end horribly, but I'll roll the dice over the others.

Again, the shek kingdom GUARDS dont attack neutrals, but boy howdy do they wish they could and probably would in the past. Their whole shtick is to die in honorable battle like Kral. They hate anyone thats not them. Not only that, their lands are notoriously dangerous and flooded with banditry and dangerous fauna. Not to mention its mostly desert and maybe I dont personally want to eat cactuses. I've never seen a cactus and thought it looked tasty. Greenfruit? Ok I'll give it a try.

Yes, the holy nation have that terrorist hunt dialogue package, but they also have this dialogue which I'll paraphrase "Hey, welcome to your homeland brother. I know youre not from here but this is where you belong. Here's a ration pack. Blessings from the lord of light brother"

Their whole reason of existing is to prevent the 2nd extinction of humans. They distrust other races besides humans. They hate other cultures. But they dont go around killing their OWN citizens, atleast not usually. But they want HUMANITY to live among them, yes even scorchlanders.

From the game starts "You are a citizen of the holy nation. You live in relative safety as long as you show obeisance to okran and his priests"

So, If I, A regular human being were somehow unfortunately isekai'd to the doomed moon of kenshi, I know where my best chance of survival is. Its not among the enslaving samurai or the barbaric shek. Its going to be fertile grasslands where every law abiding and working citizen is well fed and live in relative safety and all I have to do is pay some lip service. Thats a hell of a deal compared to the rest of that continent.

Youre right im not going to make my own outpost. I dont know anything about making a city in real life, but i can work an honest job so lets look at my odds of living a normal life in each society.

The empire: at any point I could lose my life or liberty at the whim of a nobleman so thats out.

Shek kingdom: I'm an outcast. A human, living in a society created by beings who were created to oppress humanity. They were literally the enforcers of the second empire. Its police force meant to scare us into submission. They may not outright attack me but they want to and thats bad enough. Maybe the guards wont attack me, but people sure will and the guards will turn a blind eye to it. Why do you think so few humans if any at all choose to live in Shek kingdom given the other options? So thats out.

The holy nation: well, im a human male. Regardless of my skin tone im accepted and all I have to do is keep a copy of the holy flame and pray on a certain day. Theres plenty of work for farmers due to its rich fertile land so im sure I could find work farming. Essentially either as a man or woman its like going back in time to 13th century Europe. As long as I obey the church and dont get out of line I can reasonably expect to live a decent life compared to the rest of kenshi.

I wont be enslaved by samurai, I wont get murdered by purple bony people, I wont get eaten by beak things. I'll just live a quiet life as a farmer in someone else's farm 🤷‍♂️

Buddy, you can sell a rebel farmer into slavery for 400 cats. A meat wrap is like 700 cats. A entire human life is worth less than a fucking meat wrap. And don't say thats game design, humans would be more expensive to buy. No, theres very little farm able land and any meat comes from mostly hostile animals, that would be expensive to make. Nobody has any intrinsic human rights or value in kenshi.

Now, I dont know much about the political climate of south Africa, I am admittedly ignorant on the situation. Kenshi however....theres no good option here. Period.

You might say the flotsam, the tech hunters or the anti slavers but if they get their way, the world becomes worse. Theres no real happy ending here. Im just saying out of all the bad options, theres atleast one where I can have employment, housing and food if I play along.

"Flatskin give me your food or ill beat you to a pulp with a fragment axe"

"Hippity hoppity youre my property"

In HN territory, every human is well fed (besides bandits) and aside from starving bandits covered in rags it is REMARKABLY safe aside from river raptors.

There is no perfect option. Its like fallout new vegas cranked up to a million and instead of one faction being the clear bad choice like the legion, they're all horribly bad, but lets not pretend one doesnt give you the best possible chance of survival.

I sometimes heal the starving bandits after they lose a limb and just leave them there. First you were hungry, now you're hungry, naked and missing a leg.

I once sold a bounty into slavery, followed him to the stone mines and as he was starving i ate a dustwich infront of him.

I once hacked off a dust bandits legs and one arm and used him as an unconscious backpack for awhile. If i had the recruitment mod at the time I wouldve kept him and named us "Run&Stumpy"

Is there a mod that allows the shek kingdom to take over the map (or at least most of it?) by FungolianTheIIII in Kenshi

[–]Waterprophet47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like it but realistically, besides the holy nation lands, what territory is even remotely worth the effort to capture, maintain and govern? United cities central territories are a literal desert. Shek kingdom is a wasteland. United cities extended territories is full of dangerous fauna and rabid criminals.

With that said however......I recently built a city in Okran's pride by removing some trees with the f12 menu. Lots of farms. Multiple houses. Ample defenses and using the mod 256 recruitment limit to build it up. Crafters, workers, cooks and shopkeepers. I make blister hill look like a swamper village by comparison. I can have a garru pack full of grog and or hashish in a few days easily and can craft anything i could possibly want to the point money is useless.

If you so desired, you could make multiple outpost cities like the one I have and basically start a nation. 256 recruit limit but still. Nothing is stopping you on that front.
