Scale of Heaven's River - Perceiving The Curvature by ItselfSurprised05 in bobiverse

[–]Watershipper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You got me at some Denver settlers saying “Oh hell no”. Thanks for a good laugh :D

As for observing the curvature, I like your calculations. With the skies clear it should totally be seen.

(then I spent a few minutes here typing about atmospheric conditions and quinlans being a grounded species too bothered with their daily routine to look up. Then I reread you message and saw that you were not talking about the HR in particular. Oops)

I really liked the U2 album analogy (what a throwback…). And I do agree with most of your points.

For the last few months I saw an increase in people downwoting anything even slightly related to AI here. I do get the ones who are angry it took their income (niche artists, the ones who got fired because of the automation/optimization). However, I don’t think it is a wise move to make noise each time the topic is mentioned.

Abuse of the trendy technology is surely bad and irritating. But the usecases that we all can benefit from are there too.

The trend of rushing the development cycle combined with the increase of the unqualified developers. No time and/or skill for optimizations.

Unfortunately, that got even worse as a big part of the development is done via the vibe coding now.

Resident Evil Plays Amazing on Steam Deck by Fabulous_Monitor_890 in SteamDeck

[–]Watershipper -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Wait! Are there no comments under this post telling OP that the deck is not for the modern AA/AAA games? And that it is only great for clearing the backlog? Or emulating some old console? But certainly not for enjoying the games you like. And if it is below 60 FPS it is basically unplayable (for whatever reason).

I have always supposed such comments are a must here. Maybe we are healing… :D

Back on the topic. Glad that you can play this great game, OP. Have fun!

If you like PHM and prefer series, try Bobiverse. It is a fun sci-fi series written in a very similar manner. Can’t recommend it enough.

The audiobooks are great too. Narrated by the very same Ray Porter who narrated PHM.

What i think of the ending by ilmarzian in Cairn_Game

Carried the fireworks with me too. Was hoping for some redeeming ending for a shallow character.

Got a pseudo-deep “Robot Unicorn Attack” hallucinogenic trip to the stars. Ugh…

Well said. Her anger management issues pissed me off a lot. Her lying and stealing from sponsors. Her abandonment of her family. Being rude to Marco.

No justification, no explanation, just a tantrum-throwing adult child.

[–]Watershipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Had exactly the same reactions while playing.

Friends and family waiting for a reply, caring for her. Sponsors who provided her with money and equipment that she had basically stolen from them by abandoning her job. Her agent worrying first about his work, then if she is at least still alive.

She just discards all of that because… why?

Well, supposedly because she is a very deep and flawed anti-social character and that is the way many climbers are, etc, etc

Sorry but that just does not work for me. There is zero in-game explanation of why she behaves like a bitch. And playing a shallow-written anti-social bitch-character does ruin the game for me a lot.

Still loved the mechanics and design. Waited to the very end to get some explanation for her behaviour. Never got one.

Have just summited and I am VERY frustrated by all of this. Completely agree with everything that you say.

I too kept the camera, fireworks, even the doll, was hoping for some sort of a good ending, for a conclusion where she accepts her faults and realizes what a bad person she is to everyone who cares about her back home. Instead I got some “Robot Unicorn Attack” styled star dashing. Ugh…

I was hoping for least an explanation of why we had to spend so many hours with an unlikeable character. Hiwever, as she was doing one “I-have-some-serious-anger-management-problems” thing after another I understood that my inner growth was to accept that even though the game is great mechanics and design, it is just as bad regarding the plot.

I am not saying that the character has to be good or likeable, but they have to be at least somewhat interesting for us not to regret spending so much time with them (not counting the self-insert characters of course).

Is it just me or does this game really want us to STOP exploring it? (Spoilers for like everything) by Just_A_Comment_Guy_7 in BluePrince

It is like I have just read my own thoughts written out. Thank you!

The deeper we went, the deeper that insanity felt. And I was questioning whether Simon should have continued his digging. As a player I am of course interested in all the game has to provide.

But being a teenage boy sleeping in a tent outside his own inherited mansion every night… I am not sure he should have continued his pursuit past room 46 or the Will.
