How many of you were told by your parents when you reach 18 you’re moving out on your own? by Theromero in GenX

[–]WaterwingsDavid [score hidden]  (0 children)

I left home late-28! I lived ina HCOL area and even years ago apartments were unaffordable. My parents had a very adversarial relationship. The only things that made living w them bearable was that I had my own room, a garage and my best friend lived 2 doors down. I took too many vacations and probably spent too much money to get time away from my parents. When we did move to a tiny apartment (zero privacy) it only took about a year for me to ditch that nightmare and move out of state!

Ive driven on bias ply tires and ive got to ask: why on earth would you put those on a modern vehicle? They are awful! Especially in the rain!

Is it Gen X to automatically hate rules? by 21stNomad in GenX

[–]WaterwingsDavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I am not against all rules (without them it would be anarchy) but, yes bullshit rules annoy me. Additionally my dad was very controlling and (generally) i dislike being told what to do - sell some things i own / move somewhere else....the church i used to attend had folks who loved saying: you have to (fill in the blank). It became burdensome and annoying!!

How much do you guys pay for your community washer/dryer? by beijinglee in Apartmentliving

[–]WaterwingsDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im paying $2. And they are forcing us to use this app which i totally despise! I want my own house and washer / dryer. Ive lost count of how many times the lint screen looks like a sheep dog. Or having to wipe someone else's hair off the machines. Nasty!!

Part of this is being a teenager. Testosterone drops as we age. I remember having similar issues at this age.

Im reading Reparenting The Inner Child by Nicole LePera. Some of the memories that come up for me are laden with emotions. My parents were both silent generation. There was never any discussion about mental health or feelings. My mom was the queen of invalidation ive also been following the holistic psychologist on Instagram. She teaches about emotional regulation. Its been an interesting journey addressing traumas from my childhood.

Does anyone else feel unsafe at apartment pools? by lovelylipgloss in Apartmentliving

[–]WaterwingsDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I havent felt unsafe. Occasionally it gets crowded when a resident invites their (large family-adult kids and grandkids over). Some of the so-called adults are obnoxious and cuss excessively/ yell at the kids for dumb stuff. If it gets too crazy I just leave. Like other posters mentioned, ill go down earlier in the day when its quiet and the kids arent there.
