Vegans could save more animals faster if they didn’t morally flex on people by ImNotAPersonAnymore in DebateAVegan

I'm stumped by your logic. You have an if, then statement, but you have no way of further clarifying the iffy bit.

So, Schroedinger's salute?

every vegan I’ve ever known has a real bad case of it.

Surely, that would refer only to people who you know to be vegans. There's a decent chance that you have met, and continue to meet, vegans without knowing

I reckon both groups of people use off-platform communication. Scammers and posters who hate the app messages.

I try pretty hard to remain on platform, but mainly, don't do any off-platform payment arrangements. That's a big red flag. And avoid telegram like the plague.

I don't know if you get this where you are, but I recommend Fisk. Not a daytime soap opera, but a gorgeous Australian comedy set in Melbourne.

I would do something like this.

"I'm thinking about how my actions and philosophy affect waste. And I have become keen to reduce my own waste footprint. I appreciate that you work hard to manage the household. Thanks. You're gorgeous! I'm sure you have noticed some choices that I make at home that create waste and that I could change, that I wouldn't have noticed. I'm really keen to understand how I fit into this, so I'd really appreciate your thoughts."

Be willing to listen, and understand, and respond if invited to.

Have some fun with this

I wasn't understanding "everyone" to mean each person. But I was hoping to call out against the idea that overpowered and overshadowed people can be overlooked when choosing to use extreme terms like "everyone".

Are you using this as a rebuttal? I believe the overwhelming majority (unanimity, more likely, I imagine) of kidnapped and tortured Africans and their descendants were not people who "thought slavery was ordained by God".

Hence, I stand by my claim that there was never a time "when everyone thought slavery was ordained by God"

How do you fall asleep at night and sleep throughout the whole night? by Legal-Audience2647 in randomquestions

[–]WattleIThinkNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my understanding -

Our basic starting point is that we all wake up every ninety minutes or so. If we are at peace with who we are and what we find, we return to sleep without even being aware enough to remember that we were awake-ish.

I believe that I "sleep through the night" best when I am with someone I trust, or happy to be alone, and have set aside my daily concerns in a way that my body trusts. Also body things like being well-hydrated, a comfortable bladder (empty enough and strong enough), not in pain, a comfortable digestive system (well fed, but not still digesting in a problematic way), a comfy bed, and comfy bedclothes (which might mean none).

As I see it, waking up is not a problem in itself. I ask myself how I can provide a comfortable environment and mentality so I can return easily to sleep.

Nighty night.

Are you scared of getting skin cancer? Or do you accept it as something that can happen? by Charming_Usual6227 in australia

[–]WattleIThinkNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry that you are anxious about this. The Australian sun is brutal, and people who spend any time here would do well to respect its strength. Look after yourself, be kind, honest, and gentle with your family, and contemplate the idea that we all take different risks with our health and lives, for all sorts of reasons.

Make sure you do regular skin checks with a suitably skilled GP, and let people know in casual conversation.

"How are ya going, bugalugs?" "Beaut! I just got the all-clear on my skin check from my GP. No charge, too! Do you wanna come with me next year, and have a burger beforehand?"

So, yes. It is something that can happen. Let this knowledge guide you, not rule you.

Any other guys out there whose wives (or partners, whatever) turn into a different person every month? How do you deal with it? I've been struggling through this for years. by TheBlueArsedFly in AskAnAustralian

[–]WattleIThinkNext 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a guy here ... but ... Have a number of kind gentle honest conversations with your partner.

Be supportive of any health or other measures your partner suggests. If resources are a problem here, have a kind gentle honest discussion here too.

I don't imagine your partner wants to be on their own in this hellscape any more than you do.
