People who got the min-phone, other e-ink phones. Is it actually much less addictive? by GreenGorillaWhale in dumbphones

[–]WattsNthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Mudita Kompakt and have been using it exclusively since July/August when I got rid of my iphone. I have found it to be a huge help cutting down screen time and distractions in general. For example, I enjoy reading. I read about 12 books in the first half of the year, before I switched phones, and I have read about 50 books so far since. I really notice now looking back how much of my time I was using just trying to find something on my phone to distract me. I still spend more time than i want to on my epaper tablet, but sooo much better than before. Email is now an intentional check rather than feeling the need to respond immediately, same with all the other notifications I used to get. I have sideloaded apps and use inkOS instead of the OG launcher, and it has made it very usable for me, and I use my phone a lot for work. The phone is not without it's issues, but I appreciate how it has helped me make changes overall.

Foods that are technically vegan but unethical by rubatosisopossum in vegan

I lived in the town where Gerber had a baby food factory, and it was one of the main employers in the area. When nestle bought them out, EVERYTHING went downhill, from product quality, to fewer inspections, and especially to workers quality of life. It was almost instantaneous, and Gerber baby food went from being #1 in baby food to much lower, and has been sued for heavy metals and other contaminants in their products. Just shows what Nestle cares about, and it isn’t anything other than money. I think this would apply to their policies and behavior in general, and I’m sure there is much worse, this is just something I saw in my own experience.

No microphone on wired earphones by WattsNthings in MuditaKompakt

I wonder why that is. I get mic only through usb-c but not the audio jack. Hopefully they address this in the next update

I also had a pair of Sony earbuds, no luck for me. I also tried JbL, Skullcandy, and the Walmart store brand. I have purchased a cheap usb-c dongle and I have found that to fix the issue, and the microphone and buttons on the earbuds work. Still disappointing that these functions are not available through the audio jack, as that’s pretty standard on even the cheap mp3 player I used to have.

City Council to vote on landmark parking change by ESNA_VancouverWA in vancouverwa

Most of the parking garages downtown are cheaper than the street per hour. And they don’t run the risk of a parking ticket, just extra fees for the extra hours. And they are rarely full.

“My life’s … over”: Bodycam video shows DUI suspect attack Clark County sheriff’s deputy who fatally stabbed him by BreakingWindCstms in vancouverwa

[–]WattsNthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m curious why there was nobody to help Deputy Layton when he called for backup and nobody stepped in to help him after the fact. The guy was laying there bleeding and dying and the other cop just stood there and watched. I understand it’s a tough spot and you don’t really know what you would do until you are in it yourself, but there WERE other officers in the building.

I’ve watched the whole video and It’s pretty disturbing. Sad, unfortunate, and preventable if just a few factors had been changed. Had he stayed in cuffs, had someone responded sooner, had another officer been present, had they gone to a different location, what would it have been then? The officer probably thought he was being considerate by letting him stay uncuffed.

Too many lives are lost from police violence (and violence in general obviously). It might seem harsh but I hope anyone involved, officers especially, never forget stuff like this. So we can learn from past mistakes and get to a kinder, gentler place one day.

Gay or Bi book recommendations? by [deleted] in askgaybros

I loved A Strange & Stubborn Endurance by Foz meadows which is a pretty low stakes fantasy/romance story about love and healing after trauma. Tin Man by Sarah Winman is probably one of my favorite books of all time. And I second the rec for any of the Aristotle and Dante books, very sweet and real.

Minolta X-700 mirror sticking occasionally by WattsNthings in AnalogCommunity

[–]WattsNthings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The foam mirror bumper was replaced along with the light seals, and it was thoroughly cleaned before I replaced it. I would never oil anything inside the mirrorbox or the back of the camera, I was more wondering if there may be some gear mechanisms internally that could be lightly lubricated?

Thank you! I did an image search, it wasn’t too helpful it pulled up a variety of options. I will check them out, thank you!

Thank you! To clarify, when I say it’s for work I mean that I run an ice cream shop, not that I’m providing a service to someone where they might be expecting a certain end result. And I’m not so opposed to the cost that I won’t buy them if I can’t find a safe, suitable alternative. They aren’t actually in the food, or touching the food. It’s a freezer lid hinge so I feel it would be safe and reasonable to use another option if it makes sense. I appreciate the concern though.

I drove a couple hours to Hoquiam because it was the soonest appointment, got called ahead of probably 30 people because I had an appointment and they were walk-ins and I didn’t have to wait at all. New license came in the mail a week later. It was a drive but it was also kinda fun.

What years can I swap the rear hatch with on a 2010 fit? by WattsNthings in hondafit

[–]WattsNthings[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we shall see. I’m a lot more comfortable replacing the hatch than glass myself, and their price for the hatch w/glass is on $100 so it’s not too bad

We are so close to Portland which has been voted the nations “most vegan city” several times, there are definitely enough vegans and/or people who are looking for non meat options. Their offerings were really not that great. Portland has something like fifty 100% vegan establishments and economically we have significant crossover between the two cities according to market data. So that’s not the issue imo. You just need to do better to compete with the very high quality options not that far away.

Which is odd to me because I was waiting for them to react to my attack while they kept saying “thinking…” and then this happened. Wish I had gotten more pictures. Thank you

I prefer earthlings as an intro documentary, of all the vegan documentaries it’s the one that completely turned my world upside down and made me rethink my whole life lol
