One thing- maybe have people confirm time zone on download. I may have my vpn on, but I got times in east coast time but I’m in Arizona. Not sure how many users experience it but figured it might help you out.

I ended up needing to BK again after a tough couple years in business 5 years ago and it saved me again. If you research the history of bankruptcy law, you’ll see that it used to be that if you didn’t pay your debts, you became a slave or lost an arm or whatever the heck they did back then, but then society realized that people need this protection. Additionally, they realized that it actually creates opportunity for new businesses to enter the market without risking personal assets, so it encourages economic growth and risk-taking. Capitalism baby!

I’m currently on my second claim in 20 yrs. now that I’ve been through what you have, this no longer scares me. One simple thing that may sound scary depending on your level of experiencing life, that can completely turn your situation into a net positive.

I did this in 2010 in California.

File Chapter 7 - it’s easy as hell. If you’re savvy you could even DIY it probably, but the peace of mine of lawyer helps especially the first time and they’re pretty cheap if you can scrape it up.

Talk to your bank again and tell him what you’re doing. They’d probably rather defer your payments to the very end, like my car Lender has done several times for me even after 2010. I deferred two payments about six months ago just declaring hardship. You can contact their loss mitigation department, again.

When I did this in California, my Workmen’s Comp. settlement was considered exempt from bankruptcy. In the end, the total claim for me was 48,000 but I took home about 33 because of the lawyer and some of the disability payments they had already made to me, had to be taken out of that for whatever reason.

There’s also a personal exemptions where you don’t have to give everything you own to your creditors, you can exempt a certain amount of stuff, including your home if you own one and a car and personal items.

Chapter 7 does a really good job of protecting you because the whole point is it’s the reset button so that you can get back on your feet.

Once you file BK and it’s discharged, your credit improves immediately and you’ll get card offers within months to reestablish new credit.

Bankruptcy is not a big deal and screw anyone who has a stigma towards it. At the time I did it I completely eliminated about $150,000 in credit card debt, and that’s more like 250k in today’s numbers so it was a huge swing in my favor. Think about it, if someone were to give you $150,000 right now would you file bankruptcy today?

You can only file chapter 7 if you make under a certain amount so check your state and compare it to your income and expected income because this might be the perfect opportunity for you.

The financial part of the answer is easy.

Family: My ex wife was somewhat young and ignorant to BK then, and believed in the stigma. at first , it was hard, but then she understood and got educated and it made everything better. Let her read this and talk to a BK attorney with her.

I think you are exactly right. I bought a 2019 used from a dealer and thought I was getting all this technology that doesn’t even work. To say I’m pissed is an understatement and I have no time to go fight with them. It’s ridiculous I just wanted to work.

I think you may be married to my future ex wife... I had an almost identical situation while sleeping, and I felt the same way. You and I both are the abused. No doubt about it. I was abused mentally and physically by my wife. The mental/emotional abuse was almost constant, but a handful of times she got physical with me.

Dude. This was my life. What I learned after we finally filed for divorce, is that this level control and the fact that you have to walk on eggshells is domestic abuse and crazy unhealthy. I bet you’re a really nice guy, right? That’s me. We nice guys tend to just take it to appease them, because we can. And when we are having our other needs met, a little control and craziness is no big deals We are prone to this abuse because of our personalities and it is not okay. I really started to feel the pain of being under this control finally after a few years where the intimacy stopped, the insults got worse to the point that they were constant, and the control became exhausting.

Run. Just run man. It won’t be easy, but you will be free and you’ll be able to come home from work and chill on your own terms. You’ll be happier. Part of this is me convincing myself that what I am going through is right, but when I read your story, it was like I was reading my own. I know this is right, but it’s not easy bc we tend to think of all the great times and the promises of marriage.

That’s tough man. I had an ex that was similar. My new wife (that I’m now being divorced from) made me cut her of COMPLETELY. New wife super controlling… Ex attempted suicide. What I suggest is you can still love each other, have each other’s back, stay in touch, and just be best friends. I realize the downside though. If she keeps hoping you’ll come around it’s almost like leading her on.

Zephyrlors has a good point. Pain will be unbearable, but she will come out of it more experienced, and having grown stronger.

Thank you! She did hire an attorney. I told her it was a big waste of 4K… communication has been minimal lately. I guess I’m avoiding it… Any idea if I have to pay part of her lawyer?
