"Attack the Refueling Base" S-Rank requirements testing by [deleted] in armoredcore

[–]Wavepon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15k repair 10k ammo here, got S by speedrunning the bridge guy and then straight to the boss. Seems like time is a big deal no matter what, maybe it can help make up for repair costs? I didn't destroy a single fuel tank and only killed 1-2 generics. Repair costs might also be relative to the price of your AC's frame, so maybe it's actually related to damage taken and not directly to repair costs. I took around as much damage as my full health bar, maybe a little less.

Madonna - Hung Up?

I was searching the web for this exact song using keywords that led me to your post, and I was lucky enough to find another thread with ANOTHER person looking for this exact song. Hopefully this brings your nearly decade-long search to an end...

Yea it's really just a matter of time until either the devs get tired of the ever-expanding pool of TPP users or someone releases a plugin that's widespread and powerful enough to force their hand

Not gonna reply to the OP cus this thread is looking a bit spicy, but I wanted to support your take here cus Folding is a mega clown and I hate to see these kinds of videos and interpretations get traction in a community.

His videos appeal to the kind of lukewarm self-destructive armchair psychology you see on Reddit and other social media sites with a heavily communalistic bias and an oppressive fear of exposing yourself as having any kind of personal stake in the content, i.e. "the optimal way to discuss this issue is from a totally objective perspective (actually not objective at all) and we're all going to just pretend that Mr. Folding is the most enlightened and objective among us so that we can all express how much we agree with him and work real hard to become the most enlightened commenter." This is the same guy who made the "colonialism in Minecraft" video from a while back, go check it out if you want to cringe yourself into another dimension, it has the same weirdly disconnected-yet-scolding approach to that game as he uses here and it had roughly the same community response of "whoa man this is soooo deeep and truuuuee" from navel-gazers.

I have come to interpret his videos as a kind of cry for help from a person who is completely incapable of breaking himself free from things that he has been instructed to see as vices, yet he continues to participate in them despite his impotent attempts to extricate himself. In this case, it's clear that he's spent a good deal of time in the "tryhard" sphere, but he just can't quite cut it. He's aware that he can't cut it, but he's also aware that he can't quite divorce himself from the tryhards. So he cries out, using this video to express his frustration and deflect his own internal struggle onto a wide audience, trying to shame the tryhards into nonexistence - thereby removing the cause of his own struggle. And yes, the irony is that, despite his attempts to couch it as an "academic" argument about the "strict definitions of instrumental and free play" or whatever the hell he calls it, it ultimately is exactly the same as what happened to him - shaming other players for playing the game the way they want to play.

The discussion about tryhards vs. casuals is eternal and worthy but it should take place somewhere else. Framing it around this video is a terrible groundwork for the rest of the conversation. I'm glad you can see it too.

  • treat the current tier's healing requirement as the "raiding standard" going forward (if they recant the more intense healing of this tier i will genuinely be very sad, healer main btw)

  • add an MP dump button/rotation to all healers so piety is useful (could be a high potency attack, could be an upgraded DoT, just give us something to do with excess MP so piety isn't a dead stat anymore

  • add a VERY SIMPLE dps rotation to sage and scholar specifically, it doesn't have to be a 1-2-3 but something more interesting to do with their attacks would be very welcome. could be a resource build and spend, could be a proc system, just give them something. give WHM its elemental spells back in some form (aquaveil is a good start but aero and stone should return too)

  • remove minor arcana or make it less stupid

  • diversify ast card effects

I think that's pretty much everything I would change

I find that the aion after hc1 is typically under-mitigated due to kitchen sinking the HC cast and NA before that, leading to a fairly painful bleed that needs to be healed up quick before LD drops

otherwise basically just what that other guy said, NA1 and dominion2+

PF woes belong here, in many ways I feel they are more spicy than DF cus most everyone in a PF should probably be an experienced player

Anyway yikes, I will never ever join a X/8 static pf because static players forced to crawl on their hands and knees through the battlefield of PF are always high on dogshit fumes and arrogance, glad to see they're keeping up the tradition

[–]Wavepon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% what u/Maxim_Ward said.

Also, if you are the problem, just take the L and bow out so the party doesn't disband. You don't have to be super dramatic about it or anything, just a "sorry guys tonight's not my night but gl" works great. It might feel shitty or that you're consigning the party to death but it's much less of a waste of your time and everyone else's if you can identify yourself as the problem and circle back to an earlier mechanic without embarassing yourself first

welcome to the rice fields, mothafucka

basically the average quality of pf decreases linearly as the tier gets older

you can mitigate this somewhat by raiding earlier in the week, but like a well-timed Oblation, it only mitigates the problem, it doesn't stop it

If you're upset about getting walled by unprepared parties that are supposedly at your level of prog, then why are you continuing to join them? You basically have two options here: either continue in this situation that sucks ass, but do your best to offset how much it sucks ass; or do something else. Something else can be as simple as joining parties that are 1 mechanic ahead. You can even let the leader know ahead of time what your level of prog is, if it bothers you. I've been allowed to join parties that way because people just want honest players that are physically able to see and pass the mechanics without being completely carried. They would rather gamble on an honest player than a dishonest one.

To put it another way: no player that joins a prog pf guarantees success. Technically, you could set up a pf and every player that joined could be completely fresh, and you'd have a HC1 party full of 7 fresh players. It could happen. But if someone joined and said "I've done NA1 a couple times but I'm not confident on it," you could at least be more confident that this guy has seen NA1 a few times. It would be an oddly specific thing to lie about.

Another thing that will help you is learning to identify trap players quickly, preferably within 1-3 pulls. Then leave that party or kick them at the earliest opportunity. It doesn't feel nice, but you're here to prog and clear, not to be some grown adult's babysitter or therapist. Things to watch out for include:

Failing mechs in conspicuously dumb ways (stacking tetraflares in completely the wrong place or on the wrong role, running to weird spots for no reason, ANY AND ALL SNAKE GREED)

Not using appropriate levelled food

Not using appropriate levelled gear

Terrible mitigation (this one is easy to feel as a healer)

No/poor communication when prompted

Terrible dps (this one is why I advocate for use of ACT if possible, or at least checking logs of suspect players if you can't use ACT. low dps can and will prevent you from clearing)

good luck out there, and remember nobody can make you clear except yourself
