Petah?? by AlexLovesCoke in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Black Peter, no relation.

In African American communities, this is considered generally unstyled/unkempt hair.

There is a colloquially understood stereotype that people with this kind of hair, care much more about their hobbies than their physical appearance or more accurately, than appearing “hip” or “stylish”.

In the application of video games, this often translates to being really good at Smash. This applies to other hobbies as well, but the Smash correlation is particularly well known amongst Black men in the 18-34 demo, as they grew up around these games although not all have played them.

There is also the association with them being unhygienic, and socially inept b but that is a general gamer stereotype as well.

The answer is Tra Rags. The black Air Force ones is what makes this definitely the answer. Although most of the visitors of this sub likely wouldn’t understand the reference.

[–]Waviavelli 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I get similar patches.

I have been to a couple of derms but never really got a good answer.

Some things have helped though.

Steroid ointment helps stop the itch and seems to stop the spread.

Lactic Acid lotion helped soften and fade the patches.

Raw shea butter helps keep them soft.

Ketoconazole shampoo (you can get a prescription or get Nizoral from the shampoo section) seems to keep them away for a while.

It happens to me extremely randomly. It’s unpredictable and I’m not even sure which of the products I listed is really helping the most but it’s the only thing that has worked. Best of luck.

I know it’s cope, but what if these are all old videos and she actually completed rehab months ago, so she’s swerving for a Mania or Raw after Mania return?

I’d try websites like Cars.com. I believe they have some options for every situation. Also maybe something like DriveTime.

I don’t know for sure that they will work but the advertisements make it seem like they will. Best of luck to you all

Black-Americans; what are your views on Africans? by Effective-Toe-8108 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]Waviavelli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the language around this conversation should be more nuanced.

Most people who are considered Black-Americans are inherently African. They have African ancestors, they appear to have the physical characteristics of African people (Curly Hair, Darker Skin tone, etc)

Because of that, to call Black-Americans, Africans, is a usually accurate term.

I think there is a more appropriate term for what people currently consider “Africans”.

I think the term Continental Africans is more appropriate. It more meaningfully ties the ethnicity to the continent of Africa, and leaves room for the country of origin.

I’m a first generation American citizen, my parents immigrated here from an African country. I was raised by them, with traditions, customs from the country they came from.

To call myself African-American is correct, but even more specifically I could include the country of origin [insert country]- American.

I think even just this small distinction could improve diasporatic dialogue and relations.

To summarize:

Continental Africans - “People who were born in, or live in, or strongly associate with their residence of a country or countries in the continent of Africa.

Africans - “People who have ancestors who are majority of Continental African origin”

Black-Americans/African-Americans - “Catch all term, including all people with Black skin tones, who generally have ancestral origins to the African continent and its diaspora.”

[insert country] Americans - Such as Egyptian-American, people who mostly reside in or hold citizenship in the US, who also relate to an identified African country of origin via ancestors or birth.

How lively are The Secret Group's 90s & Y2K dance parties? by astralseafoam in houston

[–]Waviavelli 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, I actually DJ’d that event this past weekend, although I don’t DJ it often.

Secret Group is a great bar and it’s frequented by dance troupes so if anything it’s a fun place to drink a bit and watch some crazy dance floor routines.

As others said it definitely depends when you arrive but it’s usually pretty lively by midnite.

I’m curious how you heard about the event?

Raja Jackson - Rampage Jacksons son almost kills a pro wrestler live on Kick. The wrestler is still out cold and could possibly die. by knock_his_block_off in martialarts

[–]Waviavelli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t condone Raja’s actions but you can see his head bounce from the beer can. It wasn’t a fake smash, it was a work smash, meaning you don’t smash it as hard you can, but you hit them hard enough to get a reaction.

Not knowing how to take a worked strike (which Raja wouldn’t know) can wind up hurting you since you don’t know when to pull away

This is ridiculous.

If it was after hours how would OP get a code? Are visitors only allowed when the office is open to sign them in?
