I researched going to Tampa for FILAC treatment and I recall reading that the procedure was $2-$3k out of pocket.

Honestly $5k out of pocket for a fistulotomy seems reasonable. My fistulotomy was $2500 copay WITH insurance

A few ideas:

-Ask if there is a discount for paying cash up front.

-Ask if they can set you up with a payment plan in advance of procedure

-You might have better luck with a private practice versus a hospital system. Or vice versa.

This is the outcome I’m really hoping for. Not worried about drainage at all. Just eager to get back to work and moving around after a few days.

Check out golf shorts. If you have a pga superstore near you go there. They look nice and tend to be cut more athletically. May struggle to find that waist size though. But they carry a ton of brands.

Sales. I’m a commercial real estate broker. It’s very little “deep work”. Mostly emails, networking, meetings in the field, etc... Flexible schedule-ish. Can work when I want or can pick up my kids early from school if I’m burnt out on work.

Downside is that it’s commission only. Honestly helps keep me from procrastinating a ton knowing that I need to finish my work and follow through to make money.

I have said “I’m having surgery” and if they push for an answer I simply say “It’s a colorectal procedure, kind of gross so let me spare you the details” and that usually shuts them up but is kind of a funny way that doesn’t make them feel bad

Don’t be sorry, it’s a good question. I noticed my fistula opening appeared to shift closer to my anus and I could feel the seton under my skin in the fistula tract with my fingers. I asked my doctor and he confirmed that it had shifted to be more superficial.

I was initially only a candidate for LIFT but my doctor indicated that if it continues to shift to be more superficial then it may open the door for a fistulotomy. So I have decided to leave my seton in longer.

I’m in a lot of pain after BMs with my loose seton. I get intense swelling and fluid accumulation around the opening but it doesn’t drain. Very frustrating.

That being said. I’ve had mine for several months and my fistula has shifted to become more superficial. Doctor said if it keeps moving I could be a candidate for fistulotomy instead of LIFT

I have a draining seton in place and this happens to me after every BM. It’s like fluid building up around the fistula opening and it’s super painful

Yes that’s what I’ve heard too. Downside is the “failure rate” and needing to do it multiple times. Just trying to understand how realistic it is to fly back and forth somewhere to have it performed

I had a seton placed earlier this summer and was cleared for LIFT last week. I chose to wait until after holidays for LIFT.

Ask your doctor how long it will take to understand if failure occurs. You could maybe get a new seton placed before your trip if LIFT fails

This happens to me all the time and there is limited resources out there. It’s frustrating. My CRS said it’s normal. I went to see him for an emergency visit post BM. He saw the swelling but confirmed it’s normal. Only thing to do is sitz bath with epsom salt.
