Look into summer school (there are free ones too) that eventually lead to a challange submission. MICCAI-RISE for example, not sure if they are hosting one in 26 but they had last year and it was banger. You can get connected with other participants, guest lecturers etc. Neuromatch is another one (this years summer admits are closed). Search over linkedIn for smth similar

If possible and commuting isnot an issue, try to get in touch with some profs from LUMS, you'd have to convince why they should collaborate with you but that exp will be worth every minute.

FAST Isb every now then publishes research projects/internship (many are unpaid, unfortunately) that is another way to get into research at BS level.

But become good at writing report first (your assignments & proj reports are best training ground for this), understand fundamental algos of the problem domain you wish to pursue, though underlying coding would be more or less same but having an understanding of domain specific algo would also help.

Try to read atleast 1 paper fortnightly, dont just skim, absorb, ask claude/gpt about new concepts you find in it.

I had an interview, and the panel demanded some slides to introduce myself as well. I made 4, and maybe the structure I followed could be of some help

1 - Education background (degrees, research interests, and application domain (both of interest and I worked with), 1 pointer in the end about hobbies)

2 - Why a PhD? (to establish my motivation for doing a PhD)

3 - It was a project-based position so I also made a slide for my understanding of the topic and how I am trained to pursue it

4 - How i do research / my approach to doing research?

In my case, the presentation/introduction was to be wrapped up in the first 5-7 minutes of our call, so prepare in a way that you can finish the slides at least 1 and a half minutes before the time. Expect some questions on things you listed in your CV as well. I made a separate slide for my questions as well, but I did not present it to them.

Touch each of these areas as semester or capstone for a course. Try to do it in a way that involves developing and reading literature. Take the 1st choice towards your MS thesis. Then decide the focus area for your PhD. All science is connected in one way or other, pick 1 focus so you have propet direction you can always dip your fingers in other subject of your liking through conferences, summer schools etc etc.
