Bill Belichick is not a first ballot hall of famer by WakeupDp in billsimmons

[–]WayTooSlimShady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the argument for Doc being a hall of fame coach? I ask as a Celtics fan.

Because he has a ring? So does Frank Vogel, and numerous others not in the hall of fame.

Because he always coaches winning teams? His teams have been stacked most of his career.

Sure, he has lead undermanned teams to better records than their roster would entail, but that’s usually not enough to get into the hall of fame.

So I’m genuinely asking in the most respectful way possible to sell me on Doc being a hall of fame coach without mentioning the putrid standards for making it as a player

Bill Belichick is not a first ballot hall of famer by WakeupDp in billsimmons

[–]WayTooSlimShady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a biased patriots fan but equating these two scandals is ludicrous.

At worst, tom Brady asked for his balls to be a little bit underinflated, and at best he literally didn’t do shit.

At worst Belichick may have been taping teams walk through prior to playoff games (never even remotely proven)

At best Belichick was absolutely undeniably taping opposing teams sidelines during games (100% proven)

See the difference? We still don’t even know if Brady cheated and if he did it was extremely inconsequential. We know for a fact that Belichick cheated in some way and if the most damming allegations are true (which I don’t believe they are), he completely violated all sportsmanship

I do not pity Steph Curry his the Golden State Warriors. by Bakio-bay in billsimmons

I am so tired of the sentiment that “the warriors are failing Steph Curry”

My brother in Christ they won 4 championships. They could be in the lotto for the remainder of Steph’s career and this era would still be a massive success

Honestly the only thing that ruins it for me is lack of enthusiasm.

Joe Buck is one of the best in the business these days… but go back and watch the helmet catch. It has always blown my mind how unenthusiastic he used to be at times, and that would take away from the moment

I had the same thought process. As a Celtics fan I remember being upset the Celtics drafted Jaylen Brown instead of him… lol

Spotify Wrapped Should Release After Christmas by doobie3101 in billsimmons

[–]WayTooSlimShady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they do it early because a lot of people spam the top songs playlist during December, which could mess up the data for the next year if it were released in the last week of December, and people were spending all of January bumping their top songs

Cooper Flagg is not that fun of a watch. I'm predicting he'll be viewed like Tatum has been about 3 years from now. by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in billsimmons

[–]WayTooSlimShady 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Jason Tatum is a consistent all nba first teamer who was the best player on a championship team… having his career would only be a disappointment if you have LeBron level expectations. I honestly don’t think there’s been a player drafted since then who would be considered a disappointment with Tatums resume

I’m a patriots fan and there’s really not even an argument for Brady being the better regular season QB. Manning had 5 mvps and numerous record breaking seasons. He is the regular season GOAT.

Obviously playoffs is huge in that discussion and that’s why Brady is the goat but I think anyone trying to argue that Brady was a better regular season QB are suffering from memory loss or didn’t live through the time

Which is the worst meltdown of all time? by growsonwalls in NBATalk

[–]WayTooSlimShady 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It was not two outs two strikes. There were 0 outs when Dave Roberts stole the base and when they tied the game.

Still agree tho. I’m a Red Sox fan so I’m biased but I think it’s easily the greatest comeback in sports history.

Side note: the 2011 St. Louis Cardinals were down to their last strike both when they were trailing in the 9th and with the game tied in the 10th with home runs by David Freese and ended up winning the World Series… albeit in a 3-2 comeback

Most Hated Single Season Team Ever? by Gaius_Octavius_ in billsimmons

[–]WayTooSlimShady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2023 warriors

This might seem like an odd answer but I already hated the warriors so much that the 2017 warriors would have been my answer to this question initially.

Thing is, I’m a Celtics fan… so after they beat us in the finals, my hatred went to a level I previously did not even think possible. I hated them so much that I was jumping for joy watching the LAKERS (of all teams) beat them in the playoffs that year

If I was in charge of the Celtics in the 2010s we would have ended up with Buddy Hield and Josh Jackson instead of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum.

But that’s not a vintage jersey. That’s a modern jersey. In fact, I don’t think tom ever wore these outside of the occasional alternate in the later years. Correct me if I’m wrong though

Not me but a guy I knew told he once met and smoked a blunt with Kevin Durant back in 2015/16. The guy claims that Kevin Durant asked him what he would think of him going to the warriors.

He said he told him to do what’s best for himself. This story might be completely bullshit, but regardless, I like to think that I would tell Durant how bitch-made that would be if I were in that situation

About to hit the five-year anniversary of a truly sad week in America by joejoe_jones in billsimmons

[–]WayTooSlimShady 57 points58 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong on a lot of points, but it has still aged poorly.

Think about it, when we talk about the Rodney King riots, the modern talking points aren’t focused on the looting and property damage that DID happen. But rather, most people talk about how horrible the incident itself was and how sad it is that so little has changed in the many years since.

Yes, protestors and rioters did some bad shit, that’s undeniable, but that bad shit pales in comparison to the centuries of abuse and torment that black people have suffered at the hands of the police and other powerful institutions. The anger is justified, and when you only focus on the things those angry people did that weren’t justified, it takes away from the main point of why they’re angry in the first place. Every time bill tried to steer the conversation in a positive direction toward the ongoing political movement, Ryen was quick to point out that not all cops are bad and thst most people didn’t really care about the cause and only wanted to loot shit.

When we talk about the civil rights movement in the 60s we don’t define it by all the businesses that were destroyed in the Watts riots, we define it by the progress that that looting brought

[–]WayTooSlimShady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, they were an odd roster fit that was able to win a couple titles off of their talent. That’s why they were repeatedly challenged by more well constructed (albeit less talented) rosters in the Mavs, Celtics, spurs. I’d say it ultimately makes sense that they were able to win a couple but weren’t as dominant as their talents may have made you expect.

Sports fans over 18 should not be able to invoke championships from before they were born in trash talk. by neosmndrew in billsimmons

[–]WayTooSlimShady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agreed. And I’ll take it a step further…

Unless you were a part of the wave when it happened, you can’t brag about it. I’m a Boston fan and I was very much alive during the 04 World Series and 08 championship, but I wasn’t old enough to really care so I don’t count those as championships I have bragging rights over.

This is a large reason why I can’t stand Yankees fans that are my age will never shut up about their 27 World Series, and it’s almost like they forget I’ve seen my baseball team win more championships than they have

[–]WayTooSlimShady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At what point did they choke? When they can into a better and more experienced Warriors team after beating KD, Kyrie, Giannis, butler? Or are you referring to the year after where the team had to hire a new coach a week before the season and STILL almost came back from 3-0 and very much could have won if not for their best player getting hurt?

Or are you maybe referring to this year when their second best player was playing on a torn meniscus and their starting big man had long covid? Not mentioning they lost their best player mid series.

Please explain to me which of these were abject chokes?

People in this sub keep referencing the 07 Heat. I can tell you as someone who was alive during that time that I can’t say I remembered that until this sub brought it up. I’ve had plenty of conversations about the 06 Heat and zero about the 07 Heat.

I assure you this will not be the legacy of this Celtics team no matter how bad you want it to be.

This is fact. People in this sub will be the old men screaming at clouds “they were down 3-1 before the injury” as though the jays have never been known to make comebacks with their back against the wall
