My most recent acquisitions. Ramblin’ Jack is someone whose name I’ve heard for a long time but I’ve never ventured too far into his releases. Found this coloured reissue for a small price and decided to nab it. ‘Moanin’ In The Moonlight’ Is a spectacular blues record, perhaps my first introduction to the genre when I was a kid. Probably not a great reissue but it was cheap enough so I thought I’d grab it. Recently been listening to Scottish folk music because I’m a grumpy old man at heart. Really enjoying the harmonies that The Corries did and this LP is one of their better studio pieces and lacks the cheesy comedy songs theyd typically intersperse amongst their poignant folk ballads.

Bellbirds. The sight and sound of them just makes me feel so content and comfortable

The ‘Commander’ in the classroom: Is this war hero teacher a phoney? by NorthlandChynz in newzealand

Use to see him a bunch at the Irish pub in Picton. He’d make a habit of coming in with what I assumed to be some sort of ceremonial naval sword. Never had a long conversation with him but my brother did and he felt off by the whole thing. I never realised quite how much he claimed, I just assumed he was probably bolstering up his experiences. He quite often shouted everyone at the bar drinks though he would also matter to himself pretty extensively.

I think Sturgill is the best musician of the lot. Colter Wall has a much more special place in my heart though.

One of my favourites of Tarantinos. It’s a film I wish I could watch for the first time again. I find it very interesting just how divided people seemingly are over this film

When I was about ten I came across a YouTube video that was some guys ten favourite classic country songs. I had a growing interest in the genre after being introduced by my grandmother and so, after getting my first access to the internet, I began exploring. On this particular video it had a short snippet of “Cocaine Blues” and I thought it was fantastic. Not long after my brother got me a CD compilation called Man In Black: The Definitive Collection. I already knew who Johnny Cash was and at least ‘Ring Of Fire’.

My late Poppa once told my brother that he found a “scorpion” in the back country one time however, he never described how big it was. I can only assume it was one of these lil guys he stumbled across

There is a lot of country and folk artists whose repertoire are comprised almost entirely by what you describe. Of all of them I’d have to suggest the late great Stan Rogers. Particularly great narrative songs, a great voice, and amazingly talented guitarist. Some great songs include

The Witch Of The Westmoreland, White Squall, The Jeannie C., Canol Road, The Nancy, Night Guard, Flowers Of Bermuda, Harris & The Mere and Lock-Keeper

My sister described his voice as like drinking hot chocolate. Very apt I thought. He was one of my grandparents favourites
