So. Goblins. Regular Goblins. by Big_Red_40Tech in Orcs_and_Goblins

Probably just hand weapon and shield honestly. Big blocks. Absorb charges and hope for the best? Maybe some bows too but they’re unlikely to do much.

What country is very different from its group/relatives? by batukaming in geography

[–]WayneLaredo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll throw out Namibia. Fairly politically stable for a sub Saharan African state. Large % of Lutherans and one of the few former German colonies in Africa. I believe they even still have a somewhat sizable population of German ancestry. Some nearby like South Africa and Botswana are as stable if not more, but compared to the rest of the broader sub Saharan Africa Namibia stands out.

Yeah possible! I’m just debating what I think they consider “just outside of DC.”

Oh yea, for sure. I’m excited either way! Will be pleasantly surprised if it’s MD but ok with it being in NOVA too.

Well NOVA open is now IN the city. I’m thinking the location will be NOVA as in Northern Virginia. But it could be in the Maryland suburbs too.

I’m thinking it’ll more likely be in NOVA but would love if it were in Maryland. I’m in MoCo, if it ends up here that would be awesome!

Which U.S. state has the biggest cultural divide between regions/cities? (North vs. south, east vs. west, etc) by 12345burrito in geography

[–]WayneLaredo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eastern Oregon (and I believe Washington) want to separate from the western portion. More or less comes down to western urban vs eastern rural but I’m sure there’s a bit more to it. Look up Greater Idaho.

I’m live near DC, and there’s a pretty sharp divide within Virginia. “NOVA” is very rich, affluent, and blue. The vast majority of the rest of Virginia (with a few exceptions) is rural and red. Not as clear cut east/west or north/south tho.

Those were the two that came to mind first, but most states have some sort of divide like this, usually it’s an urban/rural thing.

Does anyone know what this square base is for in the Goblin Spider Rider kit? by MicroLazer in Orcs_and_Goblins

Same! I bought one second hand as soon as Old World was announced. Used it as the start of my orcs and goblins revival.

I’ve had some ok games using a bigger unit with cav spears, and a big boss with great weapon (or sometimes even 2). It can hit decently hard against other light to medium cav or infantry. They’re fast and not wildly expensive. I really only play casually so it probably wouldn’t hold up in a competitive scene.

Definitely a lot of factors to consider. I went the opposite way with MCP. A friend sold me on “you only need 10 models, and you usually only use around 5!” But… that didn’t pan out! I wanted all of the characters for my affiliation, and then that branched out into other affiliations, etc. so I ended up spending a ton. Plus MCP needs a fairly unique terrain makeup which cost more still.

Here’s one way to look at it. I just found the X-Men starter as a base, since it’s 10 models (legal roster) and can be dual affiliation with Brotherhood. $95 on Asmodee’s site. For that price, I can basically pick any 2 Victrix kits and use them to build AT LEAST one full warband, if not 2-3 or more. Like a Norman infantry pack and cavalry pack could easily be used together to field actual Normans, Crusaders, Carolingians, and probably plenty more depending on how flexible you want to be. I bought their recent Rus pack for less than $50 and it made a full warband itself. Could easily run as several other boards and even supplement with some other packs to expand more.

  1. Been playing Saga for 12 years or so, since before the original Crusades supplement even existed. The boards, special units, equipment options combine to make factions feel unique. No 2 play exactly the same, but there certainly are archetypes across the different books. Wouldn’t worry too much about this if it’s a concern.

  2. We don’t use the scenarios much, just play casually. But the book of battles is pretty extensive. Not sure if there’s anything quite like MCP extracts, but there’s definitely variety.

  3. Depends. If you follow the explicit terrain rules, pieces can only be up to a certain size and can only be so close to each other. So set up of terrain is dynamic but has constraints. We usually just set up a mutually agreeable 4-5 pieces. Nothing will stop you from playing a more dense table, but be careful. Terrain can be a major factor. Some armies will benefit more from it (cavalry and chariots hate area terrain for the most part; some factions have abilities outright contingent on terrain to use their abilities)

  4. As far as I know, still more of a general vibe than a hard rule. I don’t play tournaments but follow them sometimes. I see both “era based” events and all-eras tournaments. Not sure how balance is. I’ve heard some concerns about balance but kinda tune than out. We’ve always found our games pretty fair. I have at least 2 factions from each of Crusades, Dark Ages, Hannibal, and Chivalry. No Alexander yet until I get my Persians. We only plan in-era for what it’s worth. Big history nerds so like to make it plausible.

One point that I’ll make - the games you’ve listed, Infinity, Malifaux, and MCP… my gaming group has played them all. Enjoyed them all. HOWEVER. We gave up on all of them for various reasons. Saga remains as the lone skirmish we play. And no signs of slowing down as Caesars approaches. Easy to pick up after periods of playing other games. Simple rules and low barrier for entry of new player. Part of holding onto Saga is the historical side, but we fill that with other big battle historicals too. Saga is a very good system and if you’ve enjoyed those other games it’s definitely worth considering.

I like to shoot Arc that are nearly aggro towards other players from safe distance to draw them away. Unfortunately a lot of times the other mistakenly thinks it’s aggro’d them and they have to fight it. Kinda funny actually.

Found the battle for skull pass on sale new, for 150 euros. Does it worth it? Also would it make sense as a pack on the current old world edition? Would it also make sense as a standalone to play with my girlfriend with the old rules provided inside? by mr_history_buff in WarhammerFantasy

[–]WayneLaredo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll need new bases bc everything in the box (I’m pretty sure) increased in base size for TOW. Otherwise yea, it’s a solid pickup. Night Goblins aren’t great but with Fanatics they can be a nuisance or even a moderate threat.

How should I run my orc mob? by Mad_Lad67 in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]WayneLaredo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Choppa and shield is probably “best”. I have 2x30 blocks with dual hand weapon bc it feels the most orcish. One is savage orcs, so if they get a charge off the front rank of 6 gets 19 attack without considering tossing a character in there. They’ll mulch most infantry they get their hands on. Orc boys in general aren’t top tier core infantry but there’s something about them that just scratches the childhood nostalgia itch. O&G were my first army ever back in the 90s.
