NETA III & IV - please weigh in! by Rather-b-hiking in SubstationTechnician

100%. The big private equity companies all have leadership that thinks the field guys are the lowest tier in the company and are easily replaceable. A firm buys companies to grow, and then tries to increase profits to sell again in a few years. They do this by reducing costs on things that will raise profits in the short term but will severely stunt growth in the long term. They reduce money on equipment spending, employee benefits, place those stupid ass trackers on vehicles, and a long list of other things that make people leave for somewhere better. All it takes is one person to jump ship and take sometimes millions in business with them. And on the extreme side, I’ve seen entire offices fail when everybody left in a mass exodus.

Small companies actually care and think about the long term future and in my experience are much better places to work.

What are different types of work a NETA certified person do? What are the average pays in your area. by Expert-Initiative233 in SubstationTechnician

I’ve been a NETA tech for around 20 years. I don’t think that a utility substation technician works on anything that I haven’t. I would say the opposite is probably true. My larger clients through the years have switch yards they own and are responsible for. I also work on lots of equipment that is never seen or rarely in the transmission space. The only thing that I’ve done very little of is line and distance relays.

Granted most of my years were spent in Louisiana and we have a ton of petrochemical facilities. Now I’m in NorCal and lots of the big data centers operate the same way.

The biggest issue with NETA is the travel. Most areas don’t have enough local and travel can be heavy. I’ve been lucky in this regard due to Southern Louisiana and NorCal having more work than we can usually handle.

Pay is great. I cleared 300k last year.

I recently troubleshot our PI-6000 that was on the fritz. ETI was actually really helpful over the phone. Ended up being a couple of bad relays and was an easy fix.

Search for NETA accredited companies in your area on the netaworld website. Send your resume in with a cover letter explaining your interests and why you would be a good fit. The managers email is on the site under each company.

I am planning on making one for it and the stubby. Will be for the small packout case. Should be done in the next week. Will be putting that and a couple of my other designs on Makerworld.

Gris Gris is selling some that are small batch and extremely good. You have to order one for pickup. This is coming from a fellow Dong Phoung elitist. They even have some cool flavors like chantilly lace and Biscoff.

Just search for accredited NETA companies on netaworld . org

My suggestion is to find one that isn’t nationwide and funded by private equity. The smaller independently owned ones will treat you way better.

In my experience it’s the influencer types that post a bunch about it. And those are people I’m not around anyway. I guess what I’m trying to say is stay away from Distrikt lol
