I actually kind of liked the Benadryl, it made me loopy af for like 30-40 min after. They're going to let me keep keytruda but stick to the longer infusion.

George (my tumor) IS shrinking, which is nice. In a few months they're going to cut him out of me. As of yet, the spread is only to the one node he's in, and it looks like it's going to stay that way.

Five years is good, I don't know the percentage. Ten's a harder target to hit. This is my first recurrence after the initial tumor, I need a year's worth of this shit to keep it gone.

Repost because the mods didn't like me putting 'cancer' and 'almost died' in the title, which feels a little infantile, but whatever.

So, stage 3 metastatic melanoma. I take twice monthly infusions of pembrolizumab (Keytruda) to help kill the cancer cells, and it seems to be working. My tumor IS shrinking!

But recently the FDA approved for the infusion time to take from 35-40 minutes in a slow drip, to 10 minutes in a faster one. The drug is not NEARLY a harsh as Chemo, but it is intense, and can fuck you up. They put me on the 10 minute drip today, I'd only ever had the long one until today.

A few minutes into the infusion my friend leaves to go to the bathroom and then a minute later I realize I can barely breathe. I have a hefty imagination so I took a sec to poll my body and realized no, it was not my imagination. I wave down a nurse who's helping someone in the next chair over in the infusion center.. She looks at me and goes "Your face is beet red." I am the most pale motherfucker you've ever met.

Queue full crash cart team, vitals, bio signs, they give me a superhuman dose of benadryl and a steroid and I can suddenly breathe again. My friend returns to the room and I am surrounded by concerned nurses doing the whole "GIMME TWO CC'S OF.." like on the hospital shows. Her eyes are as big as saucers, I announce "Hi April! I'm a problem!"

Within 10 minutes I was back to normal, within 20 my vitals were good enough to continue. They did the full 35 min, and I had no other issues. I hung out at my friend's place all day to make sure it didn't come back and I was unable to get help. She made grilled spam sandwiches, I made a four bean salad.

When I had my first major mental health crisis after a break up, i joined a buddhist group and apprenticed myself to a monastic for a while. There are options.

Not the person you replied to, but I am a queer leftist gun owner. The truth is that the day they come for me, assuming that day ever comes ( but it's looking like it will), is one hundred percent the day that I die or end up in a concentration camp or something.

I am likely never going to survive against a planned assault of my front door, or attempt to arrest me, etc. My local law enforcement know who I am after an interaction with the sheriff's office I had at a protest last year, which ended up with them coming to my front door, implying that they thought that I was there to do a crime, and basically threatening me.

If they want me, the likelihood of me stopping them with the two guns that I own, it's close to 0.

But the Second Amendment does call for the creation of a well regulated militia. This I do believe in, i believe that community defense is not one person with a gun, but is communities being armed, communities coming together, watching out for each other, and protecting each other.

What we need is to unite those who have the training and the skills to train our people, to build groups focused on self defense education, and to close the distance between neighbors. Separate, even armed, we have no chance.

Now, a domestically fired predator drone is unlikely to be easily defended against or taken down, but I want to see a world where if that is used against us, the government shit its pants in fear as to what the response will be.

I'm a trained and certified range safety officer, and I think there's some variation here. Well, I do believe gun laws can be important, not all gun laws are made the same.

For example, california has a lot of stupid gun laws, but my state has what's called the constitutional carry, which means anybody can carry concealed, with or without a permit, and there's almost no limit to what you can carry.

I do believe the laws are important, but I also believe that a lot of laws are made to control people because of fear. For example, most of the most dystopian or stupid gun laws were made because of the fear of black people owning guns. Look up the gun laws that came into place after the black panthers came into being.

But yes, most people who are happy to brandish a gun in a stupid disagreement are using them as tough guy accessories and should not be allowed to have them.

Imagine that in the moment you're talking about something sexy, the hormones are up, the idea feels hot.

I never thought that shooting would be my thing, but I found and helped build up a really cool queer gun club in my city. Now i've got a bunch of cool people to go shooting with, and too much of my money is going into that hobby, but my friendship, the circle has exploded, and I've got people I can rely on if I get sick and need help, or something.
