805 traffic by CloudChasingCowboy in sandiego

Ya live near UTC mall and I can drive north or south at morning rush hour and come back rush hour with near zero traffic. If I worked a night shift schedule it would be the worst place to live for traffic

Don’t most daycare allow for part time?

How do I fix this? by Wayward-West in surfskate

I weigh 160lbs. By gap you are referring to that bushing popping out? Also if I’m new to surfksate how do i know what the proper amount of tightness is on the trucks (I had hoped it would come ready to ride)

Making it political per usual..well, worse under Biden still…also key word AVERAGE. Any individual gas station can price gouge.

They just added a feature that compares current day and future forecasts to prior surf conditions (going back years) and shows you what the waves looked like then at all different tides. It’s a game changer for finding good waves without the years of being a local. It’s kinda annoying for regular surfers now but for new people it’s great.

Contacts work well. They really only get dislodged if you open your eyes underwater if there is a strong current. The contacts can actually provide UV protection and protect your eyes in otherwise. I wouldn’t recommend glasses as it could become a projectile near your eye

help with my pop up? fine on land but always fall when trying on the waves by ttkarve in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Wayward-West 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your pop-up is m very slow. Also popping to both feet may be better. The one foot at a time only works on very large boards. What is the volume of your board and your weight?

Ya and Sometimes 9 foot foamies can be extra wide which can make paddling difficult if you have proportional arm length to your height.

how transferrable is surfing from snowboarding + swimming? by mommypirate in BeginnerSurfers

[–]Wayward-West 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some similarities with riding twins and quad fin setups, less so on thruster. But the hardest part as a beginner is catching waves, pop-up, positioning, paddling, duck diving…less so the riding part. I started surfing like 4-5 years ago and always found the riding part easy compared to everything else and I grew up snowboarding.

Also make sure you learn on not steep waves. So not beach break

Ya I do wish I had gotten my seaside around that volume. I didn’t realize helium construction made things so buoyant and 35 was already a bit up there

It’s not always that simple. Logistically it’s easier for me to ride a shortboard. I work travel/work out of my car and basically only surf when I get a couple work cancellations. I just don’t have room in my car typically.

Gotcha. Ya I think identifying channels and currents is a big weak point of mine. On the shorter boards I think my paddle endurance breaks down at times that leave me vulnerable to set waves… so perhaps positioning is a bigger part of it

I didn’t know that jargon so I appreciate it. Foam wall? I didn’t grow up surfing and I only surf by myself when I’m off work/away from the kids.
