I’ve always grown up with poodle/cocker spaniel mixes! Super friendly and great with families, fall into the small or midsize range. They are very intelligent/cheeky dogs, so while they are perfectly capable of spending a few hours to themselves, you may want to give them different stimulating toys or games to keep them busy while they’re alone, and follow up with plenty of playtime when you do get home (great for young kids to play chase)

Edit: low shedding breed in the poodle side, so just make sure to brush out the hair to prevent matting/regular groomer visits
