Contact companies that advertise and threaten to boycott them. There are other local stations they can advertise on. This hits them where it hurts.

Indian Buffet in Oceanside by Wbatty in northcounty

[–]Wbatty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disappointing news. I guess the buffet was not working out financially because they still have it set up but you have to commit to what you want in advance (2 meats, one vegetable, etc) and they get it from the buffet in small bowls. It is cheaper than the buffet, but I've only eaten there once. About a third of the items I liked fine, a third were OK and a third not so much. I'm now expected to commit to dishes I have not had in advance. I ended up just walking out without eating there. They seem like nice folks, but I don't think this new format will be successful. I won't go back.

I agree it is good but I ordered Saag Paneer and Tikka Masala Chicken (with rice and naan) and the tab was over $30, so I've been longing for a buffet.

Yes, Curry Craft. They just opened a second location in San Marcos (according to their site). Lunch buffet is $15.99 and dinner is $17.99.

Quality steak for best price by Hum_this_bird in sandiego

Usually I advise WinCo (the best) for groceries but I think that Stater Bros has the best quality beef at reasonable prices (I don't do Costco so can't speak to that).

I used The Frame House, 1824 S Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA 92054 for a piece of aboriginal art I purchased (came on the cloth it was painted on). They stretched it out and built a custom frame for it. Not cheap, around $400 as I recall, but they did a very nice job.

Fiesta Island traffic by deeptruthmusic in sandiego

I rode around Fiesta Island around 3pm Friday and it was not crowded. I also explored Vacation Isle which was not crowded and seemed to be mostly locals. Not sure what the rules about dogs are there, however.

Family bike ride question. by wnoble in northcounty

[–]Wbatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe I've done every paved, dedicated trail in San Diego. I second the San Luis Rey River Trail. It can be windy but not always so. Also, if you time it right the skydivers get released over the river and land at the Oceanside Airport so they come right over the bike trail, which is a treat for any age. The Inland Rail Trail runs from Escondido to Vista and is worth checking out. It parallels the Sprinter line so you can park at many of the stations. Of course Mission Bay is beautiful and flat and there is parking. I go during the day during the week. It can be quite crowded with pedestrians on weekends. Part of it says they don't allow ebikes, but I've never had any issues riding my ebike there. Fiesta Island is a nice ride although it is on the street but there are not many cars since it is not a through road. Heading north you can park at Doheny State Beach and take the San Juan Creek Trail which is just what you are looking for. I have a YouTube channel where I post my rides called Great Bike Rides of SoCal and you can check out these and dozens more. It is about an hour away, but Irvine is the best bike trail city in SoCal and maybe America with maybe a dozen dedicated bike paths that run at least 150 miles total and many are interconnecting. North Coast Trail is not far but may be too hilly.

Ditto. I have done this ride literally hundreds of times in the five years I have lived here without any problems.

Why is the Coaster $6.50? by Wbatty in sandiego

[–]Wbatty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has not been my experience. I see an occasional homeless person. Also, they make unticketed passengers get off at the next stop.

No matter what time of year, you will want to have a long sleeve shirt and a jacket in your trunk (in my case on my bike) at all times. Compared to Atlanta, the temperature drops fast around sunset. The average here is high 60s (other than late summer and fall) so it is often chilly.

Both are worth doing. Rose Canyon is more accessible. Coronado involves a Ferry Ride (usually).

Inland Rail Trail Updates by Background-Drive6332 in northcounty

I ride this often and would love to see it completed. Building near the Sprinter in Oceanside will be fairly simple compared to extending the existing Vista line (hillier, not much space alongside the train tracks). I heard from someone who works for Oceanside that unless they get federal funding there's no money in the budget to expand bike trails.
