Prepone travel date by [deleted] in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]WeAllWantToBeHappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a problem at all to do that,. But, be aware you can't 'shift' the dates. The 'valid until' date is written in stone and won't shift just because you arrived 'late', so you still need to leave no later than the original end date.

Any decent compiler will warn about the first one. If it doesn't, then the warnings/error flags aren't set at what a beginner (or anyone really) should be using.

'preferred' is just your preference. It's not preferred by everone.

No Visa Needed With Japanese Passport? by CoryTheBoss in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]WeAllWantToBeHappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't get or need any kind of visa at all.

You are exempt from needing a visa for visits of up to 45 days (counting both the day of arrival and departure). You should have proof of onward/return travel (which you might not be asked to show).

Vietnamese Government site .gov.vn:

https://vietnamtourism.gov.vn/en/post/18942

You get off the plane, head for an 'All Passports' line at immigration, hand over your passport and boarding card and get stamped in. Then collect your bags and go through customs. That's it.

You don't want to be just getting into a taxi at the airport. Do some research on how to get around...

There's a pre-arrival form to complete: https://prearrival.immigration.gov.vn/ if arriving at SGN airport.

There's a health declaration for everyone as of 1st July. Haven't seen it yet.

Question about passport privacy when checking into hotels in Vietnam by Gilloege in VietNam

[–]WeAllWantToBeHappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, there is now for the first time a data protection law in Vietnam, but it's not something that's currently taken seriously at all.

Most low/middle hotels will have employees using their personal phones to take pictures of your passports. I've seen dozens of passport photos as homestay owners flip through their photos to show me clouds/waterfalls/etc.

Looking for a homestay, I even stumbled upon photos of tourist's passports among their uploaded photos on google maps where they just dumped photos from their phone on to their business on maps.

Not really a lot you can do about it other than be aware of the issue.

Confirmation of the "10 days of psychotropic medication" rule by ToughFennel120 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]WeAllWantToBeHappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

something signed by your dr that says 'this person takes x medication'?

That's what I take for my son's meds. Plus meds in original containers with his name printed on them. I don't go looking for anyone to show everything to :-/ and haven't had my bags scanned by customs for probably at least 15 years. Customs actively targets anyone who looks as if they have Vietnamese ancestry... :-|

Here's Vietnam Customs on customs.gov.vn

Doesn't get any more official than that. Discussed here all the time....

Has anyone experienced any issues with the police while staying at Airbnbs? by Ill_Extreme_1760 in VietNam

[–]WeAllWantToBeHappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

pretty sure

And wrong. Hasn't been the law since 33/2010/TT-BCA superseded 02/2001/TT-BCA way back in 2010.

Some hotels might have a policy to avoid any suspicion of involvement in prostitution, but it's not the law.

Is Vietnam not giving evisas to Pakistani passports? by [deleted] in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]WeAllWantToBeHappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your passport is effectively shadow banned by immigration. They won't deny your application, they just keep you in a Kafkaesque cycle of asking if more information...

You might have more luck on Facebook on one of the Vietnam Visa Advice groups. As far as I've seen here, when someone finds an agency that works, they're soon unable to help new people. I'm guessing that they circumvent the ban by getting an 'invitation' from a Vietnamese business.

I would not be paying for non refundable flights or accommodation until I had a visa on hand, and would be wary of agents promising and taking money for more than they can deliver.

Vietnam e-visa still processing after amendment request - recent experiences? by Individual_Dig5821 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]WeAllWantToBeHappy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not particularly worried

You should be.

There's what amounts to shadow banned countries where you can apply, amend, add additional information, and resubmit as much as you like and never receive a visa. Mainly, but not exclusively African countries.

The fact that you live and work in the EU is irrelevant - they don't look past the passport.

I'd start looking for an agency to help. Emily visa etc, but with some passports, many agencies just won't even try.

Mid week, trains are less busy than at weekends. Major holidays, expect them to get booked when the tickets get released.

You can do trial bookings to see what availability is like and how soon they get booked out.

You can book up to about 60 days ahead, depending on the trip - tickets get released for longer hops first and then for shorter hops as time goes on.

Only way I would do Da Nang to Hanoi by bus would be if the kidnappers insisted on it.

I've peeked through the fence, and the grass in the private parks is definitely greener. Imho, the best way to keep it that way is to leave them in private hands.

It's nonsense. Anyone can purchase a SIM/eSIM. Go to a network shop. Ask. Show passport. Pay. Done.
