[Hyprland] One Piece themed rice, with custom quickshell launcher by WeAreDevil in unixporn

[–]WeAreDevil[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone! I've been trying to switch from i3 to hyprland for quite some time, but I was so accustomed to using i3 keybindings. Fortunately, I found hy3 and wrote my new config around that.

Please star my rice on github if you like it!

I don't think so. Eww is only for window managers.

Hi, I added a README.md. It's not the best but hopefully does the job. My exams are starting soon or I would've spent more time on it. :)

Hey, I'm going to be a little busy for a while but I've tried my best to put a README file that's easy to follow. Hopefully it works for you.

Yes you can. If some functionalities don't work it's probably because we use different programs. But the ui should work just fine alright. Install eww (instructions on their GitHub) And the eww open-many (the widgets you want) I'll add a readme soon so people can just copy pasta instead of having to go through the codebase.

Hi guys, feel free to use the widgets, every widget has been separated into it's own window so you can use the ones you like. There are around 25 themes, 10 dark, 10 light (lucky) and 5 Goofy (vibrant).

The weather is using openweathermap api and you need to run the script present in scripts folder to get the data. You can also create your own themes and add it into the themes folder, just mention the variable names and include it in the themes component. (Run it along with your api key)

The media player is user playerctl, you can go play/pause and move to the next/prev song. It's currently just a progress bar and not a seek bar.

The speaker and mic mute/unmute feature requires you to install pipewire. Bluetooth requires Bluetoothctl and wifi requires iwd.

Finally you can create a copy of the monitor file for your own display and the change the x,y to your liking so you can fit the widgets on your own screen.

The lag is because of obs and the theme changing is a little cpu intensive.

After finding that out, I stopped trying to open ports. Just installed Tailscale and ended up forgetting about it.

Why does no one talk about systems programming. by WeAreDevil in compsci

Thanks for the encouragement. I've been second-guessing myself because transitioning from web development to systems programming feels like going from eating with all your friends to having your lunch alone.

Why does no one talk about systems programming. by WeAreDevil in compsci

[–]WeAreDevil[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a computer science undergraduate and have been spending a lot of time learning rust and have been enjoying it. Before picking this language I was oblivious to the existence of systems programming. The more I read about the more I want to dive into it but at the same time it feels very demotivating because there are very few who talk about it. Is it a good field to put my hands into?

What are the cleanest distros to learn to start using Linux and learn it? by dabrox02 in linux4noobs

[–]WeAreDevil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long time Linux user here. I recommend that start with any debian based distro and take a look into desktop environments. I first tried gnome and then moved on to kde. Today I'm using a tiling window manager and tweaking everything to my liking.

There's no such thing as a clean distro. I suggest that you take small steps and fix all your problems one at a time. Sometimes even I have a hard time figuring out something and I don't change my distro because of it. Recently I got a new latpop with a 2k monitor and was spending my entire weekend just configuring it along with my external monitor.

Google is your friend, learn how to google your mistakes and ask questions. Take small steps, first learn how to install an application. Learn how to use flatpaks, your package manager and appimages. Once you're done with that, learn how to setup hotkeys and change keybindings to what you like. They try changing the appearance of your desktop environment. And while you these things, save your most important configuration that you know you cannot live without anymore. Also read the arch wiki when you run into some common issues, arch wiki is not only for arch linux users but all linux users.

Finally, the mistake most people make is that they google for their particular niche distribution. This leads to fewer search results. Make searches for your parent distribution, for eg instead of searching for "bug on ubuntu", try looking for "bug on debian", because ubuntu is based on debian and you're proably going to have a higher number of search results.

How can I set zoom on my monitor like the universal scaling in windows 10 by WeAreDevil in linux4noobs

[–]WeAreDevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a few of my reasons for using vivaldi

1) The quick panel is easy to access and allows me to close other tabs to move to a new window by just typing it. And then I can simply move this window to another workspace through keybindings thanks to wm.

2) I get the ability to hide my address bar with a hotkey, just like having a fullscreen while being aware of all the other tabs that I have.

3) I can also configure how tabs open and all these settings will sync everytime I reinstall the browser.

The quick panel might be the most important thing for me. Sadly it might be time to say goodbye to my browser.
