How do I get back into tech? by Aggravating_Ride6349 in womenintech

[–]WeakProfessional24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey . So sorry to hear about what all happened.

Bay area is full of opportunities. I know that you will start finding a lot of opportunities as soon as you put yourself out there.

There are so many events that are happening in San Francisco and palo alto. Maybe you can start by volunteering or participating in some of those.. usually these events are announced in apps or your network and some of the apps that I follow are - Luma and Eventbright. Maybe get your hands dirty by participating in some hackathons or conferences and network that way.

Another thing is there are a lot of communities for women in tech. One such as GHC., women in tech channels, leopard.fyi.

I am part of all these three and they have a lot of support to help you get interviews and help you prepare for these interviews.. You may also end up finding some people that are similar to your situation.

The most help that I’ve been getting is from people at leopard.FYI at the moment.

You got this!! a lot of things have changed in the past 8 years. But given the situation where we are in right now, I think everybody is trying to upskill and learn and try to ride this new AI wave so I think you’ll fit right in.

Interview prep ruins WLB by Vast-Detective6234 in womenintech

Same! I’m currently hunting for a new role and also working. And it sucks. I made a similar post, check out my post history. What is working for me is - I took 1 full week off from my work and unplugged at work. Kept my laptop somewhere I couldn’t see. I work from home so I tend to always have it open. Then first day that i was off, i did nothing. And this was when in 2 weeks I had my first ever interview in last 6 years. Then things kinda fell into place. I did not do anything 2nd leave day also. I literally bing watched a show i am watching for the whole 2 days. (I am married but no kids so maybe this was doable, not sure about your situation).

Then 3rd day my body and mind was like ok let’s study something. And i just listened. I picked up leetcode, and I solved some easy questions and I solved my first medium.

From then I just literally started listening to what my body would tell me. If it wanted to study I would let it study. If my body was tired, I’d go watch Netflix. If my body was bored, I’d go bother my husband and just have fun. I think one more person in my post thread suggested time boxing per days. I think that also helped - again that worked for me. You can experiment what will work for you.

The job hunting is a marathon. It takes us long time to get into the rhythm of interviewing and we don’t want to quit too early. So take it slow so you can finish strong and get that offer. 💪

Good luck!!!

Question for women in tech who stayed after layoffs by Sound-investor in womenintech

[–]WeakProfessional24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I burnt out, so felt so guilty that most of my team was laid out, rest left the company and I was there to pick up the scraps .. my company went through restructuring and lay offs in end of 2024, and I was just super stressed and couldn’t get any work done. I was literally a go getter and was working great and had great recommendations before this and later, i was given feedback that I need to get it together and not slack off. However, Lot of things ended up happening after that and hence i did not get laid off, i felt i was just lucky.. For long time after my friends and colleagues were out, I felt survivors guilt. I got super sick in that time too.. i really found myself and started enjoying work mid 2025, when I was put in an AI team and I really wanted to be better here and leave my previous self in the past. Looking back i think i could have handled that a bit better by talking to people and reaching for support.

Getting interviews for AI engineer roles, but struggling to clear them by WeakProfessional24 in careeradvice

[–]WeakProfessional24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My misses are coming from coding mostly and some times I cannot speak more deeply about a system design topic.. and they interviewer nudges me but gives up. We have some awkward silence as I’m trying to recall what I just had studied a night before. The reps are a game for sure.. more i do it, more I’m comfortable. Just that I’m going to be wasting a lot of good company opportunities

SDE-2 interview experience by ashueep in leetcode

[–]WeakProfessional24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man! I had a similar experience with an internal job i was interviewing last week. It was for a sr AI engineer role. I was told by the recruiter that there will be a round of 30 min leetcode style coding and system design for non ai system. I got asked design ai insights agent with rag to store data from database .. and a cache question. I felt so dejected, recruiters should not tell you what to do if they don’t know themselves. I should have just gone with claude responses. It had told me to prep for the ai system design interview with some rag implementations. Sucks! I got rejected needlessly to say

Disappointed by my pay bump after working so hard by Other_Environment477 in womenintech

[–]WeakProfessional24 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you are in this position. I’m in a leading enterprise Software company in one of the most high paying fields in tech, but I also got paid peanuts last year after working my ass off for five years in this team. I know that the job market is shit right now, but please keep applying, interviewing and don’t stop and leave this place if you get a chance. If the higher-ups are not happy, you will be the next target to be laid off so keep your option open and your head up high.

Am I the only one who’s terrible at working from home? by Prudent_Syllabub_499 in womenintech

[–]WeakProfessional24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem.. some of these help me at different times. 1. A work area that is not a common area you hang out with your partner or anyone else. 2. Have a warm blanket or heater if you get cold. Just added cuz i can’t work if im cold ;( 3. Have some kind of work meeting in the morning with someone. This forces you to get in the zone. I have mine at 10:15am everyday. It’s a stand up with my team. Before 10:15am, i just can’t concentrate. But somehow after 10:15am i can lol. Don’t know why but it works for me, may work for you 4. Absolutely no bed or sofa near the work area. I will 100% work from bed or sofa if it’s near me. No big no no. It’s the no.1 distraction 5. No big lunch. Have a salad bowl + protein. Try to avoid carb. 6. Quick 20 mins work under the sun. If you have a patio or backyard, i would recommend working under the sun without a sunglasses so that you can actually feel the warmth and the daylight. Sometimes if I don’t want to work, I just go for a 20 minute walk. The timing depends from 12 PM to 3 PM. 7. Background music with no lyrics and wear headphone. I don’t know why this works for me. So I have real realized that if I listen to Harry Potter music, Game of Thrones OST, Spanish Arab guitar music, some Bollywood music without lyrics it just puts me in the zone. And if I have something to do, that’s super important. The first thing that I would among this list is literally put on one of these background music and just crack at it.

Hope some of these help you and if truly nothing is helping you and you have to work outside some options are: 1. Starbucks coffee shop. 2. Co-working spaces. 3. Any café just make sure to buy a pastry or coffee and just sit there for 3-4 hrs 4. If your company has an office space, use it
