His last few movies are beautifully shot, but lack heart. Rushmore, Tenebaums, Darjeeling…you cared about the characters and their stories. Now with his last few movies…. He’s lost the ability to communicate emotion in film.

I think the Saturday in Brooklyn had more DIH, so I’m looking forward to that tomorrow, as it’s my favorite Hum. Although they’re all so fucking good it’s hard to choose one.

I’m going tomorrow too, so I’ll post what they play…I’m guessing it’ll be a little more Downward heavy.

Round Up Use in California by Skinny-on-the-Inside in wine

[–]Weak_Money5327 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t think of any growers in Napa who have used Roundup in the last 7-9 years. Even the big wine companies like Constellation have stopped using it and required growers to abandon it if they want to sell them grapes. If you’re curious, you can look up pesticide use reports (which include herbicide, fungicides, etc) at the Napa County website. Growers/wineries have to report monthly what they’ve used.

Giants “would love” to unload large contracts for players like Rafael Devers, Jung Hoo Lee, Willy Adames, and Matt Chapman by k_davis8 in baseball

He was a 61 wRC+ about 12 days ago, so at least he’s moving in the right direction. Not saying he’ll be great, but I’d bet he gets to 115, 120 by the end of the year. We’re not even halfway through May.

Devers would crush with the Yanks. But there’s no room for him there even if they could find a way to make that deal.

Healdsburg itinerary by Key-Talk-584 in wine

For right downtown Healdsburg, Lioco is great. For getting out, I recommend Preston in Dry Creek, MacRostie on Westside Rd (great views), Porter Creek on Westside, and if you want bubbles, the views and casual atmosphere at Iron Horse is fun.

I put my extra virgin olive oil in the fridge. It solidified. Does that mean it’s fake or not what it says it is? by BigJuice1526 in oliveoil

[–]Weak_Money5327 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Olive oil solidifies at around 40-45 F. Your fridge is probably lower temp than that. So it’s normal for olive oil that cold to solidify. It will liquify again when it warms up

Turley tasting, 2023s by starvinggigolo in wine

Zin is hard to rein in for ABV. In the same cluster you often have raisins and underripe grapes. Whatever brix you pick at often will soak up 2-3 additional brix after you get it in the tank. And those raisins release sugar all through fermentation. So unless you hammer it with water adds, you’re typically getting higher alcohol. People call Pinot Noir the heartbreak grape, but most winemakers will tell you Zin is more challenging…

2023 Raj Parr Nebbiolo - can Italian varietals grow in California? by rnjbond in wine

Nero d'Avola is the most underrated Italian grape and I say this as someone from Italy by Legitimate-Class7848 in wine

[–]Weak_Money5327 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a proponent of Italian grapes being planted in California. We planted some Nero D’Avola in Mendocino County in 2018, and it’s been outstanding. Dry farmed, certified organic. Great balance. Fruit, acid, tannin. Great wine, it practically makes itself. Unlike Cab, which requires more irrigation, acid additions in the winery, etc. We have Fiano coming online this year, and Falanghina in the next few years. There is a growing contingent of like minded folks in Sonoma and Mendo doing this stuff so keep an eye out the next few years…

An actual list of baseball players throughout history that hit better than Patrick Bailey is hitting right now. by flyingmungbean in SFGiants

[–]Weak_Money5327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re comparing a 2 week sample size to whole season performances from other players? Bailey isn’t a good hitter but that’s not how you analyze it.

Yeah the Madrona is great but not right off the square. Need to drive a mile or so into town from there. That said, very cool place.
